Whenever I hear about a new charitable campaign kickoff or of a major gift, I always have two simultaneous thoughts: What would we do without our not-for-profts? And what motivates our community to give as generously and as often as it does? Sure, sometimes I wonder what our world would look like if there weren’t such a large need. I also muse about where the enormous wealth of the city’s leading philanthropists comes from, but mainly I think th about how lucky we are to be part of a community known for its generosity. It’s precisely this generosity which inspired us to launch Sophisticated Giving, sharing inspiring stories of some of our best and most promising not-for-profts with our audience of in 14,000 households with the wherewithal and propensity to give. 14 Hopefully, learning what these important organizations do will move you and, in the spirit of the holiday season, to give to a new not-for-proft or to give more to those th you support already. yo To simplify the process, we teamed up with St. Louis-based Gladitood, which was started by St. Louisans Ryan Brennell, Geof Raymond and Andrew Baur. Since w launching last year, they have been helping raise money for projects both here and la around the world. ar In the course of my personal philanthropic journey, I have learned from others far wiser and more generous that true charity is based on giving until it hurts. Imagine what our w community would look like if everyone gave to their true potential? I confess that my giving co is inconsist inconsistent and that there were times in my life when I had more, so I gave more. Since we started writing stories in Sophisticated Living about what people are doing in our community and why they give, I have been inspired to do and give more. On the times when it hurt, it felt really good. As St. Louisans refect on what we want St. Louis to be best known for in the future – as a great sports town, advanced medical and cancer center, biotech research, fnancial services, technology and start-up hub, cultural and foodie hotspot – perhaps our 2015 title as Most Giving City in America by Charity Navigator says the most about who we are and what we should build on. It speaks volumes about our priorities and ironically appeals most to a new generation of Millennial activism. Instead of investing $1 billion in a new football stadium, shouldn’t we be using those funds for start-up companies and not-for-profts? Which would do more for the economy, the growth of our metropolis, and the psyche of our community? Personally, I think the title of Most Giving City in America has much deeper and long-lasting implications than winning a Super Bowl. Hopefully you will keep this Charity Register out for the entire year—and until the next edition comes out in November 2016. It will remind the people in your life that giving is part of who we are. Share the stories of what these not-for-profts do with everyone. It’s these personal stories, which inspire others to not only give, but to get involved. It may even motivate some to start something new. Tese groups add humanity to a world, which often feels like it has lost its soul. Tank you to each of you who does so much to make St. Louis great and to our supporters who have made our labor of love into something we are enormously proud of and honored to publish.

My list of heroes is short—but Evelyn Newman ranks near the top. Born early in the last century into the Edison Brothers Shoe family, working outside the home wasn’t an option. Mrs. Newman married young, had a boy and a girl, hired the legendary Sister Parish to decorate her house, and employed plenty of help. I was lucky enough to have known her. She was brilliant – and incredibly fun. Her eyes really did twinkle; her laugh made your heart skip. When she was a young mother ey with not enough to do, she started the St. Louis Book Fair, which funded the city’s frst w interracial daycare. Over the subsequent decades she founded the museum shops in both in the Missouri History Museum and the Saint Louis Art Museum. To raise funds for the th St. Louis Symphony, she created the Gypsy Caravan. It will celebrate its 44th anniversary in St May. Following the lead of the Central Park Conservancy, Mrs. Newman was the founder M and frst director of Forest Park Forever. Tat annual hat luncheon was her idea; it’s now the an organization’s premier fundraiser. or When she wanted to donate her clothes to an organization other than Goodwill, Mrs. Newman started the ScholarShop to fund the Scholarship Foundation’s education programs. N Today, two ScholarShops generate more than $3 million in sales annually. Years later, she To started up an upscale furniture and antique store, the Little Shop Around the Corner, to st help the M Missouri Botanical Garden. After seeing the butterfies in Chiang Mai, Tailand, she came home and raised the money for the Butterfy House. Teaming up with Emily Pulitzer, she sat on the founding board of the First Street Forum, now called the Contemporary Art Museum of St. Louis. Along the way, Mrs. Newman joined the ranks of working women, frst opening the Bird in the Hand shop in the old Clayton Famous-Barr and later with her own fundraising consultancy business. She never stopped. She never stopped being curious; she never let her brain idle. In her 90s, she started a blog. And over the years she and her husband, Eric Newman, an eminent numismatic scholar, donated millions to the city’s institutions. Mrs. Newman changed the face of our city. Tat was her point. Tat is also the raison d’etre of this issue, Sophisticated Giving. St. Louis is a city with a huge heart. Here we present 40 of the city’s not-for-proft agencies, organizations that are changing our community – enriching us culturally, sustaining our poor and disadvantaged, educating, healing, advancing us technologically. Every single one of these agencies can use additional funds, new volunteers, more support. Sadly, they can’t turn to Mrs. Newman for her input, for her latest fundraising brainstorm. She passed away on Sept. 1 at the age of 95. She will be sorely missed. St. Louis was so incredibly lucky that she lived here.

