This position performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance and operation of streets, storm sewers, urban forest, parks, recreation buildings, grounds, and public areas. The candidate should have a Class B or higher/Air Brakes commercial driver’s license. The candidate must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. and be at least 18 years of age. The candidate must be knowledgeable of safety requirements, know the basic operation of off-road equipment, dump trucks, snow plows, mowers, chain saws, brush chippers, weed trimmers, pumps and street maintenance equipment. The candidate should also be able to perform semi-skilled interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry and other trade work. The City is looking for a candidate that is a self-starter, able to work well with others, able to work alone with minimal supervision and can maintain a professional attitude when conversing with the public. In addition, applicants must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb up and down ladders and work in adverse weather conditions. The position also requires the applicant to be on call 24/7 on a rotational basis. The City of Burlington maintains a competitive benefits package. The starting pay rate is $20.01 per hour.
