4 Elkhorn Christmas tree lighting:

Experience the small town comfort and joy of the holiday season in Elkhorn at 6:30 p.m. as we light up the town with Christmas Spirit at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting. Santa Claus and a special guest helper will wave their wand to magically light the tree in the downtown square. Veterans Park, 100 W. Walworth St., Elkhorn. Participants than follow Santa to the Walworth County fairgrounds for the Let it Glow! holiday light display.

Let it Glow! is a half-mile drive-thru festival of lights at the Walworth County fairgrounds in Elkhorn, 411 E. Court St. There will be whimsical work stations for Santa’s favorite helpers, music and cheer. Children are invited to bring their letters to Santa as there will be a special mailbox with express service to the North Pole. Christmas Card Town Parade: 1:30 p.m. in downtown Elkhorn. Bundle up and grab a spot downtown to watch the 39th Annual Christmas Card Town Parade featuring holiday-themed floats, novelty acts, music, animals, and Santa and Mrs. Claus. With plenty of space along the route, organizers urge attendees to be sure to socially distance.

45th Annual Lake Geneva Electric Christmas Parade: 5 to 7 p.m. on Broad Street in downtown Lake Geneva. Features “Christmas Classics: Movies, Music and Stories” as its theme. The new parade format keeps participants and spectators safe during the ongoing pandemic. Floats will be stationed in the southbound lane of Broad Street between Wisconsin and Henry Streets, while spectators will drive by in the northbound lane to view the holiday-inspired floats. While driving the parade route, visitors can listen to the online parade podcast to learn about the floats and the organizations behind them, plus vote for your favorite in the People’s Choice Awards. Store offers timeless clothing that’s great for gifting

colors after having taken numerous trips to Mexico. It was there that she fell in love with the loose-fitting cotton gauze fabric clothing so comfortable even in the hot Mexican sun. She envisioned some styles and colors that would appeal to the American buying public, designed, then and had them manufactured for her in Mexico. By 1995 she had branded the Oh My Gauze! Original Clothing designs and carried them exclusively in her store in Lake Geneva and her additional location in Sarasota, Florida, which she opened in 1994. By 1998 a third location was opened in Naples, Florida. The Oh My Gauze! designs became popular at all three locations and Mooney continued to add new designs and colors each year.

A winter surge

While summertime in Lake Geneva is the perfect time for the flowing, casual styles of Oh My Gauze! clothing, many have wondered about choosing that location. Although Lake Geneva is a summertime favorite – a place to enjoy time on the beach or on Geneva Lake – it has cold and snowy winters, not the time when customers are anticipating the wearing of this lightweight clothing. It is surprising, then, that in most years sales are highest in the wintery days in Lake Geneva than in the summer. “In past years, many of our customers would come in to purchase their new gauze outfits preparing for their winter trip to warmer climes such as Florida, Arizona or even Mexico or

for their winter cruise,” said Urban. “Many were also purchased as holiday gifts.” Times have changed this year because of the pandemic. Many people who would normally be traveling to warmer areas in winter or taking cruises will not be this year due to the closing of the cruise lines, fear of flying and the changing recommendations to protect against COVID-19. However, that doesn’t mean that customers won’t be looking to add to their wardrobe for summer weather and future travel.

A blast of color

A step into Oh My Gauze! is a step into a blast of color, making it the perfect place to visit on a dreary winter day. Racks of colorful clothing perfect to mix and match to achieve a personal fashion look are found throughout the store. “Our colors change each year as fashions change,” said Urban. “This year we have a large number of beautiful colors including royal blues, crimson, sunset, turquoise, peony (a pink blush shade) – bright and sunny for summertime anywhere or wintertime in warmer climates,” Urban said. “We have already ordered the new shades, which are being created at this time for next summer. They will be in the store in early spring, perhaps in time for that spring getaway.” While a few of the colors are retired each year, others remain popular and continue. Putting an outfit together to give yourself a unique look that is your style is possible as the tops and bottoms are interchangeable and available in a variety of styles and colors. The loose, comfortable fit of both tops and pants make them attractive to all. Each of the designs has a name, most of them a woman’s name, to make it easy to find the exact style people are looking to purchase or to find it on their online store. “The Lynn top is currently a best seller,” Urban said. “It has a V-neck and 3/4-length sleeves. It also has a stylish V at the waist. It is not a long top, rather waist length. Like most of our items the color choice is yours and pairs well with a variety of our pant styles. A very comfortable and attractive look.”

