Kenosha County Fair has First Aid Station Since 2019, the fair’s First Aid Station has been staffed by the Salem Lakes Fire/Rescue Department who coordinates with multiple other Kenosha County municipalities to provide the fair with EMS personnel. With the fair’s mission of bringing the community together, having the Rescue and Safety Departments of the county work together to staff this event is the epitome of putting the fair’s mission in action. The First Aid Station is in the Kenosha County Fair Police Building, which is located in the middle of the fairgrounds, directly north of the Marketplace Building. The EMS providers can handle any medical condition from a bee sting to heat exhaustion as well as more critical emergencies, including heart attacks. A licensed ambulance crew is on the grounds during the operating hours of the five-day fair. If patient transport is needed, an emergency call is placed to the Salem Lakes Fire/Rescue. This crew is also equipped with an ATV which can respond to calls anywhere on the fairgrounds. The First Aid Station includes any medical supplies and equipment that may be needed during the week as well beds with privacy curtains used when evaluating guest’s conditions.

The 101st Kenosha County Fair is promising “Wheels and Squeals!” this year. Coming off a successful 100th anniversary run last year, Fair Manager Denise Zirbel said fair organizers are looking forward to the festival. “Last year’s celebration went well; it was great to be back together after 2020 was cancelled and we’re looking forward to more of the same this year,” she said. The fair, which highlights the agricultural accomplishments of the area’s youth with contests, animal shows and sales, and project displays, runs Aug. 17 to 21 this year on the county fairgrounds, 30820 111th St. in Wilmot. Fun for all ages, the fair has something for everyone, including a midway with carnival and games, food, beverages, beer and wine, Fairest of the Fair crowning, live entertainment, racing and more. “We’re family friendly and have so much to do for everyone,” Zirbel said. “It’s really a great deal for the price of admission. Along with our traditional events, which bring people back year after year, we are again having a scavenger hunt, kids parade, and Sunday parade again this year.” Zirbel said all the live music and entertainment on the Creekside Stage is free along with the strolling entertainment throughout the fair grounds. “It’s all free except the couple of Grandstand events Friday and Saturday, which have a small fee,” she said.
What’s new for 2022? So, along with having the events people are used to seeing, the fair has some new activities. “The rodeo is something that’s new,” Zirbel said. “We haven’t had a rodeo for years; it’s been so long no one can remember when the last one was We’re going to have fireworks after the rodeo, too.” Also new, Zirbel said, is the Rock-NCircus daily show, a circus-inspired variety
show that includes: juggling, trampoline, magic, audience participation, comedy and more. “People can now purchase tickets online for the fair, which is new this year. They can go to kenoshaocofair.com and buy their tickets in advance,” Zirbel said. “They can then either print up their tickets or save them on their phone to bring to the gate.” For more information, tickets and a printable schedule, visit kenoshacofair.com.

March in the parade The annual Children’s Parade at the Kenosha County Fair is for kids age 14 and younger. The parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. sharp on Friday, Aug. 19. Entrance into the fair is free for children in costume until 10:30 a.m. The parade is at the Southeast end of the fair near the Fair Office. On-sight registration begins at 9:30 a.m. All entries must be registered by 10:15 a.m. to participate.

The Kenosha County Fair has an all-pay policy. Everyone who enters the fairgrounds must pay the daily admission. Fairgrounds are open 8 a.m. to midnight Wednesday through Saturday, Aug. 17 to 20; and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21. General parking is free; a parking pass (Sections A through E) is $15.

