Northern
Lights reach
south
Volume 16, Number 13 | May 16-23, 2024
Much of North America was treated to a rare spectacle as the aurora borealis stretched as far south as Florida over the weekend. The phenomena was caused by solar flares affecting Earth’s magnetic field. The current solar cycle is predicted to peak in July 2025, meaning more chances for viewing the Northern Lights may be on the horizon. Night sky enthusiasts are invited to a free presentation about reducing local light pollution at TACAW on May 16. Find details in this week’s calendar. Photo by Amy Hadden Marsh
