“My name is Mike Dickstein, and I’m a local real estate professional with Century 21 Judge Fite Company serving Colleyville, Southlake, Grapevine, and the greater Tarrant County area. Staying active has always been a big part of my life—whether that’s rock climbing, playing pickleball or golfing. But with that level of activity also comes the reality of wear and tear on the body. Over time, I started experiencing ongoing upper back aches, joint discomfort, and general tightness that required constant attention just to stay comfortable That’s what led me to explore PEMF therapy at PEMF Recovery Plus.”

“Before I started PEMF, maintaining mobility took real effort. I was spending 30 to 40 minutes every day stretching, and even then, I would tighten up throughout the day — especially in my upper back, shoulders and neck. Sitting for extended periods would make the stiffness set in quickly. It wasn’t debilitating, but it was persistent and I knew I needed something more consistent to support recovery.”

DISCOVERING A BETTER WAY TO RECOVER “I came across PEMF while looking for an alternative to relying so much on deep tissue massages. I wanted something more consistent—not just temporary relief. PEMF felt like a natural next step, and once I started, I could tell it was different.”

WHAT A SESSION FEELS LIKE “I use PEMF one to two times a week and really appreciate the flexibility with their after-hours access. During a session, I’m completely relaxed and focused on recovery—using different attachments to target specific areas and let my body reset.”

WHEN I KNEW IT WAS WORKING “After about three sessions, I noticed a real difference—relief lasted longer and my body felt more responsive. What really stood out was recovering from a recent tendon issue in weeks instead of months like before. That’s when I knew it was working.”

LASTING RELIEF THAT SUPPORTS DAILY LIFE “The biggest change is how long relief lasts. Before, tightness would come back quickly. But now, I experience less joint discomfort and stiffness, plus much more fluid movement throughout the day.”

MORE THAN JUST PAIN RELIEF “One unexpected benefit has been increased energy. When your body feels better, everything improves. I feel more motivated to stay active

and keep moving. It’s about reducing discomfort, but it’s also about improving your overall quality of life.”

STAYING ACTIVE AND DOING WHAT I LOVE “PEMF has helped me stay consistent with all the activities I enjoy—rock climbing, pickleball and golf. Faster recovery now means that I can keep going without interruption, which is incredibly important to me.”

PART OF MY ROUTINE “I still stretch daily, but PEMF has become an important addition. It enhances what I’m already doing and helps extend the benefits so I can stay active and consistent.”

SIMPLE, EFFECTIVE & WORTH IT “What I appreciate most is how easy and effective it is. With PEMF, I can relax, target specific areas and experience long-lasting relief. It’s simple—and that’s what makes it work.”

“I absolutely recommend PEMF therapy to others. I’ve already shared it and everyone seems to experience benefits in their own way—whether it’s better sleep, improved mobility or reduced pain. For me, it’s been about staying active, recovering faster and continuing to do the things I love. At 68, I’m still climbing, golfing and living fully—and PEMF helps me keep it that way.”

ONE COMMUNITY. YOUR STORIES.
“For 20 years, every story Society Life Magazine has told has been part of mine.”

MY STORY BEHIND THE STORIES

Twenty years ago, a simple observation sparked something much bigger than I could have imagined. After my husband, Steve, and I moved to Keller from far west Fort Worth, I began getting to know our new community and quickly noticed something missing—a lifestyle magazine that truly reflected the people, businesses, and spirit of Northeast Tarrant County. That may seem like an unusual thought for some, but not for me. With a degree in journalism, a minor in graphic design, and roots as a third-generation graphic artist, storytelling and design have always been part of who I am. After college, I worked at a boutique design firm where I wore many hats—an experience that unknowingly prepared me to one day run a business of my own. At the time, I was also freelancing for a local publisher, gaining insight into the publishing world. My husband, a natural-born salesman and successful financial advisor, brought a completely different—but equally essential—skill set to the table. Together, we saw an opportunity, and more importantly, we believed in it. There was no Plan B.

