Twin Lakes, Wisconsin
he Village of Twin Lakes is located in the Southeastern corner of Wisconsin in Kenosha County. Currently, Twin Lakes has a fulltime population of 6,041 and another one-third more of part-time residents. Twin Lakes offers that small-town charm less than 70 miles from Chicago, Milwaukee and Kenosha. Its location offers quick, easy access to two international airports and interstate transportation. In Twin Lakes we have a saying, “Close to everything, but away from it all.” With nearly 1,000 acres of water the Twin Lakes - Mary and Elizabeth - make the area a popular destination offering swimming, boating, and fishing. Five major and several smaller parks offer beaches, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts, skateboarding, walking trails, baseball diamonds, soccer/football field, sledding hills and pickleball. The Twin Lake Chamber Office is located in the red railroad depot replica next to the Caboose at 349 E. Main St. in downtown Twin Lakes. The railroad design pays homage to the history of the area. Large blocks of ice were harvested from the lakes and ship via railroad to Chicago during the summer, before refrigeration became commonplace. The Chamber building was ready for use in June of 1998. The arrival, in June of 1999, of the Chicago Northwestern Caboose TL-699 was arranged for by resident and Chamber member Bill Porps. The Twin Lakes Area Chamber & Business Association proudly hosts several community events each year. May will see a reimaging of the Village Wide Garage Sale. Rent a space and bring your no longer used items so they can become someone else’s treasures. Food and beverages will be provided by the Chamber. The Libertyfest parade will be Saturday, July 3, at 11 a.m. Fireworks will be at dusk at Lance Park on Saturday, July 3, following an Aquanut Water Ski Show. The parade starts at St. John’s Church parking lot and
ends at Lance Park as usual. Get out on the links July 22 for the Annual Chamber Golf Outing. Enjoy a day of golf, have lunch, compete for prizes, then end the evening with the ball toss and great a

Looking forward to a brighter year 2020 was a very tough year for many but we made it through together. Sharing the love, support and compassion between everyone made our bond tighter thanks to everyone’s commitment and hard work. The Twin Lakes and surrounding communities are one and we have proven that. As we say goodbye to 2020, we also welcome the new year. It is unfortunate that the pandemic caused us to cancel some of our annual events, but we took the chance on a few new
ones that brought our businesses and residents together. The new events were a success and we look forward to bringing them back in 2021. I have lived in this community for more than 30 years, I work in the community, and love to volunteer and be a part of the community. Thank you all for coming together to help get everyone through a very hard time. We all have a lot going on in our lives but doing what we did together makes the reward so much better. When I see the smiles, hear the laughter, feel the love and see the unity, together we will continue to make this a great place to live. Twin Lakes Area Where Business and Community Come Together! he Twin Lakes Area Chamber and Business Association, Inc. was created in 1991 when two organizations, the Twin Lakes Businessmen’s Association, established 1954 and the Twin Lakes Chamber of Commerce, established 1971 were merged to better serve the community. In 1997, the Association expanded its services to surrounding communities not already covered by a Chamber or like organization. One of the goals of the Chamber is getting people together in a face-to-face setting to build business relationships and make new business contacts. Twin Lakes Area Chamber & Business Association, Inc. is a proud supporter of the Twin Lakes Chamber Foundation, Inc. dedicated to providing scholarships to high school seniors in the Twin Lakes area. Scholarship Applications are available from the guidance counselors and at the Chamber Office in March. Deadline to apply is

