he Village of Twin Lakes is located in the Southeastern corner of Wisconsin in Kenosha County. Currently, Twin Lakes has a full-time population of 6,508, and a vibrant part-time population of summer visitors as well. Our village is growing by almost 1% annually, and our population has increased by almost 200 residents since the last census in 2020, according to worldpopulationreview.com. Twin Lakes offers small-town charm less than 70 miles from Chicago, Milwaukee and Kenosha. Its location offers quick, easy access to two international airports and interstate transportation. In Twin Lakes we have a saying: “Close to everything, but away from it all.” With nearly 1,000 acres of water, the Twin Lakes, Mary and Elizabeth, make the area a popular destination for swimming, boating, and fishing. Five major and several smaller parks offer beaches, basketball,

tennis, pickleball, and volleyball courts, skateboarding, walking trails, baseball diamonds, soccer/football fields, and sledding hills. The Twin Lakes Chamber Office is located in the red railroad depot replica next to the caboose at 349 E. Main St. in downtown Twin Lakes. This railroad design pays homage to the history of the area. Large blocks of ice were harvested from the lakes and shipped to Chicago via railroad during the summer, before refrigeration became commonplace. The Chamber building was ready for use in June of 1998. The arrival of the Chicago Northwestern Caboose TL-699 in June of 1999 was arranged for by resident and Chamber member Bill Porps. The Twin Lakes Area Chamber & Business Association proudly hosts several community events each year. Bring Dad to our 4th Annual Rock the Lake event June 15 to celebrate Father’s Day, as we kick off the summer season. OUR MISSION Our primary purpose is to: Advance the economic, industrial, professional, cultural, and civic welfare of the business and general population of the Village of Twin Lakes and the surrounding areas. Encourage the growth of existing industries and businesses, while also giving proper assistance to any new firms or individuals seeking to locate or vacation in the Twin Lakes area. Support all those activities believed to be beneficial to the community and the area,

and resist those that might be detrimental. Promote the welfare of all area businesses and citizens, always following policies intended to accomplish the greatest good for the greatest number. Convene periodically as a membership, in a social gathering, to propose, discuss, and enact new ideas for the good of the Chamber.

Where Business and Community Come Together! The Twin Lakes Area Chamber and Business Association, Inc. was created in 1991 when two organizations, the Twin Lakes Businessmen’s Association (established 1954) and the Twin Lakes Chamber of Commerce (established 1971) were merged to better serve the community. In 1997, the Association expanded its services to include surrounding communities not already covered by a Chamber or similar organization. One of the goals of the Chamber is getting people together in a face-to-face setting to build business relationships and make new business contacts. Twin Lakes Area Chamber & Business Association, Inc. is a proud supporter of the Twin Lakes Chamber Foundation, Inc., which is dedicated to providing merit-based scholarships to high school seniors in the Twin Lakes area. The Foundation also makes charitable donations every year, to help those in need. Chamber membership is open to all residents and businesses in and around our service area. Anyone interested in what the Chamber has to offer is welcome to be a guest at a Chamber

Membership meeting. By joining the Chamber, you not only invest in your business, but in the community as well. Call the Chamber for more information. Even if you are retired or work outside the area, you can still be a valued part of the Chamber! The Libertyfest celebration at Lance Park begins at 4 p.m., with food and beverages, music, an Aquanut performance, and fireworks at dusk. Get out on the links September 18 for the Annual Chamber Golf Outing. Enjoy a day of golf, have lunch, compete for prizes, then end the evening with the ball toss, a great dinner, and raffles. A fan favorite event, Trees on Parade and Holiday Shopping will be December 6 and 7 at St. John’s Community Center. Let a Decorated Tree Contest, an Ugly Sweater Contest, and a Gingerbread House contest get you in the holiday mood. Good food and Christmas music add to the festivities. And best of all, our vendors and crafters will help you get a head start on that holiday shopping! You can get to know our local businesses, bars, and restaurants during our scavenger hunts in March, July, and October, and the 5th Annual Elf Scavenger Hunt will take

