Santa arrives in East Troy on the 2016 Santa Parade Train. The train returns to East Troy at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, and then Santa and Mrs. Claus will take a trip on an East Troy Fire Department truck to the village square for the annual tree lighting and other holiday activities.

he East Troy Railroad’s annual Santa Parade Train rides the rails on Saturday, Dec. 2. The train departs from Mukwonago’s Midnight Magic celebration and makes its journey to downtown East Troy for holiday fun on the historic Village Square. Special heated passenger trolleys will pick up riders from Elegant Farmer in Mukwonago and transport them behind the East Troy Railroad’s Santa Train to the Division Street crossing in East Troy. Riders will be able to walk to the East Troy Village Square for the community Christmas tree lighting. The trolley will leave at 8 p.m. from the East Troy Depot to take riders back to Elegant Farmer. Holiday activities planned at Village Square Park, 2881 Main St., from 5:30 to 8 p.m., include the lighting of the Bob Barutha Memorial

Christmas tree, winter activities, Holiday Marketplace, photos with Santa, caroling and more. The East Troy Lioness Club will offer walking tacos, hot dogs and hot cocoa in the warmth of the Lions Lodge beginning at 5 p.m. “We are so excited for the return of this family friendly event. This has been a local holiday tradition for decades and is something people look forward to year after year,” East Troy Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Vanessa Lenz said. “This year, we are happy to expand on this East Troy tradition and offer new holiday activities outdoors at East Troy Village Square Park.” Presented by the East Troy Railroad in conjunction with the East Troy Area Chamber of Commerce and Mukwonago Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Center, the beautifully

Parade train, started by the East Troy Jaycees and the railroad in 1972, was an historic reproduction of the Schuster’s Christmas Parade in Milwaukee. The Schuster’s Department store chain sponsored the parade, established in 1928, to kick off the Christmas shopping season. It disappeared in 1955 with the demise of the Milwaukee Electric Lines interurban and streetcar system. The train returned with the East Troy Railroad Museum. Tickets, if still available, for the Santa Parade Train are $15 and can be purchased at www.easttroyrr.org.

Holiday happenings Resource Center to have craft fair, home party The East Troy Family and Community Resource Center will host its annual Home Party and Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, in the Bret Miller Gymnasium at East Troy High School, 3128 Graydon Ave. The event will feature vendors and concessions with both breakfast and lunch items for sale as well as a bake sale with all of the proceeds benefiting the East Troy Family and Community Resource Center. Get ready for the Jingle Bell Rock The fifth annual Jingle Bell Rock will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, at East Troy House, 2093 Division St. Performers scheduled include Hwy D Destroyers, J.R. & Friends, Rock Freeway, Kyle Sweeney and the FHP, Spare Change, Hoi Polloi and JB Experience. Admission is $6 at the door and includes barbecue. The money raised goes to East Troy Fire and Rescue for food and raffles at their summer dance. Christmas Trains at the East Troy Railroad Museum run Saturdays and Sundays, until Dec. 17. The fun, family friendly rides take passengers from the East Troy Depot at 2002 Church Street to Santa’s Workshop at the Elegant Farmer and back. The rides take a little less than 90 minutes round-trip, and they include Christmas carols on the trains and hot chocolate and cookies at the Elegant Farmer, where kids can visit with Santa and have their photos taken. “Santa’s Workshop will be better than ever and kids will receive a small gift
that is fitting for the occasion,” East Troy Railroad Museum President Ryan Jonas said. “You might also see an elf or two and lots of Santa’s Helpers along the way.” The historic railroad cars are heated and rest rooms are available at the East Troy depot. Tickets can be purchased online anytime and are $17.50 for adults, $15 for children (ages 3 to 14), and $5 for toddlers who ride on their caregiver’s lap. Advance reservations are required.
