LEADERS WOMEN

As a Chamber, we honor the visionaries and risk-takers.

This March, we are especially proud to support and celebrate the womenowned businesses of Freeborn County.

albertlea.org

This section celebrates the women who don’t just participate in business — they elevate it.

Did You Know?

40% of all U.S. businesses are women-owned. Women-owned businesses employ more than 9 million people nationwide.

• Women of color represent the fastest-growing segment of entrepreneurs in the country.

• Since 2019, women have started businesses at a higher rate than men.

• One in five women-owned businesses has been operating for 10 years or more — proof that staying power matters.

• Women are launching businesses in every industry — including construction, finance, agriculture, and manufacturing — fields traditionally dominated by men.

• More than half of women business owners started their companies to gain flexibility and control over their future.

• Communities with strong small business ownership tend to have stronger local economies and higher civic engagement.

In a place like Freeborn County, leadership isn’t distant. It’s personal. It’s the familiar face behind the counter, the business owner you see at school concerts, the woman who sponsors the fundraiser and then stays to help clean up. Here, business and community aren’t separate lanes, they run side by side.

Women leading businesses in Freeborn County understand that every decision has a ripple effect. The customer today might be a neighbor tomorrow. The employee might be the daughter of a friend. The vendor might also sit next to you at a chamber meeting.

In small towns, reputation matters and relationships matter more.

Small Town Women in Business Lead With:

Relationship First

Trust is built face to face, conversation to conversation. Loyalty grows from consistency and care.

Long-Term Vision

They’re not building for a quick win, they’re building something that lasts. Something their families and community can be proud of.

Community Investment

From sponsoring youth athletics and local events to volunteering on boards and committees, their leadership extends well beyond their storefronts.

Resilience

Rural businesses face unique challenges like workforce shortages, economic shifts, supply issues and seasonal swings. Women in business adapt, pivot, innovate, and keep going.

Collaboration Over Competition

In Freeborn County, success multiplies when businesses support one another. Women leaders often partner, promote, and uplift other local entrepreneurs which strengthens the entire local economy.

In larger cities, business can feel transactional. When women lead here, they don’t just manage companies. They’re shaping the future of our neighborhoods, schools, and local economy one decision at a time.