Loose or tailored look

Whether one prefers the loose and flowing look for their pants and tops or a more tailored look there are styles to please. The pants, like the tops, vary from loose and flowing with wide legs to the more tailored, skinnyleg pants. Some of the pant styles are so flowing and full that they appear to be a skirt rather than pants. It’s perfect for that event that requires a more elegant look

yet allows the wearer to be cool and comfortable. Among the current popular pants is the new wide-leg pant with buttons up to the knee on the sides. It comes in a variety of colors. Oh My Gauze! also offers a variety of skirts in different styles and a coastal dress. After all, one doesn’t always have to wear pants. Skirts are a favorite, cool summertime look. All clothing from the store is designed to last a long time. The styles are timeless and care is easy. The 100% cotton clothing is washable and will not shrink. Best of all, ironing is not necessary. All of this cotton gauze is breathable making it comfortable whatever the weather. Although many of the customers are described as those who spend winters in warmer climates or weeks on a cruise ship, younger fashion conscious customers are also seen in the store. Many of the younger customers who are so health conscious appreciate the 100% cotton without any chemical additions. Hoping to provide a greener environment these clothing items are just what they are looking to find. The younger shoppers appreciate the wide range of colors and the unique styles. The skinny pants, are attractive to them and are among their favorite choices. The store is always open to items that are different and unique such as the wide leg pants with slits. The younger shoppers also love the T-shirts available in the store. These shirts, like everything sold at Oh My Gauze!, are top quality and, according to Dugan, last a long time without losing shape or color. “We also carry a Moroccan line of clothing which is soft and flowing. It is lighter than the Oh My Gauze! items but it does not breathe as well. Because it does not breathe as well, it may be worn in winter as it is warmer,” said Urban. “A popular top is one that is known as Cold Shoulder. Although the shoulder is

exposed, it has a three-quarter-length sleeve.” The Moroccan line comes mainly in blacks, off whites, and beige. Occasionally there are colored pants but these are usually carried in Florida. While it is a beautiful line, there is a disadvantage. The Moroccan line clothing must be dry-cleaned.

Accessorize!

Using jewelry to accessorize the Oh My Gauze! outfits requires special statement pieces. When shopping, look at unique pieces at Oh My Gauze! that have been selected to work with the current line clothing. Many of the designs are large, “chunky,” and in colors that complement the clothing. According to Urban, business has been slower due to the Pandemic with fewer shoppers visiting downtown Lake Geneva. Many regular

customers are not coming in because they do not see the need for new clothing as their plans for this winter are uncertain. “We do have a large number of regular customers who will be back as they are ready to shop as the pandemic becomes more controlled,” added Urban. “For those that are not ready to return to shopping in the store, our online store is available (ohmygauze. com).” Shopping is safe at Oh My Gauze! as staff has instituted strict cleaning procedures to protect against coronavirus. Hand sanitizer is available for customer and employee use in the store and its use is encouraged. Employees continuously clean the counters and the credit card machines to help prevent spreading germs. “We also steam the clothing so that you are sure everything is fresh,” added Urban. Oh My Gauze! remains a family-run company. Joy and Ken Mooney’s daughters, Alison and Kendra, along with their husbands now manage the business and continue to provide the special designs and quality clothing enjoyed by customers. Local businessman has grand plans for former theater

