Theodore Gray | Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019 | 7:30 p.m.
Writer, chemist, and educator Theodore Gray is the co-founder of Wolfram Research, Inc, makers of Mathematica, and author of The Elements, an internationally best-selling book on the beauty of the periodic table, translated into 25 languages. He's known for his work in engaging the scientific community and the public together, and for creating the Wooden Periodic Table Table, a four-legged physical representation of the periodic table.
OLMECA | Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019 | 7:30 p.m.
Described as “a 21st century Shaman” by Vice Magazine, Olmeca is a Hip-Hop Artist, producer, and activist known for creating bilingual Hip-Hop songs that uniquely blend musical genres and cultural sensitivity. A talented performing artist, he’s toured across Canada, Europe, and South America, earning praise and appeal across cultures and demographics. He currently teaches at the University of Nevada and is actively involved in intersectional social commentary and community efforts.

Dolen Perkins-Valdez | Monday, Feb. 3, 2020 | 7:30 p.m.
Author and educator Dolen Perkins-Valdez is best known for her best-selling debut novel Wench, a story set in the 1850s that follows the lives of four enslaved black mistresses from the South who vacation with their masters each summer at an Ohio resort in the free North. A complicated novel that explores the moral complexities of slavery, Wench was awarded the First Novelist Award by the Black Caucus of the American Library in 2011.

Modern Warrior Live (MWL) | Friday, April 10, 2020 | 7:30 p.m.
The story and sound of a combat veteran's journey, Modern Warrior Live is a musical drama about one veteran's experience when returning to civilian life and his recovery from trauma. Narrated by co-creator Staff Sergeant Jaymes Poling, who spent three years in Afghanistan, the production shares an emotional journey rife with the challenges of military service, the psychological weight of war, the struggles of transitioning back to civilian life, and the potential for positive growth after returning home.
Percival Place at Ben Moore's Percival Place at Ben Moore's is one of SPSCC's newest and most exciting ventures. By bringing fine and performing arts, live music and film, and culinary and beverage arts downtown, we are preserving the history and heritage of the space and growing education and workforce development to downtown Olympia.

What Lies Beneath: Photographs by Melinda Hurst Frye and Sculptures by Cyrra Robinson | Oct. 7 – Nov. 1, 2019
Melinda Hurst Frye is a Seattle-based artist whose work and approach aim to create curious representations of the ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest through capturing images using both flatbed scanners and cameras in order to achieve a specific viewpoint, both technically and conceptually. Cyrra Robinson is an Olympia-based artist whose bronze and stone sculptures explore the spaces between the fantasy and reality of our natural world to discover and highlight where they most intersect.

Stay: New work by Eun-Kyung Suh | Nov. 11 – Dec. 13, 2019
Eun-Kyung Suh is a Full Professor of 3D art at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. Eun-Kyung Suh will present new work examining the cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic dissimilarities experienced by refugees and asylum seekers during the course of migration; from their departure to their destination. Suh’s sculptures symbolize barriers between the insiders and outsiders, using domestic materials suffused with meanings and consequences of migration or forced displacement.

2020 Fine Art Postcard Exhibition | Jan. 6 – Feb. 7, 2020
The Fine Art Postcard Exhibition is an annual event that brings the local creative community together under one theme. The 2020 theme is “POWER TOOLS”. Postcard sized original artworks, created by artists of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, will be sold through silent auction. Proceeds from this fundraiser benefit The Gallery. Native American Art Exhibition | Feb. 17 – March 20, 2020
A themed exhibition, shaped and selected by Native guest curators, which engages viewers and the community celebrating the arts and culture of our Native community members. The exhibition will highlight work by Native artists, adult and youth from local and regional tribes, and Native artists from other locations who now live in the area..

Collaboration Installation | May 11 – May 15, 2020
SPSCC art students, led by a visiting artist, will participate in a multi-session workshop that culminates in an exhibition of the work in The Gallery. Students will experience all aspects of a collaborative project, including planning, production, installation, and presentation. Closing reception: Friday, May 15 (4:30 – 6:30 P.M.)

15th Annual SPSCC Student Art Exhibition | May 25– June 19, 2020
South Puget Sound Community College’s art faculty selects outstanding work created by students in studio art classes during the 2019-20 year. Works include ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking, digital photography, mixed-media, 2D and 3D design exercises, and sculpture. A continuous slide show of student work is also included in the exhibition. Opening reception: Friday, May 29 (4:30 - 6:30 P.M.)

Southwest Washington Juried Exhibition | July 6 – Aug. 21, 2020
Artists residing in Clark, Cowlitz, Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, Pierce, Skamania, Thurston, and Wahkiakum counties are invited to submit work in any media for review by a guest juror and possible inclusion in the exhibition. SPSCC Symphony Orchestra Now entering its sixth season, the SPSCC Symphony Orchestra is an auditioned performing group open to students from both SPSCC and The Evergreen State College, as well as adult community members. The orchestra is conducted by SPSCC music professor Cameron May and has developed a reputation for world-class musical performances. Performances are held at the end of every quarter in the beautiful and acoustically rewarding Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts.

SPSCC Jazz Band The SPSCC Jazz Band is comprised of exceptional local talent from SPSCC, The Evergreen State College, and community members. The group comes together at the end of each quarter to perform various ensemble arrangements to feature bebop, Latin jazz, and funk jazz standards.
