Gerry Emmerich submitted several photos from the 2017 Tour of America’s Dairyland Cycling Classic in East Troy in June. The judges loved the little riders’ fierce determination to finish the race.
East Troy Once again, as I sit down to write this introduction to the Community Guide, I’m reminded another year has passed since I became the community’s “Newspaper Lady.” The last four years have been a blessing for me personally and professionally and I can only say Thank You to the residents of the East Troy area. The Community Guide has a special place in my heart because it gives local residents a chance to show off the beauty and uniqueness of the tri-Troy area with their submissions to the guide’s annual photo contest. In many respects, this year’s photographers offered a very personal view of East Troy. From shots of the local lakes taken from backyards, to the excitement and energy of the Cycling Classic to picturesque views of the countryside, the photographers captured the very heart of East Troy. Roberta Moeller’s photo of a pony at pasture on the cover was chosen as this year’s first-place winner because the judges thought it represented the joys of farming in East Troy, which is not often featured in today’s life. Harkening back to the days of

old, the photo enchanted the judges. Moeller also took the third-place prize a photo she took of her granddaughter holding a kitten at East Troy’s Green Meadow Farm. Gerry Emmerich was awarded second place for one of his photos of the Tour of America’s Dairyland Cycling Classic (seen above). Emmerich submitted several photos of the annual bike race on the East Troy Village Square and also earned an honorable mention for a few of those. Marie Molleson, Tom Barrows and Jenny Moeller all earned honorable mentions for their submissions this year and their photos can be seen throughout the publication. The staff at the Times appreciates everyone’s efforts and beautiful photos. In the last few editions of the Community Guide, I’ve talked about how the downtown square is undergoing a revitalization, which continued throughout 2017. We’ve seen continued renovation of buildings on the square and new businesses, including InkLink Books, right next to the café. Big news broke in early December when Ann and Ted Zess, owners of Allan

Area residents were offered the chance to show their version of East Troy through the lens of their cameras in the ninth annual East Troy Times Community Guide photography competition. This year, five photographers submitted more than a dozen photos to share with the East Troy community. Reciving top honors were Roberta Moeller (first and third) and Gerry Emmerich, second. The photographers who submitted photos this year offer their unique take on life in East Troy and the beauty it has to offer. The East Troy Times wants to thank each of them for sharing their art. Winners were selected on originality, subject matter, visual appeal and connection to East Troy. The winning entries are featured throughout this publication.

The Zesses have set a target opening date of July 1, 2018, and construction on the building is underway. The East Troy Area Chamber of Commerce continues to promote the area

and provide some of the best events around with its Cycling Classic, Bluegrass Festival, Memorial Day weekend’s Corn and Brat Roast and Community-wide Rummage Sale, Brewfest and so much more. And, last but definitely not least, are the volunteers in East Troy, who are the heartbeat of the community. Each year, I watch the local volunteer clubs and organization give back in big and small ways.
