Court news Man gets four years on charges linked to death A Milwaukee man was sentenced to four years in prison on drug charges associated with the death of a man shot by a sheriff’s deputy in East Troy in 2016. Jose G. Lara, 34, was sentenced May 30 to four years in prison and five years extended supervision for manufacturing or delivering cocaine and 1½ years in prison and two years extended supervision for felony fleeing an officer. The sentences are to run concurrently. A charge of second-degree reckless homicide against him was dismissed. The charges stem from an incident surrounding the death of Christopher Davis, 21, of Milwaukee, in Roma’s parking lot on Feb. 24, 2016. On that day, police were conducting a controlled buy of cocaine from Roberto Juarez-Nieves and were waiting for Juarez-Nieves

at an East Troy gas station when Juarez-Nieves contacted the informant facilitating the buy and said he was at Roma’s, according to the complaint. When East Troy police and a Department of Justice special agent arrived at Roma’s with the informant, East Troy police officer Craig Knox had his service weapon drawn and pointed at a dark-colored sedan, according to the complaint. The sedan squealed its tires and drove fast directly at Walworth County Sheriff’s Deputy Juan Ortiz, according to the complaint. Ortiz fired a shot at the car, which went through the windshield and struck and killed Davis, who was in the front passenger seat, according to the complaint. The car sped out of Roma’s parking lot and fled from police at more than 100 mph while being chased by officers

Earlier reports indicated Juarez-Nieves told Lara to flee after he noticed police vehicles in the parking lot. Juarez-Nieves said when he heard gunshots and heard glass break, Davis immediately slumped forward, according to the complaint. Juarez-Nieves said he saw a lot of blood coming from Davis’ forehead, and he
pulled Davis upright and poured water on his head. Juarez-Nieves said he knew Davis was still breathing initially but said Lara “just kept going,” according to the complaint. Ortiz was placed on administrative leave after the shooting while the Department of Justice investigated the matter. After the investigation, in June 2016, then-District Attorney Dan Necci cleared Ortiz of any wrongdoing and said deadly force was justified. Ortiz was restored to full duty. According to the criminal complaint, a woman had left her children at the home of a friend, with whom Grossman lives, while she went shopping on Black Friday. When she and her fiancé returned to the home, Grossman was following her around, and the woman’s fiancé saw Grossman cupping his hand under the woman’s buttocks like he was going to grab it, according to the complaint. When the couple was discussing the incident, the woman’s 9-year-old daughter told them Grossman had touched her on the butt when she was upstairs alone with him, according to the complaint. The girl said she went upstairs to look for a kitten that was hiding in a room where Grossman was playing video
games, the complaint states. When she was on her knees and elbows reaching for the kitten, she said Grossman touched her on her “bad part,” which referred to her butt, according to the complaint. The girl’s sister said she went into the room to retrieve her sister because their mother had arrived and saw Grossman’s hand near her sister’s buttocks, the complaint states. The woman who lives with Grossman reported the incident after Grossman threatened to slash her tires on Jan. 2. She said she and the girl’s mother had discussed the incident and decided to “wait it out” and see if anything new came of it, the complaint states. Grossman was convicted of burglary of a building or dwelling in Walworth County in 2010 and sentenced to eight years in prison and five years extended supervision.

Officer checked the area did observed a VIP van in the area so assume it was the same. 9:06 a.m. – trash on curb on East Hartwell Street. Owner called and instructed trash company is not picking up items not in the receptacles. 9:16 a.m. – television on curb on West Walworth Street. Owner called she advised it was most likely renters and will get the tv removed. 9:25 a.m. – trash on curb on South Davis Street. Owner instructed the trash company not picking up items not in the receptacles. 9:53 a.m. – asked to assist at residence student there has not logged onto the computer for online learning on West Gorman Street.
