Twin Lakes, Wisconsin
he Village of Twin Lakes is located in the Southeastern corner of Wisconsin in Kenosha County. Currently, Twin Lakes has a fulltime population of 6,041 and another one-third more of part time residents. Twin Lakes offers that small-town charm less than 70 miles from Chicago, Milwaukee and Kenosha. Its location offers quick, easy access to 2 international airports and interstate transportation. In Twin Lakes we have a saying: “close to everything, but away from it all”. With nearly 1000 acres of water the Twin Lakes, Mary and Elizabeth, make the area a popular destination offering swimming, boating, and fishing. Five major and several smaller parks offer beaches, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts, skateboarding, walking trails, baseball diamonds, soccer/ football field, sledding hills and pickleball. The Twin Lake Chamber Office is located in the red railroad depot replica next to the Caboose at 349 E. Main St. in downtown Twin Lakes. The railroad design pays homage to the history of the area. Large blocks of ice were harvested from the lakes and shipped via railroad to Chicago during the summer, before refrigeration became commonplace. The Chamber building was ready for use in June of 1998. The arrival, in June of 1999, of the Chicago Northwestern Caboose TL-699 was arranged for by resident and Chamber member Bill Porps. The Twin Lakes Area Chamber and Business Association proudly hosts several community events each year. The Second Annual WinterFest on Feb. 5 will include pond hockey, food and more winter activities. May will see a reimaging of the Village Wide Garage Sale. Rent a space and bring your no longer used items so they can become someone else’s treasures. Food and beverages will be provided by the Chamber. • CONTINUED ON PAGE 7

TWIN LAKES AREA Where Business & Community Come Together! The Twin Lakes Area Chamber and Business Association, Inc. was created in 1991 when two organizations, – the Twin Lakes Businessmen’s Association, established 1954 and the Twin Lakes Chamber of Commerce, established 1971 – were merged to better serve the community. In 1997, the Association expanded its services to surrounding communities not already covered by a Chamber or like organization. One of the goals of the Chamber is getting people together in a faceto-face setting to build business relationships and make new business contacts. Twin Lakes Area Chamber & Business Association, Inc. is a proud supporter of the Twin Lakes Chamber Foundation, Inc., which is dedicated to providing scholarships to high school seniors in the Twin Lakes area. Scholarship Applications are available from the guidance counselors and at the Chamber Office in March. Deadline to apply

The Libertyfest parade will be Saturday, July 2, at 11 a.m. Fireworks will be at dusk at Lance Park on Saturday, July 2, following an Aquanut Water Ski Show. The parade starts at St. John’s Church parking lot and ends at Lance Park as usual. Get out on the links July 27 for the Annual Chamber Golf Outing. Enjoy a day of golf, have lunch, compete for prizes, then end the evening with the Ball toss and great dinner. Cornfest returns Aug. 18, 19 and 20 with plenty of Corn on the Cob, Water Ski contests and more. As the summer comes to a close, Business in the Park and Car Show will be combined with Harvest Fest Sept. 17, in the parking lot by the Chamber office. Harvest Fest will feature the Car Show, entertainment, raffles, kid’s games, Beer Stein Holding Contest, Food Trucks, Hay Rides and more to help the chamber continue to support community events, education, local charities and community projects.
Trees on Parade and Holiday Shopping on Dec. 2 and 3 kicks off the holiday season with Santa’s Workshop for the theme. The Decorated Christmas Tree, Gingerbread and Ugly Sweater Contests are all open to the public. Start planning your decorated tree, ugly sweater and gingerbread creations now! HISTORY OF In 1833 after the Native American Indians were moved to reservations, settlers Jonathan Imeson and his wife, Mary Wray, the daughter of another settler Thomas Wray, staked a claim in an area later known as English Prairie on the southern tip of Lake Elizabeth. Their twin daughters, Mary and Elizabeth, were the first twins born on the Prairie. The lakes, formerly called Nippersink Lakes, were named after the twin girls and soon the area became known as Twin Lakes. In 1859 the railroad laid tracks on the north side of Lake Mary. By 1880 a depot was built. Ice harvesting, farmers and weekend getaways bringing people to Twin Lakes was a key factor in the development of the town. Haegles’ ice house was started on Lake Elizabeth in the late 1850s and more soon followed. Ice was harvested in large blocks and stored for use in the summer. Ice was sent by rails to Chicago to keep food and beverages cool during the summer months before refrigeration became commonplace. The railroad allowed farmers to ship food and milk to the city and brought mail, Richter’s IGA on Main Street

