July 20 12:50 a.m. – wife in labor going to deliver at home on North Gerard Street. It’s a boy. Officer arrived and the baby was being delivered. Provided equipment from an OB kit. 8:45 a.m. – couches put out for garbage on North Church Street. City Hall contacted due to past issues. They will call the owner regarding the situation. 10:25 a.m. – alerted to bike that was found between two buildings on South Washing-

Man shot by police charged with armed burglary An initial appearance was adjourned until Aug. 13 for a Whitewater man who was shot by police after breaking into his ex-wife’s home with a gun after threatening to kill her. Christopher P. Czerpak, 33, was charged July 23 in Walworth County Circuit Court with armed burglary, possession of a firearm by a felon and criminal damage to property. According to the criminal complaint, Czerpak kicked in the door of his ex-wife’s apartment on Fraternity Lane in Whitewater on July 20 after telling the woman the previous day that he was going to get a gun from his brother so that he could kill her and then himself. The woman said when she heard Czerpak enter the apartment, she called police and then hid in a room under laundry and could hear

Shwatal was found with 225 grams of marijuana after being stopped in the Village of Bloomfield on July 17 for driving a minivan with no taillights and a defective brake light, according to the complaint.
Drunken driving • Ryan P. McKevitt, 36, of Whitewater; operating a motor vehicle while under the influence and operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration, both fourth offense. McKevitt was apprehended for drunken driving after he parked with the vehicle’s right front tire on top of the curb in the 500 block of South Franklin Street in Whitewater at about 9:10 p.m. July 10, according to the complaint. He had a blood-alcohol content of .11, failed field sobriety tests, smelled like alcohol and had glassy eyes, according to the complaint.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 7 for a Whitewater man charged with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl. Jose O. Portillo Amparo, 26, was charged July 22 in Walworth County Circuit Court with second-degree sexual assault and strangulation and suffocation. According to the criminal complaint, the girl reported June 18 that at about 5 a.m. on June 16, Amparo choked her and touched her “privates” at a home on North Street in Whitewater. The girl said Amparo had been drinking all day, according to the complaint. She said Amparo asked her and others to watch a movie in his bedroom, and, during
the movie, Amparo pulled her hair because she was looking at her phone instead of watching the movie, according to the complaint. She said Amparo told her, “I want to sleep with you,” and began to choke her, according to the complaint. The girl said she wasn’t able to breathe and thought she was going to die, the complaint states. She said Amparo then sexually assaulted her with his hands and mouth, according to the complaint. When the girl told Amparo she did not want “these things to happen” because she is 16 years old, he said, “Your body looks old enough,” according to the complaint.
