Lakes Region Historical Society Museum The Museum is located inside Antioch’s Second School, located at 817 Main Street. This building was in continuous use as a grade school from 1892 to 1971. It also included the first two years of high school education. The renovation and museum construction were completed with contributions and volunteer labor. The Museum was dedicated and officially opened on July 18, 1987. We welcome donations of artifacts from Antioch and the Chain O’Lakes Region to add to our collection. Private Tours are available for clubs and small groups by appointment. Admission is free, donations are gratefully accepted. Open every Saturday March through December from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The museum is located on Route 83 in downtown Antioch.

New Fun for Antioch’s Craft Faires In 2018, Antioch has enhanced our 2 outdoor Arts & Crafts Faires to be a one day event which is combined with other popular events that will all be held on the same day! One day AC Faires will be enjoyed

on Saturday, June 16, along with Antioch’s popular Wizards Weekend Day, plus on Saturday, Oct. 20, along with Antioch’s fun Treat the Street and Monster Bash! Plan on visiting both events on Saturday… more fun and more shopping all combined in one day! Antioch’s Summer Arts & Crafts Faire will be held on Saturday, June 16 … one day packed with arts and crafts along with Wizarding Fun for the whole family! Artisans (both muggle and wizard) travel from around the country to participate in the Summer Arts and Crafts. This popular Faire has been in Downtown Antioch for more than 30 years. Antioch’s Fall AC Faire will be held on Saturday, October 20th to celebrate the season with Treat the Streets, the Great Antioch Pumpkin Roll, Wiener Races, and the Monster Bash! Kringle’s Holiday Magic in Antioch Christmas Village

Fall and Winter in Antioch are magical times. Antioch ushers in the seasons in November with Antioch’s growing Public Art Program – Dickens’ Holiday Village. Experience the ambiance of the Dickens Era as you take a Dickens Tour or stroll about and learn more about life in that time long ago. Dickens Scenes are placed outdoors in Downtown Antioch beginning Thanksgiving Day thru New Year’s Day. Dickens Holiday Village is a volunteer program hosted by the Antioch Chamber. If you are interested in being a Dickens Volunteer, please contact the Chamber and learn how you can be part of this exciting, growing program. Each year, more Dickens Character are crafted by our Volunteers for your enjoyment. Tours are available for large groups or you can pick up a Walking Brochure at our Dickens Welcome Center for a self-guided Tour. Dickens Holiday Village will be on full display on the sidewalks of downtown Antioch 24/7, plus additional Dickens fun will be planned for the family!

Antioch is proud to host Kringle’s Christmas Village in Downtown Antioch beginning Thanksgiving Day through New Year’s Day (noon to 8:30 p.m.) in 2018. You’ll enjoy dozens of animated holiday shadowboxes throughout the downtown. These miniature scenes might sound small, but most are 6-feet big! Take your own tour around Antioch’s downtown and enjoy this magical event daily (noon to 8:30 p.m.). The Antioch Chamber welcomes Dee from Zion as our Chief Kringle Ambassador. Dee made it possible for the Antioch Community to receive and enjoy this very special holiday event. Watch for more event information on Kringle’s Christmas Village enhancements in 2018.

Santa Arrives!

Welcome Santa and the Christmas Season to town at the old-fashioned Holiday Parade sponsored by the Village of Antioch. The

