Mountaintown Creek Lodge has been a guest favorite since it joined the Southern Comfort portfolio, and this issue gives it the introduction it deserves. Six bedrooms, six full bathrooms, three acres along Mountaintown Creek, and enough indoor and outdoor space to keep a group of seventeen comfortable, entertained, and genuinely reluctant to leave. This is a property built around the creek. Everything else, the fire pit, the swings, the stone pathway, the screened deck with the hot tub, is arranged around that sound and that access. Once you’ve spent an evening at the water’s edge, the rest of the stay feels like a bonus.

GET READY FOR FALL IN THE MOUNTAINS North Georgia is particularly good at making fall feel like an occasion. A cool morning might begin with coffee on the cabin porch and turn into a drive along a mountain road simply because the leaves look especially good in that direction. A stop for apples becomes lunch in town. One vineyard leads to another, and before long, you’re watching the late-afternoon sun settle over rows of vines with nowhere else you particularly need to be. That’s the beauty of autumn in the mountains. The weather invites you outside, the scenery rewards the long way around, and some of the best days are the ones with plenty of room for a change of plans.
Take the Scenic Route
In fall, getting there is half the fun. Around Blue Ridge, mountain roads wind beneath canopies of copper, gold, and deep red, with stretches along Aska Road and the Toccoa River offering plenty of reasons to slow down. Head toward the Aska Adventure Area for a hike, stop beside the river, or simply keep driving until a view convinces you to pull over. Big Canoe offers a different kind of fall scenery. Tucked into the mountains between Jasper and Dawsonville, the community is surrounded by hardwood forests that put on a spectacular show as temperatures begin to cool. Lakes, mountain views, and wooded roads make even an afternoon with no particular destination feel well spent.

Visit Mercier Orchards
Fall in Blue Ridge has a flavor, and there’s a good chance it tastes like an apple cider doughnut. Mercier Orchards has been part of the Blue Ridge story for generations, and autumn is when this beloved family orchard feels especially at home. Rows of apple trees stretch toward the mountains, the market fills with the scent of fresh-baked treats, and baskets of just-picked apples make their way into cars headed back to cabins all over town. Give yourself time to enjoy it. Depending on the season and what’s available, pick apples in the orchard, browse the market for local goods, and leave room for cider, a fried pie, or something warm from the bakery. Stock up on a few favorites for the cabin, too—fresh apples have a way of becoming tomorrow morning’s porch snack or that evening’s dessert. Mercier Orchards

Room for Everyone Mountaintown Creek Lodge sleeps seventeen across six bedrooms spread across three levels, giving couples, families, and mixed groups genuine separation at the end of the day. The entry-level primary king suite is the standout, with a 75” TV, Sonos surround sound, deck access, and a private bathroom, and separate shower and tub. A guest queen bedroom on the same level includes its own private bath. Upstairs, the bunk bedroom sleeps four with gaming hookups, a 75” TV, and sofa seating, alongside a guest bedroom with a queen and twin bed. On the lower level, a double queen bedroom with a daybed and a king suite with patio access each include private bathrooms. A pool table, wet bar, sofa and loveseat seating, and a 65” TV anchor the space, with a stone gas fireplace adding warmth and a direct patio access connecting it to the outdoor spaces below. Upstairs, the loft offers a quieter alternative with a rocking chair and views down into the main level, a good spot for anyone who wants to be near the group without being in the middle of it. Outdoor Living Three acres along Mountaintown Creek give the group room to spread out, and the spaces between the back deck and the water’s edge are designed to be used at every hour of the day. The screened back deck is the social hub, sheltered from bugs and open to the sounds of the creek, with six rocking chairs, two gliding chairs, a hot tub, and a picnic table for six. A gas grill on the front section keeps meals easy without pulling anyone inside. Below, the lower patio offers a padded swing, Adirondack chairs, a picnic table for six, a ping pong table, and a dart board. Stone steps lead the rest of the way down to the creek, where two free-standing swings, a hammock, and a creekside fire pit with rocking chairs give the group one more reason to stay outside long after dark.
