Institutional Scholarships
1. How can I be eligible for institutional financial aid?
- Have a minimum 2.0 GPA.
- Be a degree-seeking student.
o Both on-campus and off-campus students are eligible for financial aid.
- Be enrolled in courses that are working towards the completion of your current, primary academic plan.
- Have a minimum enrollment status of ¾-time (6-8 credit hours).
o You must be enrolled full-time (9+ credit hours) to receive 100% of your offered Institutional Scholarship.
o For advanced degree students, any enrollment is full-time enrollment.
- Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
2. How will my award amount be affected if I am not enrolled in courses full-time (9+ credit hours)?
- You must be enrolled full-time (9+ credit hours) to receive 100% of the institutional scholarship that you have been offered.
- ¾-time enrollment (6-8 credit hours) will result in your institutional scholarship being reduced by 50%.
- Half-time enrollment or below (1-5 credit hours) is not eligible for Institutional Financial Aid.
- For advanced degrees, failure to enroll in at least 1 credit hour will result in removal of your institutional scholarship.

4. What Institutional Scholarships have a GPA requirement higher than the standard 2.0 GPA requirement?

5. What happens to my Institutional Scholarship if I withdraw from any of my courses?
- If you withdraw from courses after the drop date and fall below full-time enrollment (9+ credit hours), then you will have your institutional financial aid reduced by 33% for each course you withdraw from.
- If your enrollment status falls to half-time or below (1-5 credit hours), then you will lose any remaining financial aid.
o Please note, you will still be charged the total cost of any courses you withdraw from.
- For advanced degrees, if your enrollment status falls below 1 credit hour, then you will lose any remaining financial aid.
6. What costs do Institutional Scholarships cover?

7. Can I be overfunded by Institutional Scholarships?
- No, you cannot be overfunded by Institutional Scholarships.
External Scholarships
1. What are external scholarships?
a. External scholarships includes a wide variety of scholarships offered by individuals, businesses, or organizations outside of federal and state financial aid or institutional scholarships offered directly from Southeastern Seminary.
2. What are the eligibility requirements for external scholarships?
a. External scholarships are incredibly varied in their eligibility requirements, so it is always a case-by-case basis on whether you are eligible or not. Be sure to read all eligibility requirements carefully!
3. How can I find external scholarship opportunities?
a. There are several websites that can be used to help connect students to financial aid sources. The Financial Aid office recommends students use both their External Scholarships page to see if you may be eligible for any scholarships listed there, and also Sallie Mae's Scholarship Search Tool for access to a free scholarship search engine.
4. Do I need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)?
a. No, Southeastern does not participate in Federal grant or loan programs for graduate or advanced degree students.
Military Benefits
1) Who is Eligible to Receive the Military Discount Rate?
a) Veterans currently serving, retired, and (honorably, generally, medically, and other than honorably)-discharged are eligible for the Military Discount Rate.
b) If you are already receiving the Southern Baptist Rate, then the Military Discount Rate will not be applied because they are the same rate (in this case there is no need to apply for the Military Discount Rate).
c) To apply for the Military Discount Rate, please complete and submit the Military Discount Rate Request Form with the appropriate documentation detailed therein.
2) Am I Able to Use VA Education Benefits at Southeastern?
a) The following VA benefits are offered to eligible students (visit the websites below to view eligibility standards):
i) Chapter 30 Montgomery GI Bill: Current/Former Active Duty
ii) Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation
iii) Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill
iv) Chapter 35 Survivors/Dependents Educational Assistance
v) Chapter 1606 MGI Bill: Selected Reserve
3) How Can I Receive Institutional Tuition Assistance?
a) Institutional Tuition Assistance (ITA) is offered in lieu of military TA for students who can demonstrate they are currently eligible for military TA. To demonstrate eligibility, you will need to:
i) Complete and submit the ITA Verification Form along with a current LES.
ii) A current LES must be submitted each semester you would like to receive benefits.
iii) Undergraduate and Graduate students must maintain a cumulative GPA at or above 2.0 to use ITA.
4) What if I am Eligible for other Military Benefits?
a) If you receive any other military-affiliated benefit or scholarship (NCTAP, NCCOWV, etc.), please contact the Financial Aid Assistant for Military Affairs at militaryaffairs@sebts.edu to discuss eligibility standards.