Antique Tractor Parade Thursday, Aug. 17, 5 p.m. Antique Farm Machinery Parade will be held at the Grandstand area at 5 p.m. on Thursday of the fair. Anyone who would like to be in the parade to display old engines, tractors, horse-drawn equipment, garden or farm equipment, tools or any farm related paraphernalia are invited to join in the Antique Machinery Exhibit and have some fun displaying their toys. Antique Farm Machine Exhibit is just inside the Kenosha County Fair main gate and offers a taste of yesteryear. See the old tractors, engines and machinery from a time gone by. Visitors likely to see an oldfashioned pitcher pump to draw water, a rope maker which makes rope from bailing twine – make a rope to take home, how corn was ground into feed and John Deere, Allis Chalmers and Farmall Tractors – along with many others. Truck and Tractor Pull, Combine Demolition Derby Thursday, Aug. 18, 6:30 p.m. Badger Truck Pullers presents an actionpacked night of big power, big smoke and big entertainment followed by the hugely popular Combine Demolition Derby/ Truck, Tractor Pulls and Combine Derby included with fair admission.
T&C Rodeo Friday, Aug. 19 Bull riding, bareback riding, barrel racing and more all day Friday. All for an additional fee of $5 for ages 12 and older. Kids age 11 and younger get in free with an adult. Kenosha County Fair Races Saturday, Aug. 20, 6:45 p.m. Kenosha County Fair/Roger Iles Tribute featuring The Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint series plus WingLESS Sprints and Mini-Sprints. Music and the County Fair go hand in hand. This year’s offerings range from classic rock, to county to bluegrass, there’s something for everyone on the Creekside Stage. Headlining at the fair at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, is country-music favorite Bella Cain. Friday night’s headliner will be The Now, taking the stage at 8:30 p.m. Friday will also feature Stone Theory at 1 p.m. and Saturday’s additional offerings include Justus at noon.

Caden Warren wins with Grand Champion steer in 2021 By Jason Arndt STAFF WRITER
Caden Warren, of Wheatland Willing Workers 4-H Club, followed in the footsteps of his older brother at last year’s Kenosha County Fair by winning the title of Grand Champion Steer. The 1,400-pound crossbred steer he called Stevie was eventually sold at $6 per pound to Miles Truck Service at the livestock auction two days later. Caden, then 16, son of Jonathan and Heather Warren, is the younger brother of Jalyn, 18, and Chase, 20. The youngest of three children couldn’t precisely put into words how he reacted to winning the title. He simply said he was “shocked, happy” when the judge announced him as the winner. Caden, an incoming junior at Westosha Central at the time, became the second in the family to earn Grand Champion Steer with Chase capturing a similar honor within the last five years. The younger Warren, who credited his family, said he learned from his brother on how to raise a steer. “He taught me a lot, everything I know about showing, I learned from him,” Caden said. Chase, who witnessed to the win, couldn’t be more proud of his younger brother and believed the day would come when a younger sibling could garner a top steer. “We always try to win – it is just a matter of time. I thought they would some day figure it out,” Chase said. “I am excited for him.” Caden began working with Stevie on the farm of Lenny and Carol Lois the winter before the fair. He remembered early morning chores, often waking up as early as 5 a.m., only to return later in the evening to continue caring for Stevie. “It feels good knowing all of the hard work paid off,” Caden said. “I have had early mornings and late nights.” Schultz wins two awards Brooklyn Schultz, 14, from Brighton Bombers 4-H Club, showed a reserve Grand Champion steer and Grand Champion swine in 2021. Schultz won last year with 269-pound crossbred hog she named Viper later sold to Billingsley Engineering at $5 per pound. Schultz, however, wasn’t finished with the accolades. The next day Schultz finished second behind Warren in the beef show to capture reserve Grand Champion steer. The reserve Grand Champion steer, a 1,280-pound crossbred called Dynamite, was bought by Kenosha Beef for $4.50 per pound at the livestock auction. Schultz, like Warren, also followed the path of an older sibling. Jordyn Schultz, now 20, previously captured Grand Champion swine and steer. “She would teach me how to set up, buy, steer and walk my pig,” said Brooklyn, an incoming freshman at Westosha Central. Brooklyn has been involved in the pig project for about five years and has shown steer the last three years at the Kenosha County Fair. However, she finds working with steers most challenging, since raising the animal takes constant work in the barn. Brooklyn said winning two titles was

an honor because she considers both projects a productive use of time during the summer. “I like working on them in the summer because it gives me something to do,” said Brooklyn. Jalyn Warren, 18, won reserve Grand Champion swine with a 265-pound crossbred sold to Jeddy’s Bar at $6 per pound. She also captured best in breed with a Yorkshire.
