One person responsible for changes in travel was Charles Lindbergh, who flew the first nonstop flight from Roosevelt Airfield in New York to Le Bourget Airfield in Paris on May 20, 1927. Lindbergh’s plane, created by Ryan Aircraft of San Diego, was built specifically for nonstop flight. Normally, a plane expects to have two seats, one in front of the other, but Lindbergh’s aircraft did not have a front seat because of needed space to hold 450 gallons of fuel, weighing 2,750 pounds. Lindbergh, whose flight covered 3,600 miles, lasted more than 30 hours in the air. As the sole traveler, he sought to conserve fuel for the long trip. With limited fuel, Lindbergh experienced changing weather patterns, including dense fog while avoiding sleep. Lake Villa man charged in March overdose death A 35-year-old Lake Villa man was arrested June 15 on charges of drug induced homicide and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, both felonies, stemming from a March death in Gurnee. Glenn E. Trauthwein, whose next Lake County Court appearance is July 6, remains in Lake County Jail on a $750,000 bail. Glenn E. L a k e Trauthwein County Sheriff’s investigators said the incident happened on March 3, when deputies responded to a home in the 18700 block of West Highfield Drive in Gurnee, where they discovered an unresponsive woman. The woman, identified as 33-year-old Collen J. Todorovic likely had an opioid overdose, a Sheriff’s office news release reports. “Deputies determined Todorovic was likely suffering an opioid overdose and administered Naloxone, while attempting life-saving measures,” the release states, adding efforts were unsuccessful. Four charged in home invasion, homicide
McHenry County authorities took four area men into custody on charges of first degree murder related to a May 27 home invasion in McHenry, the Sheriff’s Office reports. According to a news release, the four men each face an additional count of home invasion and residential burglary, both felonies. Arrested were Charles A. Campo, 31, of McHenry; Jared J. Fox, 25, Wonder Lake; Adam Morris, 44, McCullom Lake and Byron Howard, 36, of Wonder Lake. The May 27 home invasion happened at about 1 a.m., when deputies received an emergency call from a residence in 1800 block of West Davis Avenue in McHenry, where they found Donald Jourayleff with gunshot wounds. Jourayleff later died from the injuries. “Preliminary investigation indicated two masked men were responsible for this shooting,” a Sheriff’s Office news release states. “Investigators worked tirelessly and developed suspect in connection to this crime.”

A decade later, Jobst repeated the flight for the 60th anniversary. Jobst, a decorated pilot, started his career at 16 years old. While working simple jobs as a teenager, he had one goal, to buy into a multiple ownership plane. He met his goal before receiving his solo license, and when he was 18 years old, Jobst
earned a commercial license. Two years later, Jobst gained employment by Capital Airlines, which become United Airlines. Through his time at United Airlines, Jobst moved up the ranks, flying different aircrafts accounting for more than 43,500 miles in the air. By 1991, when he retired, Jobst was United Airlines’ most experience pilot. Through his life, Jobst stayed involved in aviation, including the Experimental Airplane Association. Jobst also served as chair-
man for the EAA fly in for more than 30 years. The EAA fly in, an annual event, draws in 10,000 to 12,000 planes and more than 500,000 visitors each July in Oshkosh. Previously, the fly in was held in Milwaukee and Rockford. Additionally, Jobst participated in aerobatic air competitions, where planes twist, turn and roll. In his first contest, he won the competition, and then earned National Aerobatic Champion honors. On the ground, Jobst was the
first editor of Sport Aerobatics magazine, and taught a fear of flying with radio personality Bob Collins. “We both really wanted to help people overcome their fear and learn to love flying as we did,” said Jobst, who is a pilot instructor and examiner. “We were successful in helping them reduce their fears. Libertyfest returns to Twin Lakes While Libertyfest brings back several favorites to their annual celebration, the Twin Lakes Area Chamber and Business Association has announced new features for the event held June 30 through July 1, a press release states. Libertyfest, a two-day event, is free to families and offers several entertainment options, a Libertyfest parade, Saturday night Aquanut Water Ski Show and children’s activities. “As always there will be a food and beverage court offering a variety of goodies, from brats by the Cub Scouts to hot dogs, ice cream, snow cones, cotton candy funnel cakes, fried
Snickers and Twinkies,” the release adds. Meanwhile, as the food court and other entertainment makes a return, new to Libertyfest is Euro Bungee Jump for all ages and a Sea Hamster activity. For the Euro Bungee Jump, attendees are equipped with a harness and lifted to a Bongo trampoline, where they are launched up to 25-feet into the air. Attendees with a fear of heights are encouraged to try the Sea Hamster, the release states, noting people can step into an inflated ball and placed in a pool of water. “The Hamster Balls will ac-
commodate up to 200 pounds,” the release states. Village of Antioch announces 4th of July celebration events The Village of Antioch has announced its 4th of July holiday events. All events take place on Tuesday, July 4, at Williams Park, 400 Williams St., Antioch, unless otherwise stated. Times and events are as follows: • The annual “5k Run for Freedom” will be at 8 a.m. at the Antioch Scout House, 770 Cunningham Drive, Antioch. • The “Decades of Antioch” parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Antioch Community High School, 1133
Main St., Antioch, and will end at Poplar Ave. • The “Family Fun Fair” will start after the parade at noon. • The great “Family Candy Bar Bingo” begins at 2:30 p.m. Adults pay $1 for up to six games and kids are free. Winners are provided candy bars as prizes. • The Baggo tournament will be at 3:30 p.m. Participants are asked to register the day of the event in the park. • The adult jackpot game

Featured vocalist Jessica “J-La” Lamberty sings the national anthem with Steve Porch conducting the Lakes Area Community Band (LACB) at the season’s first “It’s Thursday” concert held at the Brook Bandshell, 900 Skidmore Dr., on Thursday, June 15. Lamberty also appeared in her role as Miss Antioch, having achieved that distinction in May. The LACB is comprised of volunteer member musicians and anyone of high school age and older is welcome to join. Auditions are not required. Porch, an accomplished musician of international note, has been the LACB’s conductor for the past 13 years. The Antioch Parks and Recreation Department sponsors the concert series which runs through August 10. Next week’s concert will feature the Cover Kings Band. Fox Lake to celebrate anniversary
Featured vocalist Jessica “J-La” Lamberty sings the national anthem with Steve Porch conducting the Lakes Area Community Band (LACB) at the season’s first “It’s Thursday” concert held at the Brook Bandshell, 900 Skidmore Dr., on Thursday, June 15. Lamberty also appeared in her role as Miss Antioch, having achieved that distinction in May. The LACB is comprised of volunteer member musicians and anyone of high school age and older is welcome to join. Auditions are not required. Porch, an accomplished musician of international note, has been the LACB’s conductor for the past 13 years. The Antioch Parks and Recreation Department sponsors the concert series which runs through August 10. Next week’s concert will feature the Cover Kings Band. Mackenzie O’Brien is a rising performer from McHenry County who has performed at over 40 different venues in Chicago, Madison, Austin and
Nashville. She studies opera, but performs from a folk and country base, performing a variety of covers from newer country artists, modern folk and oldies with some rock and originals thrown in. Bring a picnic dinner or dessert and a lawn chair and enjoy the outdoor setting under the branches of ancient oaks with
