The Department of Natural Resources- Richard Bong Park and Wildlife Programs intend to apply for a permit from the Wisconsin DNR to treat up to 5.88 acres of wetlands in the Special Use Zone (SUZ) and the north side of the park; and up to 8.41 acres covering five ponds in the SUZ on the Richard Bong Recreation Area with aquatic herbicides to control cattails, Phragmites, Eurasian milfoil, Curly-leaf pondweed, Coontail, and algae. The proposed treatments would occur between April 21st and September 30th (two treatments for the ponds and one treatment for the wetlands). The Department of Natural Resources- Richard Bong Park and Wildlife Programs will conduct a public informational meeting on the proposed treatment if five or more individuals, organizations, special units of government, or local units of government request one. The meeting would give interested parties a chance to learn more about the proposed treatment from the permit applicant. The Department is not required to but may change the proposed treatments based on information provided by citizens attending the meeting. Any request for a public meeting on the proposed treatment must be made within five (5) days after this notice is published. The request must specify the topics to be discussed at the meeting, including the problems and alternatives, and must be sent in writing to Marty Johnson, Bong Recreation Area, 26313 Burlington Road, Kansasville, WI 53139, (262)945-9461.