History of In 1833 after the Native American Indians were moved to reservations, settlers Jonathan Imeson and his wife Mary Wray staked a claim in and area later known as English Prairie on the southern tip of Lake Elizabeth. The couple would have eight children. Their son, Robert, was the first child born in the county and their twin daughters Mary and Elizabeth were the first twins born on the Prairie. The lakes, formerly called Nippersink Lake, were named after the twin girls and soon the area was referred to as Twin Lakes. The railroad was a key factor in the development of Twin Lakes. The biggest customers of the railroad were the ice houses and farmers. Haegles’ ice house was started on Lake Elizabeth in the late 1850s and several more soon followed. Ice was harvested in large blocks and stored for use in the summer. It was then sent by rails to Chicago to keep food and beverages cool during the hot summer months before refrigeration became commonplace. The railroad allowed farmers to ship food and milk to the city and mail,

people and supplies to get to Twin Lakes. By the 1880s a depot was erected just a short distance from Lake Mary near the center of the Village. Estates, resorts, taverns and The Twin Lakes Ballroom, the largest ballroom in Wisconsin, made Twin Lakes a vacation destination by the turn of the century. The Twin Lakes Ballroom, later called the Wonder Bar was special because most of the Big Bands played there. Glen Miller, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Dorothy Lamour and the Andrew Sisters all performed in the Ballroom. Lawrence Welk and his new wife, Fern, lived in a little room in the Twin Lakes Ballroom for the summer of 1931 when they came to Twin Lakes with a new band. “Fever Lake,” a scary movie starring Mario Lopez, Corey
Mary Wray, a native of England, was born June 15, 1816. She came to America in 1833 and resided in what was to become known as “English Prairie.” In 1837 she was married to Jonathan Imeson, also an early settler on the prairie. Their son Robert was the firstborn son in the county. There were eight children in all, including the first set of twins born on the prairie. The girls were baptized Mary and Elizabeth. Both lakes were named after these girls.
Haim and Bo Hopkins was filmed in Twin Lakes in 1996. By 1937, Twin Lakes was incorporated as a village, formed its own government and became a year round community. Restaurants, gas stations and stores were established as the village began to grow. Today the Village has grown to a population over 6000 full time and about one-third more part-time residents. The last train came through Twin Lakes on May 31, 1939, marking the end of an era.

As the summer comes to a close, Business in the Park, Aug. 28, offers Business Booths, the 8th Annual Car Show, craft &and retail vendors, a brat/ hot dog lunch and children’s area. The fun continues at the Village Block Party, hosted by Main St. Tap and Village View Pub, with live entertainment and good food available on Main St. The 4th Annual Scarecrow contest will be included with Harvest Fest, Sept. 25 in the parking lot by the Chamber office. Harvest Fest will feature entertainment, silent auctions, raffles, kids’ games, Beer Stein Holding Contest, Food Trucks, Hay Rides and more to help the chamber continue to support community events, education, local charities and community projects. Trees on Parade and Holiday Shopping on Dec. 3 and 4 kicks off the holiday season with a Disney
theme. The Decorated Christmas Tree, Gingerbread and Ugly Sweater Contests are all open to the public. Start planning your decorated tree, ugly sweater and gingerbread creations now! Kickoff your holiday shopping or gift yourself at the craft and vendor sale. Don’t miss Santa. Dec. 3 the Chamber will host the annual Village Tree Lighting in the park by the caboose. Events BIG BANG RAFFLE Time to start thinking about warm summer days and the Independence Day Fireworks. From Feb. 1 to July 3 the Twin Lakes Area Chamber & Business Association will be selling raffle tickets to help fund the annual fireworks display. The drawing is held at 7 p.m. at Lance Park before the fireworks. Tickets are available from the Chamber Office, Board Members and local businesses after Feb. 1. Raffle is open to the public.
LIBERTYFEST Celebrate our country’s Independence at Liberytfest July 3 in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin. Festivities begin Saturday morning at 11 a.m. with the Annual Parade from St. John’s to Lance Park. Hot dogs and fun activities in Central Park by the Caboose after the Parade until 2 p.m. Be at Lance Park at 4 p.m. for DJ music before and after the Aquanut Water Ski Show. Fireworks will be at dusk. Food and beverages will be available at the park. Lance Park is located on beautiful Lake Mary. Central Park is on Main Street by the Caboose.
GOLF OUTING The 31st Annual Chamber Golf outing will be held Wednesday, July 28, at Twin Lakes Country Club. Play 18 holes with a cart, lunch and steak dinner included. Winners will be announced at dinner and raffle prize winners will be drawn.

