spring semester highlight the debunk the tortured artist myth campaign, a collaboration between the cornell fashion collective and thread magazine, was born as an extension of the october 2020 mental health awareness week. the campaign’s message was to debunk the idea of the “tortured artist” and the romanticization of mental illness as a necessary catalyst for creativity — and to redirect this narrative to focus on the positive link between art and mental health. t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, and totes were sold to raise money for twentytwenty organization working to “educate, inform, and inspire audiences to challenge the stigma associated with mental health, homelessness, and addiction."