In 2006, Society Life Magazine was born.

In those early years, we weren’t just building a publication—we were building a life. Our twin boys arrived in January 2009, and around the same time, our publishing titles expanded beyond Northeast Tarrant County into additional markets in Burleson, Weatherford and Franklin, Tennessee. It was a season of growth, both personally and professionally, and one that shaped the foundation of what Society Life is today. In 2012, my husband passed away suddenly. And while that chapter of my life changed everything, the vision we created together did not. I chose to continue forward— committed to the magazine we built, the community we served, and the legacy we had started.

Over time, Society Life became not only a business, but a testament to perseverance, purpose, and the belief that something meaningful can continue to grow, even through life’s most unexpected turns. Today, the magazine continues to evolve, but its purpose remains the same—to celebrate local stories, highlight exceptional businesses and influential residents, and connect a community that continues to thrive. What started as an idea has become a trusted voice—one that I have had the privilege of nurturing every single month.

Looking back, it feels surreal to say that this marks 20 years in print. That’s 240 issues, more than 25,000 pages, and over 7 million words shared with readers. Each issue represents not just content, but relationships, creativity, and a deep commitment to excellence. As a child, I was always creating—drawing, painting, writing poetry, and finding joy in expressing ideas through words and design. In many ways, Society Life is a continuation of that same passion, just on a much larger scale. It is both a creative outlet and a calling.

To our readers, advertisers, and community partners—thank you. Your support has made this journey not only possible, but meaningful. It has been an honor to tell your stories for the past 20 years, and I look forward to many more ahead. Here’s to where we’ve been—and where we’re going.

ROOTED IN FAITH

STRENGTH FOR DAILY LIFE

CelebratingMilestones

making moments matter

In the rhythm

of life, milestones

invite us to pause. A birthday, an anniversary, a business achievement — these moments quietly ask us to look back, look around and look ahead. In a culture that’s all too often rushing from one accomplishment to the next, Scripture gently reminds us that celebration is not about self-congratulation, but instead about remembrance, gratitude and renewed purpose.

From the very beginning, God established rhythms of remembrance for His people. Throughout the Old Testament, we see feasts, festivals and sacred days set aside not merely for celebration, but for reflection. In Psalm 126:3, the psalmist declares, “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.” Milestones, then, become markers of God’s faithfulness— visible reminders that we have not walked this journey alone.

It is easy, however, to let our milestones become centered on personal achievement. Yet the Scripture redirects our focus. In Deuteronomy 8:18, we are reminded, “It is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth.” Every success, every open door, every season of growth ultimately traces back to God’s provision. When we celebrate with this perspective, our milestones become acts of worship rather than moments of pride. At the same time, the Bible cautions us to guard our hearts. In Proverbs 27:2, we read, “Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth.” Milestones are not invitations to boast, but rather

opportunities to walk in humility. The goal is not to elevate ourselves, but to acknowledge the grace that carried us.

Milestones also invite us to honor the other people who have been part of the journey. Scripture consistently calls us to value others above ourselves. No life, no family, no business succeeds in isolation. Whether it is a team, a spouse, friends or a community, each milestone reflects a shared story. Taking time to recognize those who have walked alongside us transforms celebration into connection.

There is also a forward-facing purpose to these moments. In 2 Corinthians 9:11, we are told that we are blessed so that we can be generous. Milestones are not just about what has been accomplished—they are about what comes next. They offer a chance to recommit, realign with our purpose and ask how we can use what we have been given to serve others more fully. And perhaps most importantly, milestones remind us that time itself is a gift. Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us, “There is a time for everything, and a season for

every activity under the heavens.” Each milestone marks the closing of one season and also the beginning of another. It’s a sacred invitation to trust God not only with where we have been, but with where we are going.

