T
he Village of Twin Lakes is located in the Southeastern corner of Wisconsin in Kenosha County. Currently, Twin Lakes has a fulltime population of 6,050 and another one-third more of part time residents. Twin Lakes offers that small town charm less than 70 miles from Chicago, Milwaukee and Kenosha. Its location offers quick, easy access to two international airports and interstate transportation. In Twin Lakes we have a saying: “close to everything, but away from it all”. With nearly 1,000 acres of water the Twin Lakes – Mary and Elizabeth – make the area a popular destination offering swimming, boating, and fishing. Five major and several smaller parks offer beaches, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts, skateboarding, walking trails, baseball diamonds, soccer/football field and sledding hills. The Twin Lake Chamber building at 349 E. Main St., downtown Twin Lakes, is located in the red railroad depot building next to the Caboose. The railroad design pays homage to the history of the area. Large blocks of ice were harvested from the lakes and shipped via railroad to Chicago during the summer, before refrigeration became commonplace. The Chamber building was ready for use in June of 1998.The arrival, in June of 1999, of the Chicago Northwestern Caboose TL-699 was arranged for by resident Bill Porps. The Twin Lakes Area Chamber & Business Association proudly hosts several community events each year. April 17 brings the Reverse Raffle with a chance to win a generous grand prize. Proceeds benefit the fireworks, education, and other community projects. June 29 at 11 a.m., the Liberty Parade steps off. Plans are in the works to move the parade start to St. John’s Church parking lot and end at Lance Park as usual. Check with the Chamber as
the date gets closer. Fireworks will be at dusk at Lance Park on June 29. There will be food and beverages at Lance Park from 4 p.m. until the fireworks start. The Aquanuts will have the regular Saturday performance on June 29, time TBD. Get out on the links July 31 for the Annual Chamber Golf Outing. Enjoy a day of golf, have lunch, compete for prizes and 2019’s bragging rights. Then end the evening with a great dinner. As the summer comes to a close, a

he Twin Lakes Area Chamber and Business Association, Inc. was created in 1991 when two organizations, the Twin Lakes Businessmen’s Association, established 1954 and the Twin Lakes Chamber of Commerce, established 1971 were merged to better serve the community. In 1997, the Association expanded its services to surrounding communities not already covered by a Chamber or like organization. One of the goals of the Chamber is getting people together in a face-to-face setting to build business relationships and make new business contacts. Twin Lakes Area Chamber & Business Association, Inc. is a proud supporter of the Twin Lakes Chamber Foundation, Inc. dedicated to providing merit based

A Year of Refinement!
In
2018, we saw growth and change at the Twin Lakes Chamber. We have grown our membership to more than 75 members, plus our valued Lifetime Chamber members. The Chamber, through meetings and events, has helped the local businesses who support both the community and us. We gladly welcome you to come to our monthly membership meetings, listen to our speakers, find out about events in the area and get to meet your local business owners and residents. We held our regular schedule of events, and as a board, looked at what worked and what didn’t. We started making some changes to help the Chamber, the Local Businesses, and ultimately our community. Our 4th of July celebration, Libertyfest was found to be in need of some changes. So, in 2019, we will be changing up
things to improve the event! Don’t worry, our regular fireworks display, and the parade celebrating our nation’s freedom, the Saturday before the Fourth of July will still be happening! We partnered with Cornfest, a new local festival, and had a great first year in 2018, and look forward to working with them in 2019, and for years to come. Oktoberfest was a great success the first year, even with the snow falling! We had a great turn out and many businesses and organizations participated. So, we at the Chamber would like to thank YOU, the businesses, the residents, and visitors to the Twin Lakes area, for your input, your patronage at our events and your support in the past year and look forward to the same in the years to come! Looking Back at the History of Twin Lakes In 1833, after the Native American Indians were moved to reservations, settlers Jonathan Imeson and his wife Mary Wray staked a claim in an area later known as English Prairie on the southern tip of Lake Elizabeth. The couple would have eight children. Their son Robert was the first child born in the county and their twin daughters Mary and Elizabeth were the first twins born on the Prairie. The lakes, formerly called Nippersink Lakes, were named after the twin girls and soon the area was referred to as Twin Lakes. The railroad was a key factor in the development of Twin Lakes. The biggest customers of the railroad were the icehouses and farmers. Haegles’ icehouse was started on Lake Elizabeth in the late 1850s and several more soon followed. Ice was harvested in large blocks and stored for use in the summer. It was then sent by rails to Chicago to keep food and beverages cool during the hot summer months before refrigeration became commonplace. The railroad allowed farmers to ship food and milk to the city. The railroad brought people, mail, and supplies to Twin Lakes. By
the 1880s a depot was erected just a short distance from Lake Mary near the center of the village. Estates, resorts, taverns and The Twin Lakes Ballroom, the largest ballroom in Wisconsin, made Twin Lakes a vacation destination by the turn of the century. The Twin Lakes Ballroom, later called the Wonder Bar, was special because most of the Big Bands played there. Glen Miller, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Dorothy Lamour and the Andrew Sisters all performed in the Ballroom. Lawrence Welk and his new wife Fern lived in a little room in the Twin Lakes Ballroom for the summer of 1931 when they came to Twin Lakes with a new band. By 1937, Twin Lakes was incorporated as a village, formed its own government
Mary Wray, a native of England, was born June 15, 1816. She came to America in 1833 and resided in what was to become known as “English Prairie.” In 1837 she was married to Jonathan Imeson, also an early settler on the prairie. Their son Robert was the firstborn son in the county. There were eight children in all, including the first set of twins born on the prairie. The girls were baptized Mary and Elizabeth. Both lakes were named after these girls.

