Welcome to Southfield Times, a place where you can find all the information you need. Our new Year 5s have now taken over Southfield’s Newspaper Club and are thrilled to bring you the first edition for the 2025/26 school year.

THE HARVEST FESTIVAL by Siena, Arlo and Alfie
This year we have had a harvest festival. It includes bringing tins and cans to school to donate, making the traditional bread and some might sing a harvest song. We donate all our food to the families that are not as lucky as us. We usually bring pasta , rice , or anything in a can or tin . This year we have collected loads of food to donate. Our school has been doing the harvest since 1906 so it has been around our school for a long time .You might have a different way of celebrating but they all count ! This year you might have seen the full moon for a few days and that was the harvest moon that you saw . I wonder what things you celebrate in autumn ? Come to Y5 Vivaldi and tell me : Siena !
Music is key to the creative life of the school. Music and Performing Arts lessons happen weekly with our brand new professional music teacher Ms Bonini. She helps children find their inner voice and lessons are planted in theory with a strong emphasis on performance. This week, we caught up with Ms Bonini to find out more about Southfield’s music curriculum and our new music teacher! Q: Why did you want to teach at Southfield? A:l wanted to teach music at southfield because the school has such a strong reputation for valuing the arts. It made me genuinely happy to see that every class is named after a composerit shows that music and creativity are woven into the culture of the school.I’ve also been really impressed by the high standard of productions here,wich reflects both the school’s commitment to the arts and the students’ enthusiasm. Q: Who is your favourite musician? A: My favourite musician is Stephen Sondheim. He was a composer and lyricist who wrote musicals that tell amazing stories. I really admire how his songs explore emotions and ideas in a clever and creative way. His work shows how music can make people think, feel, and connect with each other. Q: What is your favourite show? A: My favourite shows include West Side Story, for which Sondheim wrote the lyrics, and Into the Woods. I love how both of them tell such powerful stories through music, and how clever and expressive the songs are.