History of

Twin Lakes The original settlers in the Twin Lakes area were the Sauk, Fox, and Potawatomi tribes, long before white settlers came. Native Americans found high ground, with abundant fishing and hunting that were the means for their survival. In 1833, after the Native Americans were moved to reservations, settlers Jonathan Imeson, from England, and his wife Mary Wray, the daughter of another settler Thomas Wray, staked a claim in the area later known as English Prairie on the southern tip of Lake Elizabeth. Their twin daughters, Mary and Elizabeth, were the first twins born on the Prairie. The lakes, formerly called Nippersink Lakes, were named after the twin girls and soon the area became known as Twin Lakes. In 1859, the Kenosha, Rockford, and Rock Island Railroad Company laid tracks in the area, passing through on the north side of Lake Mary and bringing the outside world to Twin Lakes. By 1880, the depot was built with a sign on the side reading Twin Lakes. Ice harvesting, farming, and weekend getaways bringing people to Twin Lakes were a key factor in the development of the town. Haegles’ ice house was started on Lake Elizabeth in the late 1850’s and more soon followed. Ice was harvested in large blocks and stored, to be sent to the city for use in the summer. The first hotel, the Ackerman, was erected in the 1870s. Estates, resorts, taverns

and the Twin Lakes Ballroom, the largest ballroom in Wisconsin, made Twin Lakes a vacation destination by the turn of the century. Summer estates, handed down to the next generation, were common at the time. Twin Lakes prospered during the “Roaring ‘20s”, as many claimed it was the resort capitol of the Midwest. The Twin Lakes Ballroom, later called the Wonder Bar, was unique because most of the big bands played there. Glen Miller, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Dorothy Lamour, and the Andrews Sisters all performed in the Ballroom. Lawrence Welk and his new wife Fern lived in a little room in the Twin Lakes Ballroom for the summer of 1931 when they came to Twin Lakes with a new band. Ice houses began declining in the 1930’s and the ice industry disappeared from Twin Lakes. Events Community Scavenger Hunts This year the Chamber plans to continue its new tradition of scavenger hunts to give our residents and visitors a chance to get to know our local businesses and have fun at the same time. We are planning a Leprechaun Scavenger Hunt (March 16), a Monkey Around Town Summer Scavenger Hunt (July 20), a Trick or Treat Scavenger Hunt (October 19), and our 5th Annual Christmas Elf Hunt (December 14).

Chamber Foundation Fundraising Dinner Wilmot Stage Stop will host this event, tentatively scheduled for March 6, to help boost the Foundation funds available for scholarships and charitable donations to the community.

Fireworks Raffle The Twin Lakes Area Chamber & Business Association will be selling raffle tickets to help fund the annual fireworks display. The drawing will be held at 7 p.m. at Lance Park before the fireworks. Tickets will be available from the Chamber Office, Board Members, and local businesses. This raffle is open to the public. Summer’s End at Lance Park We won’t have Cornfest this year, but the hosts of Cornfest are hosting a smaller event to celebrate summer in Twin Lakes August 16-17, at Lance Park. Stay tuned for details.

Street Dance For the last event of the summer season, local businesses put together a car show to benefit Wounded Warriors, followed by music and dancing in the evening. This event is usually the last Saturday in August.

Golf Outing The 34th Annual Chamber Golf Outing will be held Wednesday, September 18, at Twin Lakes Country Club. Play 18 holes

with a cart, lunch and buffet dinner included. Winners will be announced at dinner and raffle prize winners will be drawn.

Trees on Parade The first weekend in December finds Santa at St. John’s Community Center, surrounded by creatively decorated trees, a Gingerbread House Contest, and lots of vendors to start off your holiday shopping. This year’s theme is Christmas Sing-Along. Your votes will help to determine the winners of the Christmas Tree Contest, the Ugly Sweater Contest, and the Gingerbread Contest. We will have face painting for the kids, and Santa will visit for a few hours each day. Want to try your hand at decorating a tree or Gingerbread Creation? Contests are open to the public. Town of Randall Located in the Southwest corner of Kenosha County, surrounding Twin Lakes, the Town of Randall was formed when Kenosha County was created from a much larger Racine County in 1850. The boundaries were determined by splitting the Town of Wheatland in half. The town was named for the then-seated Governor, Alexander Randall. Today, the Town of Randall is home for about 3,315 residents. The Town Board of Randall meets on the second and fourth Thursday each month, at 6 p.m. at the Randall Town Hall, 34530 Bassett Rd., Bassett, WI. The Town Hall can be reached by calling 262-877-2165. Randall is home to the Kenosha County Veterans Memorial Park (formerly KD Park), and Warren Close Bark Park,