Restaurants, gas stations and stores were established as the village began to grow. “Fever Lake,” a scary movie starring Mario Lopez, Corey Haim and Bo Hopkins was filmed in Twin Lakes in 1996. Today the village has grown to a population of more than 6,000 full-time and about one-third more part-time residents.

• Reverse Raffle Time to start thinking about warm summer days ahead. From the end of January until April 17, the Twin Lakes Area Chamber & Business Association will be selling raffle tickets to help fund the annual fireworks, parade, community events and projects. Contact the Chamber to purchase your ticket for a chance to win up to $8,000. The drawing is held at the Twin Lakes Country Club after a complimentary buffet dinner.
• Liberty Parade
and Fireworks Celebrate our country’s Independence Saturday, June 29, in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin. The Annual Parade steps off at 11 a.m. Saturday. Plans are underway to move the start of the parade to St. John the Evangelist Church parking lot and ending at Lance Park. This route provides more places for spectators to park and view the parade. Beginning at 4 p.m., as people are gathering to prepare for the fireworks, we will have food, beverages until the fireworks at dusk. A DJ will entertain the crowd until the Aquanuts Water Ski Show begins their evening performance.

• Trees on Parade The first weekend in December finds Santa at St. John’s Community Center surrounded by creatively decorated trees, a Gingerbread House Contest and lots of vendors to start off your Holiday Shopping. • Public Parks
Lance Park down town Twin Lakes on Lance Drive offers basketball hoops, beach and Boat Launch. There is a fishing pier at Lance Park that is handicap accessible at the bottom of a downhill ramp. Lance Park also has a boat launch available for a fee. Boat launches are also available on Lake Elizabeth at Lake Elizabeth Marina and on Musial Road. Legion Park, also located on Legion Drive, contains a basketball court, baseball diamonds, skateboard park and playground equipment. Millennium Park, on Stateline Road and Richmond Park Drive is Twin Lakes newest park containing a soccer/ football field, volleyball court, pavilion, walking trails, playground equipment and a sledding hill. Mueller Park located off Sunset Court and Hunt Avenue offers playground equipment, basketball and sledding. West Side Park located off Spiegelhoff Road contains a baseball diamond, basketball court, tennis courts, playground equipment and a place for sledding.
•Public Beaches The Public Beach on Lake Mary is located at Lance Park downtown

•Activities Looking for activities? Twin Lakes Country Club, 1230 Legion Drive, is the place for golfers. If you are looking for winter activities, check out Wilmot Mountain, 11931 Fox River Rd., Wilmot, Wisconsin, for skiing, tubing and snow boarding. Walkers can check out the paved Ice House Trail starting at 110 S. Lake Ave. and ending in Bassett.
•Attractions The Aquanut Water Show is held every Wednesday and Saturday evening, Memorial Day thru Labor Day (except during competitions) at 6 p.m. in Lance Park, Twin Lakes. Be enthralled by an award winning waterski show featuring four high pyramids, barefoot skiing, ballet lines and more. Free family entertainment. Enjoy Movies Under the Stars at Lance Park. Movies will be held every other Friday between Labor Day and Memorial Day at the Lance Park Amphitheater starting at dusk. All the movies are G or PG rated. Bring a chair and blanket or drive up in your boat to watch a free movie. The 2019 dates
are yet to be determined. Check the Village of Twin Lakes website for the dates and movie titles. 5th Annual Shamrock N Run, 5K Family Fun Run/Walk will be at Twin Lakes Country Club on March 16th. Race starts at 10 a.m. with an after party from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. All proceeds benefit Randall Consolidated School PTC Programming and Teacher Wish Lists. Twin Lakes is well known as the location of Country Thunder Music Festival. The four-day (July 18 to 21) music festival on the border of the village welcomes up to 100,000 in attendance. Country Thunder brings the hottest acts and fresh new faces, this year featuring Jake Owen, Tim McGraw, Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, Trace Adkins and more. The 99th Annual Kenosha County Fair is held at 30820 111th St., Wilmot, Wisconsin, next to Wilmot Union High School. Mark your calendar for Aug. 14 to 18 for that old fashion family fun with crafts, animals, food, contests and entertainment. The 170th Annual Walworth County Fair will be held Aug. 28 to Sept. 2 at 411 E. Court St. in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, featuring games, carnival rides, food, animals, crafts and entertainment.