The present Village Hall location was built in 1910 with additions in 1949 and 1976. Town of Randall L
ocated in the Southwest corner of Kenosha County, surrounding Twin Lakes, the Town of Randall was formed when Kenosha County was created from a much larger Racine County in 1850. The boundaries were determined by splitting the Town of Wheatland in half. The town was named for the then seated governor, Alexander Randall. Today the Town of Randall is home for about 3,184 residents. The Town Board of Randall meets on the second and fourth Thursday each month at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall, 34530 Bassett Road, Bassett, Wisconsin, phone 262877-2165. Randall is home to the Warren Close Bark Park located at KD Park, 35610
89th St., Twin Lakes. The Dog park, is part of Kenosha County Dog Parks, is open 7am-10pm and abides by the Kenosha Dog Park rules, available on their website. KD Park also included hiking trails, fishing and swimming. Randall Fire Department housed in two locations, Powers Lake and Bassett, and has nearly 40 members. In addition to firefighters, Randall has a First Responder Unit, Cadet Squad and Auxiliary. In operation since 1985, Randall Fire Department has two engines, a ladder, a tender, a grass rig and two utility pickup trucks and an off-road UTV. Randall Fire Department hosts an annual Easter Egg Hunt, Craft Fair and Breakfast with Santa. New members are always welcome.

Established in 1937, The Twin Lakes Police Department provides law enforcement services to the Village of Twin Lakes 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The police department employs nine full-time Patrol Officers, one Detective, two Patrol Sergeants, one Captain, and is led by Police Chief Adam Grosz. Five part-time
Police Officers and a part-time seasonal water patrol staff also assists the department with providing year-round services to the community. The Village also maintains a 24hour dispatch center located at police headquarters. Five full-time and four parttime dispatchers handle radio, paging, and telephone communications for the Twin Lakes Police, Fire, and EMS Departments. In addition to emergency services, the police department hosts community events such as National Night Out the first Tuesday in August and coordinates Shop with a Hero each December before Christmas. Seniors Club
W
hile the Senior Club has not been able to meet for most of 2020, they are looking forward to being able to meet again soon in 2021. Twin Lakes Seniors Club is open to all seniors older than 55. The club meets on the first and third Mondays of the month at Calvary United Church of Christ, 1511 Wilmot Ave. in Twin Lakes. Members are from Twin Lakes and the surrounding areas including
northern Illinois. Seniors arrive early to socialize and have coffee and cake with the meeting beginning at noon. The members play bingo after the meetings. Monthly trips to casinos, plays, restaurants and more are taken from March through November. Dues are $10 per year; trips are extra. a CONTINUED FROM PAGE 23 are two events where Twin Lakes Police Officers give back to the community they serve by helping those in need and interacting with our citizens. The Police Department lobby is open to the public 24 hours a day and staff is always on site. There is a prescription medication drop-off box located in the lobby for citizens to drop off any expired or unused prescription medication. Just a few of the other services available at the police department include fingerprinting, department tours, a safe exchange area, and vehicle lock-outs. The highly trained, professional staff of the Twin Lakes Police Department are always ready to serve and assist the citizens and visitors of Twin Lakes in any way we can.
The Twin Lakes Rescue Squad was formed in 1949. The all-volunteer department has 57 members with at least 50 of those active in one capacity or another. The current Fire Chief is Stan Clause Jr. The department uses and maintains nine vehicles, three of which are ambulances and a boat. Thanks to the Village of Twin Lakes, the department took possession of a new Pierce Engine this year replacing the 1993 Darley Engine. Now licensed as EMTs or Advanced EMTs, the department responds to an average of 160 fire calls per year and 900 EMS calls per year, covering Twin Lakes and all of Randall and Wheatland. The department participates in National Night Out in August and Shop TWIN LAKES VOLUNTEER with a Hero in December.
