Bistate Fox River Summit to be held virtually March 11 This year’s 9th Annual Fox River Summit will be held on Thursday, March 11 in conjunction with Wisconsin Water Week. The summit will be held virtually alongside events from nine other watersheds. It costs just $20 to join in each day of Wisconsin Water Week programming from Monday, March 8 through Friday, March 12. View the agendas for all days and register at https://wisconsinwaterweek.swoogo.com/wisconsinwaterweek/begin Thursday’s Fox River Summit will begin at 8:15 am with a kickoff of rapid three-minute reports on the work underway by partner organizations working both north and south of the Wisconsin-Illinois border. The author and journalist Judith Schwartz will provide the keynote presentation for the day. Schawrtz has traveled the
world documenting both traditional and innovative ways that agricultural communities protect water quality. Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Deputy Director John Rogner will give a “state partner perspective”. Morning and afternoon concurrent times slots will each have multiple options to choose from, covering recreation on and history of the Fox River, vegetation management, chloride pollution monitoring, wildlife monitoring via Snapshot Wisconsin, promoting soil health best management practices for agriculture to protect water quality, how computer modeling is being used to evaluate options for improving water quality in the southern half of the watershed in Illinois, and an update on ongoing adaptive management efforts and
clean-up plan (Total Maximum Daily Load or TMDL) development for the Fox River in Wisconsin. Roughly 40,000 individuals have been notified that they have exhausted their 50 weeks of PUA, according to Rebecca Cisco, a spokesperson for the Illinois Department of Employment Security. “IDES will continue to notify PUA claimants as they approach the 50-week limit. And, of course, the Department is closely monitoring activity at the federal level in the event new legislation includes extensions or changes to the PUA program,” Cisco wrote in an email. Bocock has experienced this himself and could see them running off without him. “They do think it is funny if they throw you off the sled,” Bocock said. “They are just having a good old time.”
Beyond ambitions While Bocock and his team members have ambitions, he acknowledged dog racing brings about a community, which he said he extends beyond Wisconsin since they often travel across the United States. Since Bocock started, he has met people from Canada and Europe. “You get to see the same faces (at races) that you don’t normally see and then the thing is, there are junior classes, too, so my son next year will be running the sled,” he said. Timothy, 6, will become eligible to race in the junior class on his 7th birthday. Bocock’s daughter, Kirsten, 4, could also carry on the family tradition in three years. On March 2, 2021 the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigations and the Roscoe Police Department discovered a deceased body in a storage unit at Route 251 and McCurry Road, Roscoe IL. This investigation was initiated from a missing person’s report received by the Holiday Hills Police Department on January 3, 2021. On January 26, 2021 the investigation was turned over to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. Through the course of the investigation, probable cause was established to obtain a search warrant, and the execution of the warrant was performed at the storage unit where a deceased body was located. The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as the reported missing person, Michelle Arnold-Boesigner, female 33 years of age. The death investigation is currently ongoing between multiple agencies. We encourage anyone with further information to contact the Criminal Investigation Division at (815)334-4750.

Traffic crash results in two fatalities
On Saturday, March 6, 2021, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Stearns School Road east of Route 45, Warren Township, for a traffic crash with injures. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found a 2009 Audi TTS with extreme damage. Preliminary investigation shows the Audi, driven by a 23-year-old man of Waukegan, was traveling westbound on Stearns School Road at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a guardrail on the north side of the roadway. A passenger in the vehicle, a 23-year-old man of Hainesville, was not wearing his seatbelt and was partially ejected. Both the driver and the passenger sustained major injuries. The driver and the passenger were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where both succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased. The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit

Second arrest made in double homicide
Although one arrest was made in January, Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives continued their investigation into the double homicide of Carlos Rodas Perez and Mercedes Rodas. Further information and evidence led sheriff’s detectives to determining Derenell D. Hill, 35, of the 1700 block of Runyard Place, Waukegan, was involved in the double homicide. Hill was taken into custody on March 3, 2021, in the 200 block of Julian Street, Waukegan at approximately 11:45 a.m. by Waukegan Police for driving with a revoked driver’s license. Yesterday, members of the Gurnee Police Department conducted a search warrant at an apartment Hill has recently been staying at, in the 200 block of Julian Street, regarding an ongoing
investigation they are working. While conducting their search warrant, Gurnee Detectives located a firearm belonging to Carlos Rodas Perez, which was stolen during the double homicide. Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives presented all of the facts and evidence to the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office who approved an arrest warrant for Hill for two counts of first degree murder. A Lake County Judge then approved the arrest warrant and set a bail of $10,000,000. Hill was transported to the Lake County Jail on March 3. The following morning, Hill appeared in court for an initial hearing where his updated bond was set at $5,000,000. He remains held in the Lake County Jail and is next due in court on March 23, 2021, at 1:30 p.m.
Sheriff John D. Idleburg said, “Now that both individuals responsible for these heinous murders are in custody, it is our hope the family of the victims can take the first steps in the healing process. We will always do everything in our power to seek justice for the victims of crime and this is an example of our detectives doing just that, by pressing forward to ensure everyone responsible was held accountable. We are grateful for the assistance we received from both the Waukegan Police Department and Gurnee Police Department.” Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said Thursday that some of his top prosecutors would continue their work on the case. “This calculated and brutal murder has been a top priority for the sheriff and I. will continue to be a priority from now until we achieve justice for the victims and their family.” State’s Attorney Rinehart said. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Beach Park Death Investigation (issued 12/9/20) On December 8, 2020, at approximately 9:40 p.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 10000 block of West Wadsworth Road, Beach Park, for a report of a person
down. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located a 49-yearold female and a 52-year-old male in the garage of the residence. Both appeared to have gunshot wounds. Sheriff’s deputies attempted life-saving measures, however they were unsuccessful. Both subjects were subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene. Sheriff’s detectives responded to the scene and are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident. The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and an autopsy on both individuals were scheduled.