A

former movie theater in downtown Delavan got a second act when the River Church moved in. Now, local businessman Jim Beall will give it a third act as the Wishing Star Theatre – a destination venue that will host a variety of live entertainment. Beall said the new venue will be a place where dreams can come true for people looking to perform and for people looking for entertainment options. He said it will have a nightclub atmosphere and host a variety of live performances. Beall, owner of Beall’s Jewelry Store for more than 40 years, is a local resident who was born and raised in Delavan. He said he was interested in purchasing the theatre after the cinema it housed closed in 1999 but the River Church expressed its desire to fill the

space, so he backed off. Instead, Beall became involved with the Phoenix Park Bandshell and eventually became the president of that organization as well as its talent chairman. The bandshell hosts a variety of free outdoor concerts throughout the summer. Beall said he has extensive knowledge of booking agencies, stretching budgets and getting a lot of “bang for your buck” when it comes to booking talent. Beall said he is not looking to abandon, or compete, with the bandshell, but rather to complement it with the new venue. “The bandshell is the very best venue in the lakes area,” Beall said. “It has outdoor entertainment, 45 music programs from Memorial Day to Labor Day, it’s all free, it has a diversity of

genres and appeals to all ages. It is the very best venue anyone could ask for.” He plans to host alternative events later at night and said events at the bandshell are typically done by 9 p.m. so that would be when The Wishing Star performances would begin. People will be able to go from the bandshell right downtown a few blocks to the theatre for even more entertainment. The Wishing Star will also be a year-round venue while the bandshell is limited to summer. ‘An amazing structure’ Beall said he has a lot of personal familiarity with the theatre as he and his family visited it often when he was young. He said he came to watch movies every weekend with his grandfather who loved movies, music and amusement parks. His brother, Tom, even acquired a marionette set and put on performances at home. Beall said he’s had his eye on the former theatre for nearly two years since the River Church moved out. When the price finally came down to his range, he felt it was his calling to buy it. He said one reason he bought it was to protect the bandshell programming and he feared someone else might and compete directly with it. “It really is an amazing structure,” Beall said of the engineering that went into constructing the theatre building. It’s made of brick, steel, and plaster and stucco over wire mesh and the original barrel roof is unique. The plan is to restore it to its 1929 Mediterranean Revival architecture. It will not be a “historic restoration” but more of a retro-modification. The building was built with a stage and a screen for both live entertainment and movies and even has a small orchestra pit. The cinema seating will be removed and replaced with tables and chairs in cabaret style on four terraces with a radiant heating system built into the flooring. Seating capacity is expected to be 264. The ceiling will be restored to its original midnight blue. A bar and coffee station will also be added. The building’s roof has already been replaced, Beall said, as water was leaking in and causing damage so it quickly became the first priority. Next on the list will be replacing the heating and air conditioning systems with the radiant heating and new A/C that will be hidden behind architectural elements to be added. The current air ducts hanging from the ceiling will be removed. Appreciating the original Beall said he hopes to restore the building’s original marquee, which he believes was covered up by the more modern one that is visible today. The building is listed as a historic site, so Beall has been working with an architect to meet state guidelines. He has also been working with his brother, Tom, who returned to Delavan from New York City recently due to the pandemic. Tom Beall – who Jim calls his “Executive Director” for the project – has extensive experience in theatre. He graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago and the Goodman Theatre and was involved in local theatre in Chicago for more than a decade. He then moved to New York where he had been involved in stage productions, television and films. Beall said Tom being in Delavan has been a blessing because he has been able to pour himself into the project. He said the vision for the use of the space, which Carmike Cinema divided in the 1970s into two rooms so they could have two movies showing at once, is aggressive. “When completed, it will be an absolutely beautiful room restored to its original grand architecture,” Jim said. In addition to hosting duos, trios, tribute bands and possibly even some nationally known acts, Beall said the space can be used for banquets and receptions, traveling theatre, comedy nights, and open mike nights. He also wants to open the room to the community as a community center where

senior citizens or youth can gather in the large space or in classrooms the church built upstairs. He even said showing movies in some form might be viable in the future. Some of the more interesting elements of the building, Beall said, included finding out that the stage and backstage areas are all concrete and brick with a fire curtain and sprinkler system to protect scenery and curtains. Delavan Public Works Director Mark Wendorf also made Beall aware there are several original lanterns that once hung on the theatre’s interior walls in the city’s possession. Beall said the black wrought iron styling of the lanterns inspired the similar ironwork that will decorate the terraces.