people and supplies to Twin Lakes. The first hotel, the Ackerman, was erected in the 1870s. Estates, resorts, taverns and The Twin Lakes Ballroom, the largest ballroom in Wisconsin, made Twin Lakes a vacation destination by the turn of the century. The Twin Lakes Ballroom, later called the Wonder Bar was special because most of the Big Bands played there. Glen Miller, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Dorothy Lamour and the Andrew Sisters all performed in the Ballroom. Lawrence Welk and his new wife, Fern, lived in a little room in the Twin Lakes Ballroom for the summer of 1931 when they came to Twin Lakes with a new band. “Fever Lake,” a scary movie starring Mario
Mary Wray, a native of England, was born June 15, 1816. She came to America in 1833 and resided in what was to become known as “English Prairie.” In 1837 she was married to Jonathan Imeson, also an early settler on the prairie. Their son Robert was the firstborn son in the county. There were eight children in all, including the first set of twins born on the prairie. The girls were baptized Mary and Elizabeth. Both lakes were named after these girls.
Lopez, Corey Haim and Bo Hopkins, was filmed in Twin Lakes in 1996. By 1937, Twin Lakes was incorporated as a village, formed its own government and became a year-round community. Restaurants, gas stations and stores were established as the village began to grow. The last train came through Twin Lakes on May 31, 1939, marking the end of an era. Today the village has grown to a population of more than 6,000 full-time and about one-third more part-time residents. WWW.TWINLAKESCHAMBER.COM

The Twin Lakes Area Chamber & Business Association will be selling raffle tickets to help fund the annual fireworks display. Because of Raffle Regulations, we cannot hold the Reverse Raffle as we have in the past. So this year we will be selling more tickets at a lower price. The drawing is at 7 p.m. at Lance Park before the fireworks. Tickets are available from the Chamber Office, Board Members and local businesses after Feb. 1st. Raffle is open to the public.
The 32nd Annual Chamber Golf outing will be held Wednesday, July 27th, at Twin Lakes Country Club. Play 18 holes with a cart, lunch and dinner included. Winners will be announced at dinner and raffle prize winners will be drawn.
LIBERTYFEST Celebrate our country’s Independence at Liberytfest July 2nd in Twin Lakes. Festivities begin Saturday morning at 11 a.m. with the Annual Parade from St. John’s to Lance Park. Be at Lance Park at 4 p.m. for DJ music before and after the Aquanut Water Ski Show. Fireworks will be at dusk. Food and beverages will be available at the park until the fireworks. Lance Park is located on beautiful Lake Mary. Central Park is on Main Street by the Caboose.