BEST BUDDIES® Who we are: Best Buddies is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) ® organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Founded in 1989 by Anthony K. Shriver, Best Buddies is a vibrant, international organization that has grown from one original chapter to almost 1,900 middle school, high school, and college chapters worldwide. Best Buddies programs engage participants in each of the 50 United States, and over 50 countries around the world.

Promoters — positively impact nearly 900,000 individuals with and without disabilities worldwide. Best Buddies volunteers annually contribute, at no cost to their communities, support services that equate to more than $168 million USD. As a result of their involvement with Best Buddies, people with IDD secure rewarding jobs, live on their own, become inspirational leaders, and make lifelong friendships. What we do: Best Buddies is the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with IDD. For individuals within this community, Best Buddies helps them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communications skills, and feel valued by society. Best Buddies positively impacts nearly 900,000 with and without disabilities worldwide through programs that fall within the organization’s three key mission pillars: One-to-one friendship, integrated employment, and leadership development.

BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF GREATER ST. LOUIS Who we are: For nearly 50 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis (BGCSTL) has been providing afer school, teen and sports programs for youth ages 6-18. Te Club is a chartered member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), which has 4,000 chartered locations that serve nearly 4 million youth annually. In 2012, The Chronicle of Philanthropy ranked BGCA as the nation’s top youth organization for the 19th consecutive year and 18th among all non-proft organizations. BGCSTL is part of a proud tradition of service to our nations’ youth that promotes character and leadership, community and civic involvement, and safety and well-being.

How you can help: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis actively looks for those interested in volunteering, mentoring, enrolling their children, donating or supporting an event. Our Mentor St. Louis (MSL) program empowers St. Louis elementary school students and Club members to succeed in school through structured, positive mentoring relationships with caring adult volunteers. Every year, more than 500 youth in frst through sixth grade are encouraged to develop a love of learning and ultimately reach their highest potential through literacy-based programming and supportive one- on-one relationships. MSL’s programming is unique in that it reaches out to at risk children as early as frst grade in order to enhance literacy and encourage self-esteem as early as possible. All of the mentoring sessions are thematically connected and thoughtfully linked to the child’s own school work. Temes of family, community, career, heritage, fnancial responsibility, goals and diversity are emphasized. We invite you to support a child by becoming a mentor. Volunteering is a great way for the community, individuals and companies to get involved with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis! There are a variety of opportunities ranging from 1-2 hours/week to one-time special events at any of the six Clubs throughout the year. BURNS RECOVERED SUPPORT GROUP

Who We Are: Burns Recovered Support Group (BRSG) is dynamic team of individuals from the public, corporate, medical and fre service communities who are committed to providing support and hope in the journey of recovery from the trauma of burn; our mission is to support burn survivors in their recovery; to assist medical facilities in the care of burns; and to prevent injury and death from burns through community education and outreach.

How We Impact the Community: “Camp helps me go back to my family and friends stronger and more confdent.” – MCBC Camper. “I can see what other kids have gone through and how they survived. It helps me get through & conquer. We are all survivors. That’s a gift!” – MCBC Camper. “At camp, no one stares or asks questions about my scars. I can just be a kid and have fun!” “Can I come back to MCBC? Te place where we can let our guards down, we don’t have to be tough, we feel safe. A place where we can smile, laugh, and even cry. What We Do: Each summer we host Missouri Children’s Burn Camp (MCBC) , a residential camp for burn-injured children where they can forget their scars and just be children. Since all the kids are survivors of burns, everyone has physical scars. Emphasis is placed on the person on the inside, rather than the scars on the outside. Campers enjoy swimming, boating, crafs, archery, ropes courses, and more, while improving their self-confdence and self-image. In addition to camp, BRSG provides emotional and practical support for burn survivors and their families, including hospital visits, support group meetings, and work and school re-entry programs. Our goal is to ensure that burn survivors connect with the support they need to move past the physical scars and live life to the fullest.