Beall joked that Red Slelton’s ghost haunts the basement dressing rooms. He said he sees The Wishing Star as a destination venue that can, in conjunction with the bandshell, continue the revival of Delavan’s downtown. “A lot is happening downtown in Delavan,” he said. “There is a surge in interest in doing business downtown and we are setting records in residential sales.” Beall said with the economy recovering, things are looking good for downtown Delavan, and small downtown business districts will thrive in the near future. The Wishing Star, if all goes according to Beall’s plan, will be a big part of that revival in Delavan.

Wilmot Mountain offers snow much fun for all abilities by Sandra Landen Soon, looking out the Machaj window, we will realize that the cool and colorful days of CORRESPONDENT fall have come to an end. The trees are bare having lost all their beautiful yellow, orange and red leaves. Flowers are no longer blooming and days are gray while the temperature continues to dip. Then we wake up one morning and discover that through the night the world has turned into a winter wonderland. A covering of snow blankets the ground and snowflakes cling to the bare tree branches giving them a white glow. Soft snowflakes continue falling. While the amount of snow that we have received the past few years has not been conducive to cross country skiing, downhill skiing, tubing and snowboarding have been easily enjoyed by a visit to nearby Wilmot Mountain. or colder with low humidity to fire up our fleet of snow making machines,” Wilmot Mountain General Manager Scott Leigh said. “We want to ensure a great snow surface for our guests when we do open up.”

The ‘mountain’s’ history

Wilmot first opened in 1938 when Walter Stopa leased property from a local farmer in the Wisconsin border town of Wilmot to open a skiing facility. He named it Wilmot Hills and it soon became a favorite skiing destination for residents from Chicago, Milwaukee and surrounding communities. It was here that Midwest families learned to ski. For the first 12 years, the ski facility was dependent on mother nature supplying the snow needed to ski the area. Then, in 1950, the facility became the first to master the art of snowmaking. This early method used rubber hoses, aluminum pipes, sprinkler heads, water and air to cover the hills with snow. Far different from the sleek fleet of snow makers in use today. Over the following years other improvements were made. Lights were installed to allow nighttime skiing. Before they opened for the 1970 ski season, the first chairlift was installed. New features were added regularly, including jumps and a fullservice restaurant opened onsite along with a tubing facility. In 2016 things really changed for Wilmot Mountain when it was purchased by Vail Resorts and many upgrades were made,

giving Wilmot Mountain a brand new look. Upgrades included the addition of new lift towers and chairs brought from Colorado. The new lifts increased the ability to bring more skiers to the mountain top more efficiently. This allowed skiers to spend more time skiing and less time waiting for the ski lift.

Season opens soon

This season, plans are to open on Dec. 5, dependent on weather conditions and the ability to make snow if nature does not provide it. While activities may work a bit differently than in past years, because of the COVID-19 pandemic they still look forward to a great ski season for all. “Because safety has always been one of our core values, we will be requiring face coverings, and physical distancing. We will require that guests and employees stay home if they have any signs of illness,” Leigh said. For everyone on the mountain, masks are required for both employees and guests. They must be worn while loading and riding in the chairlifts, when inside the buildings and during all ski and snowboard lessons. A big change will be noticed when boarding the ski lifts. To maintain social

distancing, they will limit the way they fill the lifts. “We will only be seating related parties (guests skiing together or riding together) or two singles on opposite sides of a fourperson lift,” Leigh said. Another change skiers will notice this year is tickets must be purchased online, in advance. Skiers will not be able to make a last minute trip to the ski hill and purchase a lift ticket at the gate. Learn to ski