Lance Park downtown Twin Lakes was built on land donated to the Village by the Lance Family around 1960. Located at 55 Lance Dr., the park contains basketball hoops, beach and Boat Launch. The boat launch is available for a fee. There is a fishing pier that is Handicap Accessible at the bottom of a downhill ramp. Lance Park is the sight of the Aquanut Water Ski Amphitheater with a small stage. Boat launches are also available on Lake Elizabeth at Lake Elizabeth Marina and on Musial Rd. Legion Park originally owned by American Legion Post 544 is located at 989 Legion Dr. It contains a basketball court, baseball diamonds, skateboard park and playground equipment and restrooms.
Pickleball has now been added at Legion Park. The American Legion Post building located on the premises is available to rent for occasions. Contact the American Legion Post 544 to reserve. The Village of Twin Lakes was incorporated in 1937. The present Village Hall location was built in 1910 with additions in 1949 and 1976. The new Village Hall is scheduled for completion early in 2022. The Village is run by a council-manager form of government, consisting of a 7-member board (one elected as Village President) and a
Village Administrator. The council-manager system combines the strong political leadership of elected officials with the strong managerial experience of an appointed local government manager. The Village is comprised of eight major departments at four facilities offering services to meet the needs of our residents. The current Village President is Howard Skinner. Located in the Southwest corner of Kenosha County, surrounding Twin Lakes, the Town of Randall was formed when Kenosha County was created from a much larger Racine County in 1850. The boundaries were determined by splitting the Town of Wheatland in half. The town was named for the thenseated Gov. Alexander Randall. Today the Town of Randall is home for about 3,184 residents. The Town Board of Randall meets on the second and fourth Thursday each month at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall, 34530 Bassett Rd., Bassett. Town Hall can be reached at 262-877-2165. Randall is home to the Warren Close Bark Park located at KD Park, 35610 89th St., Twin Lakes. The dog park, is
part of Kenosha County Dog Parks, is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and abides by the Kenosha Dog Park rules, available on their website. KD Park also includes hiking trails, fishing and swimming. The Randall Fire Department is housed in two locations – Powers Lake and Bassett – has nearly 40 members. In addition to Firefighters, Randall has a First Responder Unit, Cadet Squad and Auxiliary. In operation since 1985, Randall Fire Department has two Engines, a Ladder, a Tender, a Grass Rig and two Utility Pickup trucks and an Off Road UTV. Randall Fire Department hosts an annual Easter Egg Hunt, Craft Fair and Breakfast with Santa. New members are always welcome.

The Twin Lakes Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1929 with a staff of more than 20 volunteers. The department was incorporated in 1941. The Twin Lakes Rescue Squad was formed in 1949. The all-volunteer department has 57 members with at least 50 of those active in one capacity or another. The Members are certified in Fire Fighting, EMT or EMT IV Tech level. Now licensed as EMT’s or Advanced EMT’s, the department responds to an average of 160 fire calls per year and 800 EMS calls per year covering the Village of Twin Lakes and a portion of Randall and Wheatland. The department has a clergy member on staff who is also an Advanced EMT. Call the non-emergency number and leave a message if you need a free smoke detector. The
smoke detectors were donated by the local VFW chapter. The department uses and maintains eight vehicles. The current Fire Chief is Stan Clause Jr. The department participates in National Night Out in August and Shop with a Hero in December. Members go to Lakewood and Randall School to do Fire Prevention programs during Fire Prevention month in October. The first Saturday in December the department hosts Santa at the Fire Station from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and gives Santa a ride from the Village Tree Lighting Ceremony in the park to Trees on Parade. TWIN LAKES
The Twin Lakes Seniors Club is open to all seniors older than 55. The club meets on the first and third Monday of the month at Calvary United Church of Christ, 1511 Wilmot Ave. in Twin Lakes. Members are from Twin Lakes and the surrounding areas including northern Illinois. Seniors arrive early (doors open at 10:30 a.m.) to socialize and have coffee and cake at 11:30 a.m.

Established in 1937, The Twin Lakes Police Department provides law enforcement services to the Village of Twin Lakes 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The police department employs nine full-time Patrol Officers, one Detective, two Patrol Sergeants, one Captain, and is led by Police Chief Adam Grosz. Five part-time Police Officers and a part-time seasonal water patrol staff also assist the department with providing year-round services to the community. The Village also maintains a 24hour dispatch center located at police headquarters. Five full-time and four parttime dispatchers handle radio, paging, and telephone communications for the Twin Lakes Police, Fire, and EMS Departments. In addition to emergency services, the police department hosts community events such as National Night Out the first Tuesday
in August and coordinates Shop with a Hero each December before Christmas. These are two events where Twin Lakes Police Officers give back to the community. They serve by helping those in need and interacting with our citizens. The police department lobby is open to the public 24 hours a day and staff is always onsite. There is a prescription medication drop-off box located in the lobby for citizens to drop off any expired or unused prescription medication. Just a few of the other services available at the police department include fingerprinting, department tours, a safe exchange area, and vehicle lock-outs.
