NDEC Update

O
n Monday at 11 a.m., Governor Charles Ba ker described the step-by-step Reopening of the Commonwealth, following lockdowns, quarantines, and Social Distancing necessitated by the Coronavirus and COVID-19. Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, Housing & Economic Development Secây. Mike Kennealy, and Health & Human Services Secây. MaryLou Sudders also took part. The Governorâs Reopening plan is organized into four phases: I-âSTARTâ; II-âCAUTIOUSâ; III-âV IGIL A NTâ; IV-âNEW NORMALâ. It was interesting to note that he predicted that Phase One would likely last âfor a few weeksâ. If all four phases also take âa few weeksâ, this would mean the Reopening wouldnât be completed
until mid-summer. Baker said we have âflattened the curveâ, but further Reopening would depend strictly upon further medical progress in combatting COVID19. He warned of a (possible) COVID-19 resurgence in the fall. We thought it was notable that Baker, in his introduction, strongly emphasized the need for all of us to continue the four basic (!) COVID-19 preventive measures: - Face covering when out. - Social distancing (6 feet). - Frequent hand washing - Staying at home, if sick. Phase One Reopening allows construction and manufacturing enterprises to restart at once, provided they have (and follow) plans for limiting exposure and the spread of COVID-19. he Notre Dame Education Center (the NDEC) is now nearing the end of one of its most rapidly changing years ever. You are aware that the quarters they had originally occupied on Lower Broadway were relocated to 200 Old Colony Avenue several years ago. Now, the 200 Old Colony site has been under construction for several months; during much of this time,
the NDEC worked in classrooms they rented elsewhere. Eventually, the NDEC will occupy one of the floors in the new, more modern building, which will actually increase their usable teaching floor space when itâs completed.
