Christmas Trains ride the rails again Reservations needed for the popular trip to Santa’s Workshop

The East Troy Railroad will be offering its annual Christmas Trains on Saturdays and Sundays from Thanksgiving weekend until Dec. 17. Advance reservations are required at www.easttroyrr.org.
The Christmas Trains at the East Troy Railroad Museum are running on Saturdays and Sundays through Dec. 16. The fun, family friendly rides take passengers from the East Troy Depot, 2002 Church St., to Santa’s Workshop at the Elegant Farmer in Mukwonago and back. The rides are just shy of two hours per round-trip and include Christmas carols on the trains and hot chocolate and cookies at the Elegant Farmer, where kids can visit with Santa and have their photos taken. “Santa’s Workshop will be better than ever and kids will receive a small gift that is fitting for the occasion,” East Troy Railroad Museum President Ryan Jonas said. “The depot should also be warmer this year, since we installed new doors that will keep the wind and cold outside.” The historic railroad cars are always heated and rest rooms are available at the East Troy depot.
Tickets can be purchased online anytime – this year with no convenience fees. Cost is $18.50 for adults, $16 for children age 3 to 14, and $8 for toddlers who sit on their parents lap for the train ride. Advance reservations at www. easttroyrr.org are required. Trains will depart at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Dec. 1, 2, 8, 9, 15 and 16. The East Troy Railroad Museum operates regular 14-mile round trip excursions from its historic East Troy depot and museum to Indianhead Park in Mukwonago, with a stop at the popular Elegant Farmer store and deli. Celebrating 111 years of riding the rails through Southeast Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine countryside, the not-for-profit railroad is operated and managed by more than 130 volunteers committed to the preservation of historic trolleys and interurban railcars. The East Troy Railroad brings Santa and his sleigh to town on the 2017 Santa Parade Train, which is sponsored by the railroad and the East Troy and Mukwonago chambers of commerce. Santa Claus returns to East Troy Dec. 1 The East Troy Electric Railroad’s Santa Parade Train will make its annual journey into downtown East Troy on Saturday, Dec. 1. Presented by the East Troy Railroad in conjunction with the East Troy Area Chamber of Commerce and Mukwonago Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Center, the holiday-lit four-car train travels down the century-old interurban trolley line between Mukwonago and East Troy. The original East Troy Christmas Parade train, started by the East Troy Jaycees and the railroad in 1972, was an historic

reproduction of the Schuster’s Christmas Parade in Milwaukee. The Schuster’s Department store chain sponsored the parade, established in 1928, to kick off the Christmas shopping season. It disappeared in 1955 with the demise of the Milwaukee Electric Lines interurban and streetcar system. Santa on the Square In anticipation of Santa’s arrival, festivities will begin at East Troy Village Square Park at 5:30 p.m., including a tree lighting, winter activities, Holiday
Marketplace, photos with Santa and more. Activities at East Troy Village Square Park include: • Cookie decorating, s’mores station and DIY Photo Station; • Christmas carol sing-along led by East Troy High School Choir members; • Professional photos of children with Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available following the tree lighting at about 6:40 p.m. at a cost of $8 each, with the proceeds to benefit the East Troy Food Pantry. Volunteers with the Holiday Help of East Troy program organize some of the presents donated to families in need during the 2017 drive. The annual giving campaign collects donations through giving trees, drop off locations, toy barrels, and direct donations throughout November and early December. Holiday Help is a community partnership with area organizations, churches, schools and businesses joining forces to provide Christmas gifts to those in need in the area.