How You Can Help: One simple way you can bring hope and encouragement to a burn survivor is to make a gift online, by phone, or by mail. You can honor a special friend by making a tribute gift to BRSG in your friend’s name. CARDINALS CARE (ST. LOUIS CARDINALS COMMUNITY FUND)

Who We Are: Cardinals Care is the St. Louis Cardinals’ Community Fund that was established by the current ownership group in 1997 in order to create an opportunity to give back to the region through charitable initiatives aimed at young people.

Care is in the 12th year of running Redbird Rookies – a free baseball league for nearly 4,000 boys and girls who otherwise might not be able to play. In addition to providing all the uniforms and equipment needed for each team, Redbird Rookies also provides extensive off-field support in the areas of health, education, mentoring and the cultural arts.

What We Do: Cardinals Care’s mission is “Caring for Kids”. We do so by raising funds that are used to support youth service providers with cash grants, and we help construct and/or refurbish youth ball fields, as well as sponsor youth baseball in under-resourced communities in the region.

CARE TO LEARN

Who We Are: In the fall of 2007, Doug Pitt heard some sobering statistics about poverty in Springfield, Missouri. The growing trend of poverty in his hometown was an unwelcome shock to Doug, who had lived and worked in the community his entire life. With close friends and family, Doug shared stories of children living in poverty who had to share a toothbrush, a ffh grade boy who was being made fun of because he had to wear his mother’s jeans and teenage girls missing school because of the lack of personal hygiene products. Others embraced his view that no child should sufer physically or emotionally due to lack of food, access to medical, dental or mental health care, or hygiene issues. A fund was established to meet the emergent needs of Springfield students in the areas of health, hunger and hygiene, and Care to Learn was born. Today, Care to Learn chapters are assisting under-resourced children in 22 school districts throughout Missouri. In St. Louis, chapters are serving students in Hazelwood, St. Charles and Warrenton -- with additional chapters being planned.

How We Impact the Community: Well over half the students in our region attending public school participate in the National Free and Reduced Lunch Program, an indicator of poverty. For these students, Care to Learn is an incredible lifeline. Te funds that Care to Learn receives from generous donors are used in a multitude of ways to help children in immediate need. One day, through Care to Learn, your donation may purchase food to feed a hungry child; the next it may be used to buy a warm coat tomorrow or for eyeglasses so a child can see the board How You Can Help : Care to L earn works with community partners and service providers to stretch the resources provided by our donors to serve the greatest number of students possible. We have dedicated teachers who support us through payroll deduction and retirees who have sent us a donation every month since we began. We have local businesses who sponsor our events and hard-working members of our community who just believe in our mission. And please don’t forget to include Care to Learn in your will or trust. Your contributions to Care to Learn will assure that our children have the resources they need to be successful in school.

What We Do: Care to Learn provides immediate funding to meet emergent health, hunger, and hygiene needs so every child can be successful in school. How We Impact the Community: Central to our values is the belief that everyone, regardless of financial means, should have access to the arts. COLLEGE BOUND Who We Are: College Bound is a St. Louis-grown nonproft recognized as one of the best college access-andsuccess organizations, nationwide. Our mission is to provide promising students from under-resourced backgrounds with the academic enrichment, social supports and life skills needed to succeed in colleges and careers.

How We Impact the Community: Just one adult with a college degree can change the cycle of poverty in a family line forever. The St. Louis Chamber identified raising college completion rates as the most important lever in lifting the regional economy. Low educational attainment has a direct impact on individual income with 2012 median earnings for St. Louis City residents with a bachelor's degree at $42,297, compared to $22,641 for residents with only a high school diploma and $16,346 for residents without a diploma.

