The East Troy School Board was finally able to agree about the open board seat and lack of officers at a special meeting June 4. The meeting came about when board members found out late last week the pending referendum bond to build the new elementary school and make improvements at other

district facilities has to be signed by the School Board president. The board has been operating as a four-member board without officers since last month because the board members couldn’t agree on whom to appoint to the open seat that was left when the term Brian Wexler was filling out expired on the third Tuesday in April. Why do retailers price their products at 99 cents instead of a dollar, or $99 instead of $100? As any consumer probably already knows, this pricing strategy is designed to make a product seem less costly. In the real estate market, research shows that the “just below” pricing strategy may also bring a higher price. According to recent new research published in the Journal of Housing Research, a “just below” pricing strategy yields a selling price that is about 2.5 to 3 percent higher than a rounded price listing strategy does. On the other hand, researchers found that rounded price homes usually spend a shorter time on the market and have a lower discount relative to the listing price. The study mentioned above concluded that sellers’ ability to set higher listing prices for properties using a “just below” pricing strategy outweighs the lower discount and shorter time on the market associated with similar rounded price strategy homes. The proper pricing of a home can make the difference between a timely sale and a property that languishes needlessly on the market.
