Health & Fitness in Schools to teach about appropriate portion size. It is a very simple yet effective product and is now being used across the UK by the NHS. We are also a recognised National Partner with Change For Life and work alongside their initiatives to help our customers receive as much information as possible about how to lead a healthier and happier life. We now have two designs available. Levels of obesity in the UK have more than tripled in the last 25 years – and the problem not only affects adults, but children as well. With many medical problems linked to excess weight, the implications of this for our health as a nation are very serious. The latest Health Survey for England data shows that in England in 2010: sixty-three per cent of adults (aged 16 or over) were overweight, and 26% of them were obese, thirty per cent of children (aged 2-15) were overweight, and 16% of them were obese. The Foresight report Tackling Obesities: Future Choices, undertaken on behalf of the Government and published in October 2007, predicted that if no action is taken, by 2050 around 60% of men, 50% of women and 25% of children in Britain will be obese. Furthermore, recently reported predictions are that without intervention, by 2030 as many as 41-48% of British men, and 35-43% of women, will be obese, meaning that it may happen twenty years sooner. We all know that portion control is key to losing weight and a healthy lifestyle but sometimes we’re not sure of how much we should be putting on our plates each meal time. The Healthy Portion Plate was developed with NHS dietitans and helps

Many children 'slower runners than their parents were' Many children cannot run as fast as their parents could when they were young, a study of global fitness says. Experts say the work - being presented at the American Heart Association's annual meeting suggests children's fitness levels may be declining. Researchers analysed data spanning 46 years and involving more than 25 million children in 28 countries. On average, children today run a mile 90 seconds slower than did their
counterparts 30 years ago, they said. Obesity Across nations, cardiovascular endurance - gauged by how far children can run in a set time - has dwindled consistently by about 5% every decade, according to the findings. The decline is seen in boys and girls and across all ages from nine to 17 years, and is linked to obesity, with some countries faring worse than others.
Lead researcher Dr Grant Tomkinson done in small chunks rather than one of the University of South Australia's session. Primary Leadership At Ashmount we believe in a philosophy that promotes both independence and a strong commitment to collective responsibility. These principles lay sound foundations for each individual’s growth and an awareness of the part they play in the school and wider community. We believe in using teaching methods that motivate children to
be actively engaged in their own learning, promoting self-esteem and independence. This approach nurtures children’s ability to think critically and creatively, and to collaborate and co-operate. We offer an environment where all cultures are respected and valued. We actively seek to identify and educate against prejudice through the attitudes and
expectations that we encourage and through the resources that we use. We aim to work in partnership with parents, valuing their involvement within the school, recognising their part in their children’s achievement and in promoting a positive ethos throughout the school. We expect a high standard of behaviour from the whole school community, which reflects respect for all its members and promotes a sensitivity to the needs and feelings of others. In January 2013, we relocated to a beautiful, carbon- neutral building in the middle of Crouch Hill Park with the Parkland Walk on our doorstep. Our new school is fit to educate children in the 21st century, with lovely light and airy classrooms, a glass fronted library, a roof- top playground, growing spaces, sports facilities and the latest ICT equipment. Around the school you can hear the sound of the birds and from every window you are greeted with the lush greenery of the Parkland Walk. We are the centre of a thriving multicultural community where we
celebrate both our diversity and our collective responsibility. There are thirty four home languages spoken by children at Ashmount, with communities represented from around the world. This brings a wealth of cultural experience and knowledge to our school which we see as a rich and diverse resource. The whole school site is an inspiring and stimulating place to be and we are very proud to be the new residents of this fantastic new school.