What We Do: College Bound provides 680 St. Louis students from 49 diferent high schools and 60+ colleges with a “whole child” system that prepares them for success in college and life. College Bound’s strong and long approach creates learners with a mindset to grow, persist towards goals, contribute to the workforce and give back to the community. We commit to our students for seven to nine years, every step of the way: ACT, mastering Algebra II, coping with lifecycle events like grief, college fnancial literacy, frst internships, frst suits, frst jobs. And, it works. Since 2006, nearly 100% of College Bound’s 875 students have graduated from high school, compared to 71% of St. Louis Public School students. Of those, 94% have matriculated to college within six months. In Missouri, 55% of all students at state universities graduate from college within six years. Of College Bound’s frst class of students (36 students) 53% graduated in six years – the organization leveled the playing feld on its frst try. College Bound’s numbers are only getting better. 70% of College Bound’s high school graduating class of 2011 will graduate from college within six years.

THE FASHION FUND Who We Are: Te Saint Louis Fashion Fund’s 42-member Board of Directors supports emerging designers, and promotes fashion and design education and outreach. Its Second Annual $25,000 Caleres Emerging Designer Award has garnered national attention and press for the Fund and its ambitious efort to build a Fashion Incubator in Downtown St. Louis, and bring back a part of the City’s former garment district.

Our programs address the need for permanent homes for children in foster care, and aim to return foster care to its original purpose: a safe, temporary haven for children to heal from past trauma.

We want to empower them to be amazing advocates! This customizable binder is designed to help organize and track medical records, appointments, doctor consultation notes, pain and diet and all the information gathered during treatment. Created in conjunction with caregivers, survivors, patients, nurses and experts in the field, the Cancer Resource Binder helps families feel empowered in the day to day battles against cancer. In addition to our foundation’s efforts, partnerships with other organizations, like Cancer Support Community and The Empowerment Network, help us connect families currently fghting cancer with this resource. Blood Donation as a Lifeline for Cancer Patients Since 2013, the foundation has hosted seven blood drives in conjunction with the American Red Cross. Tese drives help increase awareness about blood donation as a lifesaving gif and the specifc benefts to cancer patients. In total, more than 500 pints of blood have been collected – helping up to 1,320 patients in need.

LOUIS Who We Are: While we may be best known for our awardwinning performance series, Jazz at the Bistro, Jazz St. Louis is a not-for-proft organization that presents the best in live jazz and educates the next generation of jazz musicians and listeners. We see over 34,000 visitors annually at Jazz at the Bistro performances and reach approximately 10,000 students each year through our free education and outreach initiatives. Why We’re Important: In St. Louis and around the country, the arts are facing shrinking resources. Yet, studies continue to show that arts education is a stepping stone to success for young people. Recent studies found that students' participation in the arts is significantly related to higher standardized test scores, higher attendance and graduation rates, and lower disciplinary rates across the state, regardless of student poverty levels or ethnic status. Over the years, Jazz St. Louis has formed strategic partnerships with many underserved school districts, including Ferguson/Florissant, Normandy, Riverview Gardens, and East St. Louis. These relationships are critical to ensuring that students in these districts have the same opportunities to excel at their craf as those at schools with more funding. As acclaimed trumpeter Byron Stripling said, “Reading, writing, and arithmetic feed the mind, but music feeds the soul. Who We Are: KIPP – the Knowledge Is Power Program – is a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public charter schools with a track record of preparing students in underserved communities for success in college, and in life. With an extended school day and year, and a strong culture of achievement, KIPP is proving what is possible in public education. LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY Who We Are: After their son’s death from leukemia in 1944, Rudolph and Antoinette de Villiers founded the Robert Roesler de Villiers Foundation; the name was changed to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in the 1960s. Te mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. We are the voice for all blood cancer patients and we work to ensure access to treatments for all blood cancer patients.

are available in pill form. Tese targeted therapies kill only the cancer cells, rather than all cells indiscriminately, resulting in fewer side efects. Previously, medical insurers only covered IV therapies, forcing patients to pay exorbitant co-pays under their pharmaceutical plan or spend countless hours in the hospital to receive infusions. In March, legislation was passed in Missouri to limit co-pays to $75 per month and Illinois $100 per month . Te Gateway Chapter led the charge and built a coalition that worked tirelessly in Jeferson City and Springfeld to advocate for this legislation on behalf of cancer patients.

