This is a notice to inform the public that the City of Burlington Police Department is at risk of closing its dispatch center. Due to the damage caused by the recent flood, the city is looking at alternative means to restore service to the community. The city is contemplating switching to consolidated dispatch with Racine County Communications Center (RCC), located on Washington Ave in Sturtevant, Wis. RCC would then be answering all calls, dispatching police/fire/rescue as well as answering non-emergency phone calls.

Should this switch occur the City of Burlington Police Department would no longer be staffed 24/7. Access to the police department would likely be reduced to a Monday through Friday business day operation, or, closed entirely. Access to counter services such as paying fines, picking up incident reports and monitored custody exchanges would be greatly limited. These are only a few examples. There are many other services that would be effected as well. There is a price tag attached to whichever decision is made. It is ultimately the citizens who will be paying the price, literally and figuratively. The citizens should be aware of how this happened, why this is happening, the benefits, disadvantages, and the costs involved. We strongly urge you to contact the Mayor, City Administrator, and your Alderman, as well as attend council meetings. Ask questions and share your thoughts whether you are for or against keeping your dispatch center. They need to know how you feel in order to make the best decision for the City of Burlington. The next council meeting is Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at the City of Burlington Police Department courtroom. Thank you for your time and consideration on this important matter.

The Department of Natural Resources- Bong Wildlife Program intends to apply for a permit from the Wisconsin DNR to treat up to 145 acres of water in wetland areas on the Tichigan Wildlife Area (WA) (Tichigan Creek & Tichigan Lake), Honey Creek WA, New Munster WA (Palmer Creek & Bassett Creek), Bong Recreation Area (Peterson Creek & Hoosier Creek Canal), Dover WA, Kenosha County KD Park (Palmer Creek), and John & Laurie Johnson parcel (Spring Brook)with aquatic herbicides to control cattails and Phragmites. The proposed treatment would occur between August 16th and September 29th. The Department of Natural Resources- Bong Wildlife Program will conduct a public informational meeting on the proposed treatment if five or more individuals, organizations, special units of government, or local units of government request one. The meeting would give interested parties a chance to learn more about the proposed treatment from the permit applicant. The Department is not required to, but may change the proposed treatment based on information provided by citizens attending the meeting. Any request for a public meeting on the proposed treatment must be made within five (5) days after this notice is published.
