March 17, 2015, Well and Truly Observed The South Boston Citizens’ Association (SBCA), the Allied War Veterans Council, The High School’s JROTC Color Guard, the South Boston Historical Society, the Park Rangers, St. Peter’s School, several of Boston’s elected officials, and a number of South Boston residents came together to celebrate this March 17 in St. Augustine Chapel and on Dorchester Heights – the 239th Evacuation Day, and St. Patrick’s Day. by Rick Winterson

The rain was fairly heavy on Tuesday morning, March 17; it was cool weather to say the least. Nevertheless, anyone

from Boston who had braved our record snowfall of 9+ feet was able to shrug it off without a single shiver. South Boston had its key holiday to observe and celebrate – the combined Evacuation Day and St. Patrick’s Day. The Evacuation Day Mass at the charming and historic St. Augustine Chapel was said by Fr. Joe White. The Gospel was from John – the parable story of the generous grower and the laborers he employed in his vineyard. Fr.
