Talking Rock, Georgia, completed
a two-bedroom creekside retreat in within the last year and set inside a gated 11,000-acre community where Talking Rock Creek runs past the property. Designed for up to four guests, the home offers two king suites on separate levels, a lower-level sports bar game room with ping-pong and Bose surround sound, two levels of deck seating above the water, and a manicured walking trail down to the creek with tubing access nearby. It is one of the more genuinely secluded properties in the Southern Comfort Cabin Rentals Collective.

A FALL DAY IN ELLIJAY An October weekend at Meet Me At The Creek leaves room for a day in town. Ellijay, the Gilmer County seat, sits in the middle of Georgia apple country, and October is the month the orchards are at their busiest.
Begin on the Square
Start with coffee at Das Kaffee Haus on North Main Street, just off the Ellijay square. The shop serves European-style coffee and pastries, a slow way to open a day that has no itinerary attached to it. From there, give the square the time it deserves. Downtown Ellijay keeps its locally owned shops within a few blocks of each other, which makes it easy for each person to pick their own stop rather than moving the whole group through every door together. When lunchtime arrives, Cantaberry on the south side of the square is a downtown café known for soups, sandwiches, and desserts.
An Afternoon in the Orchards
If the weekend falls on October 10 and 11 or October 17 and 18, the Georgia Apple Festival is on at the Ellijay Lions Club Fairgrounds on South Main Street. The juried arts and crafts show runs Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., admission is $10, and children 12 and under get in free.
An Evening Back at the Creek
Back at Meet Me At The Creek, the grocery bags and the apples can wait on the counter while everyone finds their place for the evening. Someone gets the fire going in the living room, someone else claims a stool at the card table, and the last of the daylight goes to the deck above Talking Rock Creek. Set out what the orchard run turned up and let the evening move at its own speed. There is no reservation to keep and no reason to hurry, and the creek is already handling the soundtrack.
The orchards sit east of town along Highway 52, and October is when they are at full swing. BJ Reece Orchards at 9131 Highway 52 East is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., with u-pick rows and a farm market. Hillcrest Orchards, a short drive farther east at 9696 Highway 52 East, also runs u-pick apples in October, open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Pick a bag for the week, and let the farm market handle the cider and anything else that will not survive the drive home without being eaten. The gas fireplace takes the chill off slow mornings, and the deck door stays within reach for the first coffee run of the day, when the water is the only sound in the house. Designed for Gathering The kitchen sits open to the living room, so whoever is cooking stays part of the conversation instead of closed off in a separate room. The dining table seats four, the whole group at this cabin, and the setting keeps that classic cabin feel of meals nobody rushes. RESTFUL BEDROOMS AND PRIVATE RETREATS Sharing a cabin with another couple only works when everyone gets a door that closes. Meet Me At The Creek puts its two king bedrooms on separate levels, so early risers and night owls never have to cross paths unless they want to. The upper-level suite is the one to claim first. The private balcony opens straight over Talking Rock Creek, and morning coffee up there comes with the water running below. Someone claims the pingpong table before the cards are dealt, the Bose system carries the game, and the deck door lets the sound of the creek up from below. Outdoor Living The trail down to the creek is the walk everyone makes twice. Two levels of deck hold the meals and the rocking chairs, and the walking path puts the water a few steps below the house. Guests can enjoy: • Entry-level deck with 2 dining tables seating 8, 4 rocking chairs, and glider loveseat seating • Lower-level deck with outdoor dining for 4, 2-person rocking bench, 2 accent chairs, gas grill, and outdoor shower with hot and cold water • Manicured walking trail down to Talking Rock Creek • Community tubing access nearby. Put in at the Trout Lodge public creek front and float approximately 45 minutes to an hour back to the cabin.

A Setting Built Around the Creek Meet Me At The Creek sits inside an 11,000-acre gated community in Talking Rock with paved roads throughout and no neighbors within 500 yards in any direction. Community amenities include a 3-foot depth swimming pool three minutes from the property and tennis courts, and the public creek access point behind Trout Lodge, five minutes by car, gives guests a genuine tubing run on one of North Georgia's most beloved creeks. This is a property for guests who want to be away from it all. The closest town for groceries is approximately 25 minutes out.
