The Southwest Washington Juried Exhibition celebrates regional artists and recognizes excellence with Merit and Purchase Awards. Invitation to submit was extended to artists working in all media and residing in Clark, Cowlitz, Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, Pierce, Skamania, Thurston, and Wahkiakum counties. The annual exhibition draws a healthy response from the community. This year forty-four works were selected from among one hundred sixty-four entries. Of those works included in the exhibition, five were selected for purchase and inclusion in the College’s permanent art collection to be displayed around campus, and seven others were given Merit Awards. The Gallery welcomed Asia Tail as juror for this 2018 exhibition. Ms. Tail is an artist, curator and arts administrator based in Tacoma. Her unique and creative approach to evaluating an eclectic body of work produced an exhibition that is elemental, magical, and transformative. Our gratitude goes out to Ms. Tail. The exhibition was made possible through a variety of on and off campus contributors. Many thanks to all who have contributed time, talent, and resources. Finally, this catalog was produced through the sponsorship of Camille Kettel. Her generosity has allowed every submitting artist to receive a copy, each copy serving as a powerful reminder of the region’s creative spirit.