located at 35610 89th St., Twin Lakes. The dog park is part of Kenosha County Dog Parks and abides by the Kenosha Dog Park rules, available on their website. Veterans Memorial Park also offers hiking trails, fishing, picnicking, non-motorized watercraft, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. The Randall Fire Department, housed in two locations – Powers Lake and Bassett – has nearly 40 members. In addition to firefighters, Randall has a First Responder Unit, Cadet Squad, and Auxiliary. In operation since 1985, Randall Fire Department has two engines, a ladder, a tender, a grass rig, two utility pickup trucks and an off-road UTV. New members are always welcome. Lance Park, in downtown Twin Lakes, was built on land donated to the Village by the Lance Family around 1960. Located at 55 Lance Dr., the park contains basketball hoops, a beach and a boat launch (available to use for a fee). There is a fishing pier that is handicap accessible at the bottom of a downhill ramp. Lance Park is also the site of the Aquanut Water Ski Amphitheater. Boat launches are also available on Lake Elizabeth, at Lake Elizabeth Marina on Musial Rd. and at 3101 E. Lake Shore Dr. Legion Park, originally

owned by American Legion Post 544, is located at 989 Legion Dr. It contains a basketball court, baseball diamonds, skateboard park, playground equipment, pickleball courts, and restrooms. The American Legion Post building located on the premises is available to rent for occasions. Contact the American Legion Post 544 to reserve. Millennium Park, on Stateline Road and Richmond Park Drive, is Twin Lakes’ newest park, containing a soccer/football field, pavilion, walking trails, playground equipment, sledding hill, and a restroom.

Mueller Park, located off Sunset Court and Hunt Avenue, offers playground equipment and sledding. West Side Park, located off Spiegelhoff Road, contains a baseball diamond, basketball court, tennis courts, playground equipment, a place for sledding, and restrooms. Emergency services Twin Lakes Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad 236 E. Main St. Twin Lakes, WI 53181 Non-emergency • 262-877-2373 Emergency 911 www.twinlakesfire.com The Twin Lakes Fire Department goals are to respect and preserve life and property. The Twin Lakes Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1929 with a staff of more than 20 volunteers. The department was incorporated in 1941. The Twin Lakes Rescue Squad was formed in 1949. The all-volunteer department has 45 members with at least 40 of those active in one capacity or another. The members are certified in Fire Fighting, EMT or AEMT levels. Currently the department has daytime staffing to cover calls, while most of the members work other jobs. The department responds to an average of 160 fire calls per year and 1000 EMS calls per year, covering the Village of Twin Lakes, the Town of Randall, and the Town of

Wheatland. Trainings are completed each month on Tuesday evenings to keep skills sharp, and the General Meeting for members is the second Tuesday of each month. AEMTs and EMTs are required to re-certify with the state every three years to keep licenses current. The department uses and maintains nine vehicles, including a boat and newly purchased Polaris UTV. The department participates in National Night Out in August and Shop with a Hero in December. Members go to Lakewood School and Randall School to do Fire Prevention programs during Fire Prevention month in October. On the first Saturday in December, the department hosts Santa at the Fire Station from

The Twin Lakes Seniors Club is open to all seniors older than the age of 55. Members are from Twin Lakes and the surrounding areas, including northern Illinois. The club meets on the first and third Mondays of the month at Calvary United Church of Christ, 1511 Wilmot Ave., in Twin Lakes. The doors open at 10:30 a.m. for members to socialize, and coffee and cake are served at 11:30 a.m. Meetings begin at noon. The members play Bingo after the meetings until about 3 p.m. Monthly trips to casinos, plays, restaurants and more are taken from March through November. Dues are $10 per year, and trips are extra.