Ski and snowboard classes will be offered this season but with some restrictions. Children’s classes are very popular as they are fun for the kids. They are also recommended as starting them young and teaching them the correct technique will help them enjoy a safe and successful ski experience. Passing by the children’s ski and snowboard area there are always the sounds of laughter and joy as the children begin to master skiing skills, learning to balance and making their way down the smaller hills. Falls are inevitable but they soon learn to laugh them off as they struggle to their feet, often with help from an instructor. Children of all ages and of all skill levels are welcome, although they need to sign up for the appropriate class. The class size this year will be a maximum of six. For the younger children the numbers will be even lower; 5 and 6 year olds will have a maximum class size of four. Because 3 and 4 year olds often spend a good portion of their class indoors, Wilmot Mountain will be offering one-on-one, full-hour private lessons. All classes must be booked online. While the children are safely enjoying their lessons, more experienced adults will make their way to the nearly 120 skiable acres, choosing from 23 trails.

Snowboarding and tubing

For snowboarders the terrain park will provide the space they need to practice their craft. This terrain will challenge the boarders as they fly over the snow, experimenting with new boarding moves. Snow tubing has become a family favorite activity because all can enjoy the activity together without having to be divided because of age or skill level. Make your way to the top of the hill, sit in the tube and be ready to slide down the hill, with the tube twisting its way down to the bottom, while riders screech with joy. The tubing hill at Wilmot, located adjacent to the ski hill, with its own entrance and parking, is a popular place for family fun. Making it safer is the individual lanes for tubing with a snow berm between them. No worrying that someone will run into you as you are speeding down the hill. Hang onto your tube and enjoy the ride. Spending time out of doors and burning calories while skiing, snowboarding, or tubing leaves one hungry and thirsty. In past years that meant heading to one of the restaurants for a drink and a meal. While plans are not finalized at press time for dining options, some plans are in place. Food options in the quick service restaurants will be more limited and there will only be a handful of ready to-go hot and cold options with no ability for custom or specialized orders. “Tables will be spaced further apart to allow for physical distancing when eating,” Leigh said. “Enhanced cleaning and disinfecting will take place daily and we will also be maintaining as much outdoor seating space as we can add.” Because of the limitations in food service, it is recommended that guests adjust their mealtimes and try to dine earlier or later than the peak lunch period. Stopping at one of the restaurants will not be as easy as it has been in the past, so they encourage all skiers, snowboarders and tubers to bring water, snacks and other foods with them on the mountain to ensure that they stay hydrated and have the energy needed for their ski time. Just as most events in our lives have changed this year, a day at Wilmot Mountain will be a little different as we adjust to the safety requirements of hand cleaning, spacing and wearing masks. But what will not change is the fun and excitement of a day out of the house and into the cool crisp air enjoying skiing, down the mountain. Skiers’ Paradise Hills offer a variety of runs for all abilities

With the anticipated arrival of snow and winter-like temperatures this year, skiers are anxious to get back on the slopes. Skiing and snowboarding remain popular among athletes and outdoor enthusiasts who refuse to be relegated to the couch during the winter months. The Geneva Lakes Area features three major ski hills, which are slated to open in December as weather conditions allow. Remember to call ahead or check the respective websites to ensure the hill is open. They added a handcrafted sign with the official Little Free Library charter numbers.