What We Do: As there are no means of preventing or early screening for most blood cancers, LLS drives research in areas of unmet medical need, and helps to bridge the gap between academic discovery and drug development. LLS identifes and funds the most promising blood cancer research projects and forges partnerships with academic institutions, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies to accelerate the development of new therapies. LLS was the frst to perform chemotherapy, the first to perform bone marrow transplants, and is now pioneering work in oral (tablet) targeted to cancer cells therapies and immunotherapy. Innovative Health Research- Since our founding, LLS has invested over $1 billion in research to find cures. As a result, 5 year survival rates for most blood cancers have doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled. Our successes have also helped other patients. Since 2000, 81 drugs have been FDA approved as cancer treatments. Of these, 40% were frst approved as treatments for blood cancer patients and are now used to treat solid tumor cancers and serious non-malignant diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.

How We Impact the Community: LLS is the leading source of free, highly specialized blood cancer information, education and support for patients, survivors, families and healthcare professionals. We touch patients in our communities. Patient and Professional Education- LLS provides patients, families and healthcare professionals with the latest information on blood cancers and their treatments through the Information Resource Center hotline (1-800-955-4572), and Patient Care Binders. All of these resources are free of charge, and many educational programs offer Continuing Education credits for healthcare providers. Student Series Program- Through our Student Series program, we provide a curriculum to over 600 schools that highlights volunteerism and educates K-12 students about blood cancers and treatments. LIFT FOR LIFE ACADEMY Who We Are: Founded in 2000, under the sponsorship of Southeast Missouri State University, Lif For Life Academy is St. Louis’ first independent charter school, serving 585 students in grades 6-12 from the city of St. Louis. Lif For Life Academy is a Title I school (90+% of students qualify for free/reduced lunches which means the family lives near or below the poverty level). The Academy provides free transportation to and from school and it ofers an exciting learning community where students, staff and families work together to assure that every student soars to lifelong excellence in academics and character.

Why We’re Important: LFLA strives to level the playing field so students are competitive with those from betterresourced districts. Lift For Life Academy has proven it is possible to make a real diference in educational success of St. Louis’ at-risk students. By lifing academic achievement, Lif For Life Academy helps St. Louis city students who could “fall through the cracks” gain the tools and confdence they need to graduate and become successful young adults. How We Impact the Community: Preparing students to succeed and excel in today’s diverse society is a central goal of the Academy. Te Academy has helped thousands of at-risk, challenged young learners realize their goal of graduating, obtaining well-paying jobs and becoming productive citizens. Plans are underway to expand our school to add additional high school classrooms and a Health & Wellbeing Center.

What We Do: Lift For Life Academy provides every student with a high-quality education. In May 2015, 65 of our 66 currently enrolled seniors graduated. The percentage of those graduates that attended 4-year college exceeds the state average by 21%. Since the frst graduating class in 2012, the Academy maintains an average 94% high school graduation rate. Attendance rates hover near 90% and students are engaged, as shown by a 2015 dropout rate of only 2.4%. Lift For Life Academy offers an extended school day and school year; low teacher to student ratio (1:14); world lang uages; and ongoing student assessment resulting in a learning plan for each student. Each grade includes a double block of communication arts/ reading. LFLA ofers of-site learning opportunities and advanced college credit programs. LFLA uses student interventions such as prescriptive reading and math instruction based on student issues/needs; mandatory aferschool tutoring ; plus instructional coaches. Other programs to keep kids engaged and achieve academic proficiency include athletics, Fashion Design, Honor Societies, world languages, student interest-based clubs, and free drivers’ education. The on-site social worker and counselors help address non-academic issues that impact student performance in school. All services and programs are free to students and their families. In partnership with St. Louis University’s “1818 Advanced College Credit Program”, qualifed juniors and seniors have the opportunity to earn college credit for select advanced-level high school courses taught by LFLA teachers. Nearly 25% of graduates enter college with credits in English, Math and/or History.

It was founded by Teri Griege, a stage IV colon cancer survivor/fghter and competitive triathlete whose personal story of determination and perseverance continue to inspire thousands.