parade takes place on Friday, Nov. 23 on Main Street between Park Avenue and Depot Street traveling North. Immediately following the Christmas Parade, is the Tree Lighting Ceremony in front of Village Hall. Here you’ll enjoy old-fashioned caroling by the Antioch Community High School Chorus. The Antioch Fire Department hands out free cookies and hot chocolate. Community Officials welcome everyone and then the countdown to the lighting of the official community tree happens. Santa also has a mailbox right here in Antioch! He loves to receive letters from all the wonderful children of the Community. Make sure to include your return address so Santa can send his reply. Drop your letters in the mailbox which is located outside of Santa’s Frozen Village, 882 Main St., or you can send your letter to: Santa Claus, c/o Antioch Parks Department, 806 Holbek Drive, Antioch, IL 60002. After enjoying your magical evening filled with the Holiday Parade followed by the Village of Antioch’s official Tree Lighting Ceremony, make sure to save time for Santa! Santa officially opens Santa’s Frozen Village after the Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony! The next day, Saturday, Santa welcomes his Frozen Friends to Santa’s FROZEN Village for visits with the children. Santa’s Frozen Village features some of Santa’s Frozen Friends on select days. Santa visits are free Mondays through Fridays nights from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Bring a camera and take as many photos as you’d like or ask a Santa Helper to take a photo for you for a $5 donation. On weekends, Santa’s Frozen Village includes Santa’s Frozen Friends, plus presents for the kids! There is a $5 per person donation at the door (ages 1 to 99) on weekends. All the children receive presents; the adults receive years of lasting memories when seeing their little ones enjoying their visits with Santa and his Frozen Friends. WizardsEvent Weekend returns for another run! set for Saturday, June 16 Wizards, Witches and Muggles alike will gather in Downtown Antioch, Illinois, for their second annual Wizards Weekend Day on Saturday, June 16. Join us to celebrate all things of a magical nature, bring your owl (just kidding), your wand (or smartwand), and dress as the character you most closely relate to. Be ready for Wizard fun all day long! Begin your Magical Day by picking up a Marauders Map at the Ministry of Magic Information Booth, complete with schedules and wizard shops, etc. can be found at the Wizards and Muggles Craft Faire, downtown Antioch, intersection of Main and Orchard streets. Contests, games, and more magical moments are being conjured at Antiochâ€™s Wizards Weekend Day. Be part of this magical world of Harry Potter and all things magical. Antioch will transform itself with the swish of a wand (and the help of magical volunteers) to bring a day of magical fun to all

Wizards Banquet A Wizards Banquet will be held that night at the Antioch VFW Hall on North Avenue for ages 5 years to 99 years! Wizards, Witches and Muggles (hopefully no Deatheaters) will enjoy a Wizards Dinner, Wizards Photo Ops, a Keepsake Wizards Item and other Magical Fun at the Great Banquet Hall. Only 200 tickets will be sold. Advance registration is required. Adult (13 years old and older) tickets are $40 per person, children’s (age 5-12) tickets are $35, please register online at antiochchamber.org.

WATER FUN ABOUNDS ON THE

The 7,200 acre Fox Chain O’Lakes are the largest, single, inland, water-oriented, recreational asset in Northeastern Illinois. Located about 40 miles northwest of Chicago on Illinois Routes 173 and 12, near the towns of Antioch and Fox Lake. According to a survey taken by the U.S. Coast Guard, weekend usage on the Chain hits about 60,000 people on average and on holidays that figure rises to 100,000 people. Easy access to the major cities of Chicago and Milwaukee has added to the importance of the Chain. In addition to its hotels, motels and resorts with cottages in the immediate marina area, there are also many marinas, restaurants, pubs, bait and tackle stores and recreational lakefronts.

The future of the Chain is being monitored by the Illinois Department of Conservation. They have recently expanded both the walleye and muskellunge populations throughout the Chain. The Fox Chain provides the best place to go fishing in Northern Illinois, with more than 40 species of fish in sizes and numbers desirable and sought-after by anglers. Since the Chain O’Lakes is classified as a public navigable waterway and is managed under the authority of the Department of Transportation, Division of Waterways, The Fox Waterway Agency, Department of Conservation and Division of Fisheries, all state boating, hunting and fishing regulations are applicable and

enforced. Make your trip a fun one by understanding the sport of fishing and the types of bait and tackle to use, when, where and how. As the old saying goes, “Ten percent of the fishermen catch ninety percent of the fish.” Safety should be a number one concern when on the Chain (or any other body of water). Make sure all your equipment is in working order. Do not overload your boat or run it at high speeds in unfamiliar areas. Be courteous to everyone around you and give assistance where needed.