Incorporated to inspire

The Little Free Library was officially incorporated by Bol and his friend Rick Brooks on May 16, 2012, and registered as a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization. from Cashton, who assisted them in creating additional book boxes using recycled wood from a 100-year-old barn. While constructing the boxes was not difficult and many people created their own, it is important that they are waterproof to protect the books from being damaged by rain or snow. While Bol originally gave away his creations, he reached the point where it was necessary to charge a fee in order to continue to purchase materials to create new boxes. With the libraries becoming so popular, Bol had a goal. He respected Andrew Carnegie, the philanthropist who was responsible for funding 2,509 libraries between 1883 and 1929. Bol decided that he would like to produce 2,510 little free libraries, one more library than Carnegie had endowed. On the Little Free Library website, Bol noted that his goal was to accomplish the placement of 2,510 libraries although he acknowledges that Carnegie had a more difficult time because the cost of the Carnegie library buildings was much higher than the cost of the tiny ones Bol was producing. “The goal (of 2,510) was reached in August 2012, a year and a half before our original target date,” Bol said on the website. “By January of 2014, the total number of registered Little Free Libraries in the world was conservatively estimated to be nearly 15,000 with many more being built.”

A local presence

Little Free Libraries are located in a variety of places throughout the community. There are several in downtown Lake Geneva, each with its own unique look and placement in front of a private home, a city building, a school, a church, or a business. The best way to locate the Little Free Libraries is to visit the Little Free Library map at www.littlefreelibrary. org and search for those either in your area. A trip to check out the Little Free Libraries may be just the activity to avoid boredom during these cold days of staying at home. Often the library will hold books that reflect the library’s sponsor. Those placed in front of schools frequently focus on children’s books to encourage students to read. For many choosing a book from the Little Free Library is often a special treat – especially for children who aren’t able to purchase books. The Little Free Library that is strategically placed at the Geneva Lake Conservancy in Fontana can be found south of the entrance walkway at the Mill House, 398 Mill Street, and is registered as Little Free Library No. 19009. The goal of this library is to share information and skills, by including books in that deal with conservation and green issues such as native plants, organic gardening and rain gardens. Many residents and visitors to Lake Geneva have seen the Little Free Libraries that have been placed in the downtown area. Visitors, especially those who make a

stop at the Lake Geneva Chamber office on Wrigley Drive, will notice the Little Free Library in front of that building. This library was donated by the Badger High School Student Leadership group and constructed in the school’s technical education class.

The first local ‘library’

The library at 406 Spring Rd., Lake Geneva, is listed on the map as having been the first Little Free Library in Walworth County. Laurie Schinkler of Lake Geneva describes her family’s process of building the library with registered No. 6,377. “My son in law designed and built my library and my daughter made it a work of art,” Schinkler said. “Then to complete my project, my husband installed it. The first patron to the Little Free Library was the little boy across the street who donated four of his books. He was followed by the little girl who lives down the street, who took one of his and left one of hers. This is the first registered Little Free Library in our county and has attracted a lot of attention.” Once a Little Free Library is registered, the person who registers it becomes its steward and is in control of the types of books to be offered in the library. The steward is also responsible for maintenance of the box. Painting the box in colorful designs is common as they add their own touch of artistry.

Tips for builders

Ready to begin work on your own Little Free Library? If you are designing and building your own library be certain to use quality materials that will render the box waterproof. The roof should have shingles or other waterproof materials. The front of the box must have a door that is easily opened and is also watertight when closed. People may visit www.littlefreelibrary.com and download a variety of free plans that have been developed. The website also offers a number of suggestions to consider when building your Little Free Library. They are: • Use recycled or found materials if possible. • Demonstrate green building techniques and materials when possible.

• Build and finish it to last. Use screws rather than nails, and cover with several coats of quality stain or paint. • If after completing the library, you are experiencing common problems such as condensation forming or leaks, or paint fading check out the FAQ section on the website. For those less inclined to design and build their own, a visit to www. littlefreelibrary.com to view the large number of kits and finished libraries offered for sale may be your answer. Each of these libraries is built in Wisconsin or Minnesota. Purchasing one online includes the registration plaque and number. Ice, Ice, baby!