So whether you are celebrating a personal achievement, a meaningful anniversary or a season of growth, take the time to pause. Reflect on the journey. Give thanks for the blessings. Honor those who have walked with you. And step forward with humility and renewed purpose.

As you stand at your next milestone, don’t just celebrate what you have done— surrender it. Lay every success, every lesson, every step at God’s feet with gratitude. Let it humble you, not elevate you. Let it refocus you, not define you. And then move forward with renewed faith, knowing the same God who carried you here is already preparing what’s next. Because a life marked by His faithfulness isn’t measured by milestones alone—it’s measured by the legacy that you build for His glory.

The Last Gypsy Queen

RIPE READS BOOK REVIEWS

The Last Gypsy Queen is a captivating and beautifully written historical novel that blends romance, resilience, and cultural depth into a story that feels both intimate and expansive. It is set during the uncertainty of World War II, and Linda Paul transports readers to Ohio’s Buckeye Lake Amusement Park, where the glow of the midway offers a temporary escape from a world at war—yet beneath it lies a powerful story of identity, hardship and hope.

At the center of the novel is Marisol Mazaria, a truly unforgettable heroine whose journey is as heartbreaking as it is inspiring. Arriving with her Romani family after enduring personal tragedy, Marisol is faced with a future that feels predetermined—one that’s shaped by tradition and survival, but also limited opportunity. Yet from the beginning, there is a quiet strength within her, a sense that she is meant for more. Paul brings remarkable depth to Marisol’s character, allowing readers to feel her every fear, every longing and every moment of courage along the way.

The developing relationship between Marisol and Will Worthington adds both warmth and tension to the story. Their connection is genuine and also heartfelt, but it is also challenged by

societal expectations, cultural divides, and the looming realities of war. Rather than relying solely on romance, the novel uses their story to explore deeper themes of prejudice, as well as belonging—and the risks involved in choosing a different path.

Paul’s attention to both historical and cultural detail is one of the book’s greatest strengths. The portrayal of the Romani community is handled with sensitivity and care, offering insight into traditions and struggles that are rarely explored in most mainstream historical fiction. The setting itself feels vivid and alive, immersing readers in both the beauty and complexity of the time.

Ultimately, The Last Gypsy Queen is a powerful story about self-discovery and the courage to pursue a life beyond expectation. It is a moving, thoughtprovoking novel that will resonate with readers long after the final page. With lyrical prose, emotional depth, and a compelling sense of place, it stands out as a memorable and meaningful read— one that speaks to anyone who has ever questioned their path and dared to imagine something more. Linda Paul’s novel is thoughtful, immersive and emotionally rich—one that lingers long after the final page.

A thoughtful, immersive and emotionally rich novel that leaves a lasting impression.

A young woman in 1940s Ohio risks everything for love and a chance at a new life as war, prejudice and family loyalty threaten to tear it all away.

CELEBRATE AND LEARN ABOUT OUR NATION’S HISTORY

This summer, the award-winning one-man play AMON! The Ultimate Texan will make its Dallas debut at the Winspear Opera House in the AT&T Performing Arts Center Arts District. The production brings to life the legendary Fort Worth publisher and civic leader Amon G. Carter, who helped shape North Texas. Written by longtime journalist/columnist Dave Lieber—formerly of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and later Dallas Morning News’ Watchdog column— the play tells the remarkable true story of Carter’s rise from a log cabin upbringing and an 8th-grade education to becoming one of the most powerful media figures in Texas. Carter owned the Star-Telegram, WBAP-AM and Channel 5, and was known for both his larger-than-life personality and his famous rivalry with Dallas, which he dubbed “Little D.” To celebrate the Dallas engagement, the creative team recently staged a playful “Amon visits Dallas” photo tour featuring a life-size Carter cutout at iconic landmarks. The Amon G. Carter production has already been performed more than 70 times across Texas.

Together, these patents signal a broader evolution—Love That Door is no longer just creating beautiful products. It is building protected, differentiated systems that their competitors cannot replicate.

