Welcome to East Troy, where community comes first
O
nce again, it’s time to write the introduction to the Community Guide, where I celebrate another year as East Troy’s Newspaper Lady. Each year, I marvel at the East Troy’s development from the previous year and am struck by the strong community ties enjoyed by the Tri-Troy residents. The Tri-Troy Alliance has been hard at work this past year to foster the feeling of togetherness in the communities and break down any barriers to intergovernmental cooperation to better serve the residents. In the same spirit cooperation, the East Troy Community Center opened its doors in the fall of 2019 with the goal of serving all the area residents by providing programming for all ages and promoting intergenerational
activities to bring people together. The Community Center is in the back of the East Troy Community School District’s Doubek Administration Building and offers senior lunches, movie afternoons, classes, children’s programs and more. The center is funded completely by donations from the community and local fundraisers. The center also houses the East Troy Family Community Resource Center and both entities, while separate, work closely with each other to coordinate and provide opportunities for the community members. Area residents were offered the chance to show their version of East Troy through the lens of their cameras in the 11th annual East Troy Times Community Guide photography competition. This year, three photographers – Kim Berger, Marie Mollenson and John Finney – submitted photos to share with the East Troy community. The photographers who submitted photos this year showcased people, places and events that give this area its color. The East Troy Times wants to thank each of them for sharing their art. Winners were selected on originality, subject matter, visual appeal and connection to East Troy. The winning entries are featured throughout this publication.
