Court news Sex offender caught after buying guns An initial appearance is scheduled for April 23 for an Elkhorn sex offender charged with having guns and telling corrections staff he was homeless in Illinois despite living in Elkhorn for two years. Christopher M. Youngs, 41, was charged March 27 in Walworth County Circuit Court with nine counts of sex offender registry violation and three counts of possession of a firearm by a felon. Two co-workers of Youngs notified police March 6 when they learned he was a convicted felon after selling him two rifles and a handgun, according to the complaint. The bill of sale for the guns listed Youngs’ address as South Woodpine Drive in Elkhorn, but Department of Corrections records showed Youngs, a registered sex offender, reported being homeless in Illinois, according to the complaint. Youngs checked in with his registration specialist weekly and reported on at least 33 occasions that he was homeless

and staying near Cherryvale Mall in Rockford, Ill, according to the complaint. Police spoke to Youngs’ parents who reported Youngs had been living with them in Elkhorn since his release from prison in 2017, the complaint states. Youngs was pulled over March 14 leaving the Woodpine Drive home and found with the two AR-15 rifles and a 9-mm handgun in the car, according to the complaint. He was convicted of second-degree sexual assault of a child in Milwaukee County in 2005. Man gets 25 years for having sex with girl A Town of Delavan man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for having sex multiple times a week with a female relative when she was 8 to 12 years old. The man, 48, who is not being named here to protect the child’s identity, pleaded guilty Aug. 15 to repeated sexual assault of a child. In exchange, a charge of incest against him was dismissed.
Court blotter The following people were charged with these Class H and I and unclassified felony offenses in Walworth County Circuit Court between Feb. 28 and March 4: Class H Class H, punishable by up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines: Bail jumping • Jacqueline C. Gudino, 30, of the Town of Delavan; felony bail jumping. Gudino allegedly violated bond on a previous felony bail jumping charge by contacting her sister from her aunt’s phone Feb. 10 in the Town of Darien. Gudino was to have no contact with her sister as a condition of bond. • Frank C. Walsh, 60, of Genoa City; felony bail jumping and misdemeanor bail jumping. Walsh allegedly failed to appear in court as required May 28 on charges of felony drunken driving and misdemeanor operating-while-revoked, according to the complaint. • Patrick J. Weingandt, 23, of Delavan; felony bail jumping. Weingandt allegedly failed to appear in court as required Jan. 10 on charges of substantial battery and disorderly conduct.
• Taylor S. Harrison, 24, of Whitewater; possession of marijuana, second and subsequent offense; and misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct, both with domestic abuse assessments. Harrison was found with a small jar of marijuana in her coat Feb. 23 after allegedly punching her girlfriend in the head, pulling her hair and trying to slam her into a coffee table over a fight about their dog at their Harmony Lane apartment. Gun on school grounds • Kyle Patrick Higgins, 18, of Walworth; possession of a firearm on the grounds of a school, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of marijuana at a school. Higgins was allegedly found with a loaded .22-caliber semiautomatic rifle, ammunition, marijuana and rolling papers in his vehicle on the grounds at Big Foot High School on Feb. 24.
Battery • Yenifer L. Castro Morales, 25, of Delavan; substantial battery. Morales allegedly stabbed a man in the hand with a box cutter at the man’s apartment in Delavan on Feb. 25. He was sentenced Feb. 19 to 25 years in prison and 10 years extended supervision. According to the criminal complaint, the now-teenage girl told police Nov. 20, 2018, that the man, who is related and with whom she lives in the Town of Delavan, repeatedly had sexual intercourse with her when she was 8 to 12 years old. She said the man would have sex with her three to four times per week, according to the complaint. She said the man would offer her things in exchange for sex acts such as using the computer or going to a friend’s house, according to the complaint. A complaint was also made to the Mineral Point Police Department in 2010 of the man sexually assaulting another female relative from the time she was 6 to 12 years old, according to the complaint. In February 2017, a girl reported to Child Protective Services that the man asked her and the female relative to perform a fashion show in their underwear, but the girls declined, the complaint con-
tends. Daniel Cordova, 28, was charged March 26 in Walworth County Circuit Court with second-degree recklessly endangering safety and disorderly conduct, both with domestic abuse assessments. According to the criminal complaint, Cordova’s mom said she, Cordova and her 17-year-old daughter were driving back to their Town of Delavan home March 22 from a family gathering in Milwaukee where Cordova had slapped and shoved his sister. While traveling, Cordova was yelling, swearing and being verbally abusive and threatening, according to the complaint. His mother told Cordova she was going to take him to the sheriff’s office to address

Searched the neighborhood and was unable to locate the dog. 6:10 p.m. – requests for extra patrol on West Randall Place. Recently has been a car racing up and down. 6:14 p.m. – subject would like to speak to an officer regarding landlord entering apartment without giving notice on South Ridgeway Court. Officer called back determined was going to review her lease agreement and discuss the matter with landlord before getting the police involved. 8:20 p.m. – older dog sitting on side of the road on South Getzen Street. Officer checked area and was unable to locate the dog. 8:22 p.m. – car backed into another car on South Eastown Manor. Officer arrived and found very minor damage to one vehicle. Crash was non-reportable. No action taken by officer. 11:31 p.m. – traffic stop performed on vehicle with expired registration on East Court Street. Driver cited for no insurance and issued 10 day written warning for
theft of movable property valued at $10,000 to $100,000. According to the criminal complaint, Perrone stole 14,775 gallons of diesel fuel, valued at $36,279, from his employer, a fuel distributor in Lake Geneva. The owner of the company said he began to suspect the theft when load tickets were missing from Perrone’s deliveries, according to the complaint. The owner obtained video of Perrone coming into the main building of the business on days that he was not scheduled to work and operating a main switch that turns on the field pumps, according to the complaint. A GPS unit on Perrone’s truck showed Perrone was taking fuel to locations in Spring Grove and Fox Lake, Ill., where the fuel was being sold to unknown parties, the complaint states. The owner followed Perrone to the Spring Grove location on one occasion and saw Perrone fuel up several trucks, and then, on dash cam audio, Perrone could be heard making arrangements to meet up and get paid for the fuel.

Learned that subject fell asleep while cooking food on the stove. Food burned in pan setting off the fire alarm. No damage done and fire chief reset fire alarm. 9:45 a.m. – drugs and paraphernalia found in an employee’s locker on East Centralia Street. 1:10 p.m. – officers took dog bite complaint on East Sedgemeadow Street. Informed the owner the dog had to be quarantined and explained the report. 2:21 p.m. - detective took report of Amazon/Discover scam on North Edgewood Avenue. The subject grew suspicious of scam and did not purchase gift cards. The subject brought her credit card to the police department and detective helped her cancelled the card. The subject was not out any funds, but did give personal information. 3:20 p.m. – officers dispatched to silent duress alarm on West Market Street. All was in order. Pushed accidentally. 4:14 p.m. – car accident on South Lincoln Street. Officer observed two vehicles on the side of the road. The striking vehicle rear-ended the other vehicle. Cited for following too close. 5:36 p.m. – wanted officers to make contact with kids playing basketball in the roadway on Edgewood Avenue. Feels it is not sage and they are not paying attention when cars on the road. Made contact with the owner of the hoop and asked him to move the item.

Announcement: After careful consideration we have decided the store will be closed on Easter Sunday, April 12th. Our employees have been working extra hard over the past weeks and we would like to give them a day of rest and time to spend with their immediate families. Due to Wisconsin’s Safer at Home Order we are not able to host the annual egg hunt this year. This is one of our favorite events and look forward to having it again next year.
