Brodhead students celebrate homecoming with special events Even though it looked a little different, Brodhead High School students recently celebrated homecoming with activities and dress-up days. “BHS Student Council would like to thank the staff of Brodhead High School for their enthusiastic support of the events,” according to a news release. “While safety precautions changed the way we would have liked to celebrate Homecoming Week, the students appreciated the feeling of unity and fun that we have all been missing over the last year.” Some of the highlights included: • Monday: “Groutfit” Day and powderpuff football game. The underclassmen topped the upperclassmen in the game. • Tuesday: USA Day and boys volleyball preliminary games. The freshmen and junior boys advanced to the final round. • Wednesday: Yin Yang Day and dodgeball games. The sophomores took the dodgeball title. • Thursday: Beach Day and townball. The juniors won in townball. • Friday: Spirit Day and boys volleyball championship. The
juniors were champions in volleyball. All activities were livestreamed to the public and students were able to watch from their classrooms to allow for social distancing. Students were able to sign up for “tailgate” activities the last two class periods on Friday. Activities included a cornhole tournament, 3-on-3 basketball, volleyball, a movie, art studio, board games, Kahoot quiz game, bingo, an escape room and outdoor games. Each class designed and painted a class banner to be displayed in the foyer and members of Brodhead High School Student Council decorated the hallways with streamers and locker decorations. Senior Shelby Backus designed the homecoming T-shirts, which were screen printed by Dolly Stibbe and her art students, and sold to students. The week wrapped up in the foyer with a delivery of Buffalo Wild Wings sponsored by the student council and the Brodhead Education Association. The icing on the cake was a Brodhead-Juda football win over Fennimore, 48-7.
