After years of working together, leaders from Absolutely Waterford and the Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce announced in 2020 that the two groups would officially join forces to launch Explore Waterford, a new organization that combines business-focused benefits as well as community-based initiatives. Main Street standards Absolutely Waterford was unveiled in 2011 when the state formally recognized the organization as a Main Street Wisconsin community. Many volunteer hours and donations went into the designation, which centers on a thriving village core. With the recent merge, leaders from both organizations pledged to maintain the Main Street Four-Point Approach model which includes: Economic development to enhance and strengthen downtown businesses; Promotions to increase market image and develop events to draw residents and visitors downtown; Design to develop appreciation for the Heritage District’s unique cultural and physical assets and implement beautification projects; and

The Waterford Graded School District offers a comprehensive K-8 curriculum that is aligned with the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards, and adheres to a student-first philosophy. Waterford is recognized statewide for its outstanding public education system. The district is characterized by above average student performance, teachers equipped with a variety of instructional strategies and excellent facilities. Students also benefit from a low student-to-teacher ratio and a district philosophy that is committed to meeting the needs of all students. The following three districts are separate from the Waterford Graded School District and governed by their own school boards. All three have K-8 programs that feed into the Waterford Union High School District.
North Cape School District is a K-8 elementary school located west of I94 on highway K and is a feeder school to Waterford Union High School. North Cape School has outstanding teachers, support staff, parents and community members who care deeply about our students. North Cape School focuses on a rich curriculum experience that challenges our students to think critically and problem solve in preparation for our global economy. Every fourth- through eighth-grade student has an iPad to use throughout all teaching and learning activities and 4K, 5K-3rd grade have several shared iPad devices. Waterford Union High School has been educating students since 1905. Today, the school has an enrollment of more than 1,200 students who enjoy learning in a sunny, open facility. A broad-based curriculum with more than 150 courses is in place to provide all types of educational opportunities for every student, from advance placement courses to vocational education. Recent 10th-grade standard test and ACT test scores place Waterford students above the state and national average. The graduation rate is 97 percent, with about 82 percent of graduates pursuing some type of education after high school.

WATERFORD I ROOTED BY THE RIVER he center of commerce and community has been at the heart of the village since its earliest settlement. From Native Americans, to early white settlers and today’s residents and visitors, the banks of the rushing Fox River have been and continue to be a place for gathering. Waterford’s development began in 1836, after two men from Waterford, New York, got bitten by “Western Fever,” and ventured into Wisconsin territory from the Indian trail, leading them to a place along what had been known as the Pishtaka River. Samuel Chapman and his father-in-law Levi Barnes were searching for waterpower and clearing of timber led to favorable land

SEE WHAT’S AVAILABLE AT THE LIBRARY The Waterford Public Library is located on the Fox River at 101 N. River St. in downtown Waterford. Library cards are available free of charge to any are resident with current identification and proof of address. Parents must be present to register their minor children (younger than 18). The Waterford library is a member of the SHARE consortium, which means a Waterford library card will work at all 29 public libraries in Racine, Rock, Kenosha and Walworth counties. The Waterford library offers a wide variety of materials in many formats, including: adult and juvenile books, large-print books, books on CD and MP3, electronic books, Overdrive, RB Digital, Gale Course, Lynda.com, music CDs, videos, DVDs, video games, tablets, hotspots, literacy kits, STEAM learning kits, musical instruments, magazines and newspapers. An item that isn’t on the shelf at the Waterford library can be easily obtained by placing a hold for the item in the online catalog. The item will be delivered to Waterford via the daily delivery system with the other SHARE libraries or through interlibrary loan with other library systems. Equipment available onsite for public use include: many types of projectors, a screen, photocopier, typewriter, digital microfilm/
media reader, multimedia projector, DVD players and 14 Internet stations. A large meeting room, conference room and two study rooms are available for groups to use during the library’s open hours. Reservations are recommended for use of private rooms. Escorted tours of the collection and facility can be arranged with the staff upon request with two week’s notice. Services and programs The Waterford Public Library offers these services and programs to area residents:
Join the Friends The Friends of the Waterford Public Library is a group of volunteers that supports the development of library services in the community through various projects, activities and with the proceeds from the sale of items in the Friends gift shop. • Homebound delivery is available to any Village of Waterford resident who is unable to visit the library because of a temporary or permanent physical disability; • The adult book club meets at 5:30 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month in the Waterford Community Room; • Adult and family programs are offered periodically; • Little Bookworm classes for children age 5 and younger, with caregiver present, are scheduled regularly each month; • Preschool workshops for children age 5 and younger are scheduled regularly each month and focus on pre-reading and premath skills through exploration; • The summer reading program, for children of all ages, is designed to encourage enthusiasm for books and development for children’s reading skills through activities such as reading incentives, story times, Lakeshores Library Systems Story Wagon, theme related programs, crafts and a grand finale; • The Teen Advisory Board meets monthly and offers teens a chance to volunteer, and suggest programs and materials for the library; • Visit the library’s website at www.waterford.lib.wi.us to view the online resources and like the library on Facebook to keep up to date with the daily activities and programs.