With an active patent continuation strategy and expanding trademark portfolio—including the LOVE THAT DOOR® brand and emerging marks like LOVE THAT LOCK™—the company is establishing a layered intellectual property foundation that positions it for long-term leadership and growth.

This evolution is not just about expanding product lines—it’s about redefining how spaces feel, function and connect.

“At Love That Door, our superior commitment to our team, and our unwavering pursuit of service, craftsmanship and engineering ensures that every piece we create is a masterpiece that will last. It’s not just our company name—it’s our promise. Our clients all across North Texas echo the sentiment that they Love That Door.”

Scaling for the Future

Innovation at Love That Door extends beyond product design into operations and service. A recent strategic partnership with Enterprise has strengthened the company’s fleet capabilities, enabling greater efficiency, expanded service coverage and enhanced responsiveness across Texas.

Combined with multiple showroom locations throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, this operational growth ensures that as demand increases, the company can scale without compromising the craftsmanship and personalized experience that define its brand.

A Legacy in Motion

At Love That Door, innovation is not just seen—it’s experienced in every detail. From precision-engineered systems to thoughtfully designed spaces, every product reflects a commitment to excellence that extends far beyond installation.

Guided by core values of faith, integrity, grit, growth, excellence and family, the company continues to build more than doors—it builds lasting relationships, meaningful experiences, and a legacy of craftsmanship that stands the test of time.

As Love That Door looks to the future, one thing is clear—the entryway is no longer just an entrance. It’s an engineered statement, a design centerpiece, and a reflection of how we live.

LEGACY

“Integrity and trust are at the heart of all we do. Our goal is not just to install roofs, but to deliver an ownership experience that always exceeds expectations— one that reflects the premium products we stand behind. We measure our success not by the number of roofs that we install, but by the number of people we’re able to help.”

30 YEARS PROTECTING LOCAL HOMES

For nearly three decades, David Martin & Son Roofing has stood as a trusted name in North Texas—protecting homes, earning loyalty, and building a legacy rooted in integrity. Since opening their doors in October 1996, owners David and Jennifer Martin have remained steadfast in their mission to serve the local community and homeowners with honesty, craftsmanship, and a commitment that goes far beyond the roof itself.

What began as a small, family-run operation has grown into one of the most respected roofing companies in Tarrant County through word-of-mouth and relationships built over time. For the Martin family, longevity is about showing up, doing the job right, and standing behind every project. “If it’s not good enough for our own home, it’s not good enough for yours,” is the standard that has guided them for nearly 30 years.

Together, they have built a company defined not only by quality workmanship, but by trust. That trust extends deeply into the community they serve. From supporting local schools and rebuilding baseball fields to contributing to environmental initiatives, the Martins have woven their business into the fabric of North Texas. Their impact is felt not just in the homes they’ve protected, but in the lasting relationships they’ve nurtured along the way.

That legacy continues with their son, Jake, who brings a fresh perspective while carrying forward the same strong values his parents established 30 years ago. It’s a seamless blend of tradition and progress—proof that what they’ve built is designed to last.

David remains hands-on, often found on rooftops inspecting work and ensuring every detail meets his exacting standards. Jennifer, a first-generation Vietnamese immigrant, brings equal strength to their business by overseeing operations, managing projects, and guiding homeowners through complex insurance claims with both clarity and care.

In an industry often marked by uncertainty, David Martin & Son Roofing remains a steady, reliable presence. As long-time Colleyville residents, the Martins built their reputation on faith, family, and an unwavering commitment to doing what’s right. Their legacy is not just in the roofs they’ve installed, but in the trust they’ve earned—one homeowner at a time— creating a lasting sense of protection, pride, and peace of mind that stands strong against the Texas elements and safeguards families for generations to come.

“From our family to yours, thank you for every visit, every recommendation, and every ‘you’ve gotta try this place’ that you’ve shared. Here’s to more brisket, more smiles, and many more years of serving Tarrant’s favorite BBQ.

