Now in its 55th year, the Georgia Apple Festival returns to the Ellijay Lions Club fairgrounds across two full weekends in October, with more than 250 vendors bringing handmade goods, festival food, and apple-inspired treats from across the Southeast. It’s a big festival that has managed to hold onto a small-town feel, and that balance is a large part of why it keeps drawing people back year after year.
The festival draws approximately 55,000 visitors from across the Southeast, and the weekends fill up fast in every direction. If you’re planning to be in the mountains for October, the cabin you want and the weekend you want rarely last long once fall booking season opens. Plan accordingly, and give yourself enough time to do it all.
The vendor lineup is juried, meaning everything on the fairgrounds is handmade or handcrafted by the artist selling it. That’s a detail worth noticing when you’re walking the grounds and wondering how the quality stays so consistent from booth to booth. Plan for more time than you think you’ll need. Running on the same dates, the Apple Arts Festival brings the celebration into downtown Ellijay itself, adding vendors, food, and fall energy to the shops and restaurants already lining the streets. It’s free to attend and pet-friendly, making it a natural second act for a full festival day or a good place to start before the fairgrounds open. The orchards are the quieter part of the weekend that often ends up being the most memorable. Several of Gilmer County’s working apple farms open for pickyour-own and farm stand sales throughout October, and the drive between them on winding mountain roads is worth building 4 THE COMFORT COLLECTIVE

Three Bedrooms The West Nest sleeps eight across three bedrooms, with the layout split between the entry and upper levels for natural separation. The upper-level king suite is the standout, with a private bathroom featuring a double vanity and tile shower, a dresser and closet, and a 50” streaming TV. A full and twin bunk room on the same level sleeps four across a full bed and a twin-over-twin bunk set, with a dresser, closet, and its own 50” streaming TV. On the entry level, a queen bedroom offers a quiet private retreat with a workspace, dresser, closet, and 50” streaming TV, with access to the shared full bathroom just down the hall. The back porch off the entry level puts a hot tub for six and a gas grill within easy reach of the main living area, making it as natural to step outside after dinner as it is to stay in. Two outdoor chairs and an end table on the front porch offer a quieter spot for a slow morning coffee. Upstairs, the upper-level deck adds outdoor sofa seating with a footrest and end table, a good perch for taking in the surrounding tree canopy from a different angle. A gas fire pit with Adirondack chairs on the grounds rounds out the outdoor options for evenings that call for something a little more open. Coosawattee River Resort The West Nest sits inside Coosawattee River Resort, a gated mountain community along the Coosawattee River in Ellijay, Georgia.