The department goals are to respect and preserve life and property. The Twin Lakes Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1929 with a staff of more than 20 volunteers and was incorporated in 1941. The Twin Lakes Rescue Squad was formed in 1949. The all-volunteer department has 57 members with at least 50 of those active in one capacity or another. The department uses and maintains eight vehicles. The current Fire Chief is Stan Clause Jr. Now licensed as EMTs or Advanced EMTs, the department responds to an average of 160 fire calls per year and 800 EMS calls per year, covering Twin Lakes and a portion of Randall and Wheatland. The department participates in National Night Out in August and Shop with a Hero in December. Members also
visit Lakewood and Randall School to do Fire Prevention programs during Fire Prevention month in October. The first Saturday in December the department hosts Santa at the Fire Station from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Fire Department transports Santa by fire truck from the Village Tree Lighting in the Park to the Trees on Parade event. Established in 1937, The Twin Lakes Police Department polices the Village 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Currently, there are 13 full-time police officers, eight part-time police officers,

five full-time dispatchers, four part-time dispatchers and eight seasonal water patrol officers. The police department utilizes marked squad cars, motorcycles, and bicycles to patrol the village. In 2017, the Twin Lakes Police Department developed its first ever K-9 police officer program. Funds for the purchase of a K-9, equipment, and training were raised 100 percent through community donations. October 2017, the police department welcomed K-9 Rex to the police force. Officer Joe Patla is the departments K-9 handler. Annually, the police department hosts National Night Out the first Tuesday 22

in August and coordinates Shop with a Hero each December. These are two events where Twin Lakes Police Officers give back to the community they serve by helping those in need and interacting with our citizens. The police department lobby is open to the public 24 hours a day. There is a prescription medication drop-off box located in the lobby for citizens to drop off any expired or unused prescription medication. Medication should be the original bottle or packaging when disposed. Other services available at the police department include fingerprinting, department tours, vehicle lockouts, and security surveys.

Town of Randall
ocated in the Southwest corner of Kenosha County, surrounding Twin Lakes, the Town of Randall was formed when Kenosha County was created from a much larger Racine County in 1850. The boundaries were determined by splitting the Town of Wheatland in half. The town was named for the then seated Governor, Alexander Randall. Today the Town of Randall is home for about 3,184 residents. The Town Board of Randall meets at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday each month at the Town Hall, 34530 Bassett Road, Bassett, Wis. Randall Town Hall can be reached at 262-877-2165. Randall is home to the Warren Close Bark Park located at KD Park, 35610 89th
St., Twin Lakes. The Dog Park, part of Kenosha County Dog Parks, is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and abides by the Kenosha Dog Park rules, available on their website. KD Park also includes a baseball field, hiking trails, fishing and swimming. The Randall Fire Department is housed in two locations, Powers Lake and Bassett, and has nearly 40 members. In addition to firefighters, Randall has a First Responder Unit, Cadet Squad and Auxiliary. In operation since 1985, the Randall Fire Department has two engines, a ladder, a tender, a grass rig, two utility pickup trucks and an off-road UTV. The Randall Fire Department hosts an annual Easter egg hunt, craft fair and Breakfast with Santa. New members are always welcome.
Twin Lakes Seniors Club The 130-member strong Twin Lakes Seniors Club is open to all seniors over the age of 55. The club meets on the first and third Mondays of the month at Calvary United Church of Christ, 1511 Wilmot Ave., Twin Lakes. Members are from Twin Lakes and the surrounding areas, including northern Illinois. Seniors arrive early to socialize and have coffee and cake with the meeting beginning at noon. After the meetings, the members play bingo on the first Monday of the month, and cards, games or crafts on the third Monday of the month. Monthly trips to casinos, plays, restaurants, and more are taken March through November. Dues are $10 per year, trips are extra. Business in the Park, Aug. 24, offers a Business Expo, 6th Annual Car Show, craft and retail vendors, a brat/hot dog lunch and children’s area to make the event a fun time for the whole family. The fun continues with the Village Block Party. Live entertainment and good food are available at the Block Party on Main Street in front of the Chamber office. The 2nd Annual Oktoberfest and Scarecrow contest is tentatively set for Oct. 12 at Twin Lakes Country Club. Oktoberfest features entertainment, silent auction items, raffles, costume contest and other fun activities to help the chamber continue to support community events, support education, local charities and community projects.

Trees on Parade (Dec. 6 and 7) kicks off the holiday season with Decorated Christmas Tree and Gingerbread Contests, holiday shopping and Santa. Dec. 6 the Chamber will host the annual Village Tree Lighting in the park by the caboose. There will be carols, cookies and hot chocolate and other activities in the park before the tree is lit.