Ice Castles slated for a return The frozen wonderland known as Ice Castles is slated to return to the Lake Geneva area for this year’s winter season. Ice Castles is an award-winning winter attraction that is built on site using hundreds of thousands of icicles hand-placed by professional ice artists, according to the company that sponsors the attraction in four cities across North America. The castles include breathtaking LED-lit sculptures, frozen thrones, ice-carved tunnels, slides, fountains and more. Locally, Ice Castles, will again be built at Geneva National Resort, 1091 Hidden Cottage Cir., Lake Geneva. This is the third year for the attraction in Wisconsin. The inaugural year saw the Ice Castles built at Riviera Beach in downtown Lake Geneva. Opening is dependent on weather conditions with long stretches of freezing temperatures needed to accommodate construction of the attraction. The photoworthy Ice Castles will last into March, weather permitting. Dates and hours will be announced online at icecastles.com.

Ice Castles will operate on a reduced capacity this season to promote social distancing, according to the company. Wherever possible, tunnels and crawl spaces will be clearly marked as one-way features to limit face-to-face exposure with other guests. In accordance with local and state mandates, staff and guests older than 2 will be required to wear a mask or face covering. “We are thrilled to welcome families back to Ice Castles at Geneva National Resort this winter,” Ice Castles CEO Kyle Standifird said in a news release. “The safety of our guests and staff has always been our top priority, and the new features and guidelines we have in place this season are designed to create a safe and magical environment for everyone.” Tickets (ages 12 and older) are currently listed at $18.99 Monday through Thursday and $22.99 Friday through Sunday. Christmas Trains ready to roll

The East Troy Electric Railroad will again offer its popular Christmas Train for children and their parents in 2020. The approximately hour-long holiday excursions are set for Nov. 27-29 and Dec. 4-6, 11-13, and 1820. Departures are scheduled for Fridays at 4 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.; Saturdays at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.; and Sundays at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. There will not be rides at 4 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. on Dec. 5. Tickets are $23 for adults, $20 for children (ages 3-14) and $8.50 for children (ages 0-2. All trips leave from the East Troy Electric Railroad Depot, 2002 Church St., East Troy. Upon arrival, participants will be asked to remain in their heated vehicle and tune to the railroad’s

radio station for information. Groups will be called into the depot for check-in as to not exceed reduced capacity in the building. Once aboard the train, participants will take a ride on heated cars to Santa’s Workshop (at the Elegant Farmer in Mukwonago) to pick up Santa Claus. Children will enjoy cookies and hot chocolate, music, and coloring on the way trip. Santa will board the train and distribute gifts to children on the way back to East Troy. The gift shop will be open for shopping upon return to the East Troy Depot. The depot opens at 9 a.m. on weekends and closes after the last train arrives at the station. The total experience last approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. Participants are asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to scheduled departure.

SANTA PARADE TRAIN The annual Santa Parade Train and Santa on the Square celebration will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, in East Troy. Spectators can catch a glimpse of Santa along Highway ES. The train will stop briefly at the following crossings: • 5:30 p.m., train departs at The Elegant Farmer; • 5:45 p.m., Army Lake Road – Army Lake Camp; • 6 p.m., St. Peter’s Road; • 6:15 p.m., Byrnes Street; • 6:25 p.m., Division Street; and • 6:30 p.m., Santa arrives at East Troy Village Square Park via East Troy Fire Department truck to light the Bob Barutha Memorial Christmas Tree and debut of East Troy Lights. In anticipation of Santa’s arrival, festivities will begin at East Troy Village Square Park at 5 p.m., including the debut of East Troy Lights, winter activities, carriage rides, outdoor and sociallydistanced East Troy Winter Market. East Troy Lights is an interactive holiday light show taking place throughout the month of December. It includes timed shows on the hour at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. from Dec. 5 through 31. Visitors to the Village Square can watch the shows on the hour, every hour and with the help of a mobile phone, they’ll be able to try their hand at making their own light show.
