ach year, when I write the introduction to the Community Guide I try to outline some of the changes seen over the last 12 months. First, while Ann and Ted Zess didn’t quite meet their deadline to open the East Troy Brewery on the Village Square in summer, the new establishment is expected open before the end of the year. After months of tough renovations, and more than one construction delay, the old bank building has been transformed into a stunning addition to the village. With new businesses and growth in established companies, East Troy is attracting more residents and visitors and the warm welcome from the community as a whole brings a smile to my face. The Village of East Troy has been hard at work with other community improvements this past year. From the reimaging of the old Trent Tube site, to the
new signage to the sidewalk projects, the village is working to promote the area as a place for people to live, work and play. One of the big stories this year was the Village Board’s decision to remove the East Troy Dam and restore the Honey Creek. While the loss of East Troy Lake is tough, the board members are looking to create a park and public walking path along the creek where the lake used to be. The project will take a few years to fully complete, but plans are underway to start the changes in 2019. The tri-Troy area has so much to offer, it can’t be contained to a simple introduction, but the three communities – the Village of East Troy, Town of East Troy and the Town of Troy – are making great strides in cooperation and improvement.

Area residents were offered the chance to show their version of East Troy through the lens of their cameras in the 10th annual East Troy Times Community Guide photography competition. This year, two photographers – Kim Berger and John Finney – submitted photos to share with the East Troy community. The photographers who submitted photos this year offer their unique take on life in East Troy and the beauty it has to offer. The East Troy Times wants to thank each of them for sharing their art. Winners were selected on originality, subject matter, visual appeal and connection to East Troy. The winning entries are featured throughout this publication.