How We Impact the Community: Cancer patients have a tradition of ringing a bell the day of their last chemotherapy infusion. Sadly, not all patients make it that far. Powered by Hope exists to give patients a boost when the battle seems overwhelming and they are getting discouraged. “I want people to never give up,” says Griege. “You’re never too old and you’re never alone. Anything is possible…powered by hope!”

What We Do: At age 50, while training for the Ironman World Championship, Teri Griege was diagnosed with cancer. Despite months of surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation treatments, she continued to pursue her dream and completed her quest. With Powered by Hope, she works to help other cancer patients win the race of their lives. Volunteers present patients with a Medal of Hope – similar to those awarded to Olympic, marathon and other event athletes – or a Coin of Courage – similar to a Challenge Coin or a 12-Step coin – as a token of support and hope. Why We’re Important: Pediatric care is complex. It requires state-of-the-art medical equipment and supplies to accommodate the tiniest premature babies to teens on the verge of adulthood. It requires care teams with specialized expertise. It requires child-friendly facilities and special services to meet the unique physical and emotional needs of children and provide support for their families. And it requires pediatric research to advance the care for tomorrow’s children. Philanthropy covers the cost of programs and services that would be impossible to fund under the hospital’s general operating budget. Who We Are: St. Louis World Food Day commemorates World Food Day, a United Nations initiative designed to increase awareness, understanding and informed, yearround action to alleviate hunger. Each October, in the John Burroughs School Field House, we organize a foodpackaging event that enables St. Louisans to work together to assemble more than 300,000 meals in a single day to help feed hungry people living locally and abroad. The St. Louis World Food Day event is 100% organized and executed by volunteers. THE SHELDON CONCERT HALL AND ART GALLERIES Who We Are: The Sheldon was designed by noted St. Louis World’s Fair architect Louis Spiering and opened its doors in 1912 as the Ethical Society of St. Louis. This new partnership will allow inspireStL to better serve St. Louis area teens. Under the Wyman programming model, inspireStL will increase its scale and impact by providing greater resources to support local teens and empower them to become the future leaders of St. Louis. inspireStL will continue to provide its scholars access to transformative educational experiences, as we prepare, support, encourage, and empower underserved urban youth with the opportunities they need to realize their dreams.

• Even when they do excel in their current educational environments, they are academically underprepared for college, and do not receive the direction and support they need to succeed at the post-secondary level. • Nearly 90% will be frst-generation college graduates, and have little experience or guidance in the process of succeeding in post-secondary educational environments. • 93% come from low-income backgrounds, and face fnancial challenges that, without support, will prevent them from unlocking their bright futures. How We Impact the Community: Our most immediate impact has come from the creation of a pipeline of educational excellence for underserved students in St. Louis. We have changed the lives of the scholars, providing them with access to transformative educational opportunities. Over the past four years, we have placed 100 percent of our scholars in top performing public and private college-prep high schools, where they have maintained a solid B grade point average. 100 percent of our inaugural Class of 2015 scholars have graduated from college-prep high schools, and are matriculating to four-year colleges around the country; they collectively earned over $1.5 million in scholarships. We will continue to support our scholars throughout college, and we are encouraging them to return to St. Louis afer, to serve and lead within their communities.

What We Do: inspireSTL recruits high potential, underserved students from St. Louis public and charter middle schools at the end of 7th grade. We prepare them for and place them within the region’s most rigorous college-prep high schools. Throughout high school, inspireSTL supports our scholars in achieving academic and social success, while we secure the financial capacity to attend tuition-based schools. Through ACT prep courses; resume, cover letter and application writing workshops; and financial aid seminars, we also ensure that scholars attend college with the resources necessary to matriculate. Ultimately, we seek to empower scholars to become the future leaders of St. Louis. To that end, we provide leadership development, support, and training to scholars, to empower them as leaders in their high schools, colleges and communities.

Tey expressed dreams of graduating from high school, going to college, and becoming engineers, lawyers and doctors. Yet, when she understood the reality they faced—only fve in thirty would attend a four-year college, and just two would be prepared to succeed on day one—she was dismayed. She decided to work to place students into true college-prep high schools, and to dramatically change the trajectory of those students’ futures. At inspireSTL, we recruit students who dream big.
