SECOND PLACE East Troy’s Marie Molleson also took second-place in this year’s contest for capturing thirstquenching efforts of this little one on the East Troy Village Square. The judges thought his fascination with the water fountain (or “bubbler” as true Wisconsinites say) was adorable.
Brighter days are coming!
Every year when I do the Community Guide it marks the anniversary of when I took over as the East Troy Newspaper Lady. This past year has been interesting, to say the least. I’m sure the rest of the community is with me in saying a hearty “Goodbye!” to 2020 and welcoming 2021. But for all the troubles and uncertainty this past year has brought, it has also shown us what really matters – family, loved ones and our fellow neighbors. I am always inspired by the generous hearts in the East Troy and this year saw everyone pull together to help out. In a community as affluent as East Troy, it might be inconceivable to some that children might go hungry, but it happens more often than you might think and with the pandemic, area organizations offered free meals to families and community members. People could get a free drive-thru dinner from the Community Center or a free pancake breakfast from
St. James United Methodist Church, and the East Troy Community School District helped families by continuing its food service even after the kids were no longer in school this spring. The district also supplemented families nutritional needs with the free Battle Bags, which many local businesses and organizations donated to. The community also stepped up to help the local businesses and restaurants with take out orders during the shut down and returning to the establishments when they felt safe, or continuing to place carry-out orders. Shopping local was also something that became more important. While this year has been rough on everyone, as I’m writing this, there is hope on the horizon with news of multiple vaccines for COVID-19 proving effective. Hang in there, brighter days are coming!

LIFE THROUGH THE LENS
Area residents were offered the chance to show their version of East Troy through the lens of their cameras in the 12th annual East Troy Times Community Guide photography competition. This year, we had two photographers submit photos – Teve Gorman and Marie Molleson. We usually have five or six people send us photos for the guide, but as with much of 2020, things have been scaled down a bit. The photographers who submitted photos this year showcased the people and places that give this area its color. The East Troy Times wants to thank them for sharing their art. Winners were selected on originality, subject matter, visual appeal and connection to East Troy. The winning entries are featured throughout this publication.
