BOARD OF SUPERVISORS APPROVE FUNDING FOR TWO LOW-INCOME HOUSING PROJECTS Projects will bring more than 100 new homes to Dixon and Fairfield The Solano County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved funding for two area affordable housing projects that will bring more than 100 new homes to low-income families and individuals within the county.

MINA LOERA-DIAZ WELCOMES ROLE AS NEW VALLEJO VICE MAYOR
Last year Mina Loera-Diaz announced that 2024 would be her last year serving on the Vallejo City Council. Last week it was announced that year would be in the role of vice mayor. Loera-Diaz — who serves District 3 in Vallejo — was a unanimous choice by the council on Jan. 9 for the role, replacing Rozzana Verder-Aliga, who is still on the council. Help Us Shape Our New Business Awards Program Sustainable Solano has spent 25 years working to strengthen our communities through urban agriculture and community gardens, supporting the local food system, and environmental resilience. Now we plan to launch an awards program to recognize businesses that are making a positive impact in our community and we need your help! Doing Good will shine a light on businesses that embody the three ethics of permaculture – care for the Earth, care for people, and fair share. We need local business leaders who can help create this program, set the criteria and help select recipients from nominated awardees.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD OF SOLANO COUNTY’S BUSINESS SUMMIT IGNITES ECONOMIC RESURGENCE
Over 30 business owners and HR personnel joined the Workforce Development Board of Solano County for an in-person Solano Business Summit last week at The Daily Desk. This is the first of three in-person business summits the Solano WDB and Solano-Napa SBDC has planned this year through a partnership with California Employers Association. This partnership is made possible through Solano County ARPA funding to support businesses as they continue to rebuild from the pandemic.

SCHOOL OF EDUCATION DEAN Tom Smith, a professor of public policy and education in Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College, will join UC Davis as its new dean of the School of Education on June 1, 2024. Smith is a highly accomplished researcher, educator, and leader with more than 30 years of experience in education. Prior to joining Vanderbilt in 2022, he held several leadership roles at UC Riverside, including interim provost and executive vice chancellor, dean of the Graduate School of Education, and interim vice chancellor for Student Affairs.