Thank you! Y’all have made 25 years possible.”

SOUTHLAKE ORIGINAL SINCE 2001

Long before the city of Southlake became one of Northeast Tarrant County’s most soughtafter local communities, a humble corner along White Chapel Boulevard served as a gathering place for a town of fewer than 1,000 people. Over the decades, the building wore many names—Bailey Feed Store, Miller’s Grocery, Dee’s Hitchin’ Post, Southlake Feed & Tack— but its guiding purpose has always been to serve its neighbors and that’s never changed.

In 1997, Bill and Phyllis “Mema” Lafavers saw more than an aging structure—they saw an opportunity to build something lasting. Having moved their family to Southlake in 1974 in search of a quieter, more grounded way of life, they had witnessed firsthand the town’s transformation. When they purchased the feed and tack store, they quickly realized that a shift was underway—the animals were moving out, but the people were moving in. So they adapted— with vision, grit, and a little Texas instinct.

In April 2001, after extensive renovations and plenty of crossed fingers, Feedstore BBQ opened its doors. What began as a leap into the unknown—without any formal restaurant experience—quickly became a cornerstone of the community. Fueled by family recipes, a love for great barbecue, and the support of loyal

locals, the Lafavers created more than just a restaurant. They created a destination. What defines Feedstore BBQ isn’t just its history—it’s its unwavering commitment to excellence. Every brisket is smoked low and slow. Every ingredient is thoughtfully sourced, often from Texas producers through the GO TEXAN program. Every plate reflects a standard the family refuses to compromise on—never lower quality to compete, never rush the process, and always deliver a product worthy of the price. That consistency is their signature.

Today, Feedstore BBQ stands as Southlake’s oldest retail establishment—a place where decades of history live within its walls. But its true legacy is found in the people it serves. From Friday night football crowds to families who’ve been coming for generations, the Feedstore has remained deeply rooted in community life—supporting the local schools, hiring locally, and creating a space where everyone feels like they belong. Now carried forward by the next generation of the Lafavers family, the vision remains unchanged—honor the past, serve the present, and protect the future. Because at Feedstore BBQ, being “built to last” isn’t just about time—it’s about family, tradition, integrity, and doing things right, every single day and with every single plate.

The foundation of the practice rests on a simple belief that meaningful, relationship-centered care is the true gold standard in dentistry. For over three decades, James Landscaping has been quietly shaping outdoor spaces— and the everyday lives—of homeowners across North Texas. Since 1989, their work has gone far beyond landscaping. It’s about creating environments where families gather, memories are made, and our communities feel more connected to the beauty around them. In a region where yards often present as many challenges as opportunities, the team at James Landscaping has built its legacy on seeing potential where others see problems. What sets James Landscaping apart is not just longevity, but the consistency of their craftsmanship and care. Their team of trained and licensed professionals brings decades of hands-on experience to every single project, managing each detail from initial concept to completion. From custom patios and walkways to retaining walls, irrigation systems and water features, every element is designed with both beauty and durability in mind. Clients often note two things—the unmatched quality of the

work and the integrity of the people behind it. Equally important is their role as stewards of the environment.

In the demanding and varied climate of North Texas, sustainability is not just a trend—it’s a necessity. James Landscaping prioritizes thoughtful plant selection, plus efficient water management, and the use of organic fertilizers to ensure landscapes thrive, but also endure. Over the years, this dedication has transformed more than just individual properties. It has helped elevate entire neighborhoods, adding lasting value and visual harmony to the places people call home. A LASTING LEGACY IN FAMILY LAW

Justice Law Firm has built its reputation on something far more meaningful than legal results alone—it’s built on trust, longevity and a genuine commitment to the people it serves. For founder Tracey L. Justice, the vision was never simply to practice law. It was to create a firm where families feel supported through life’s most emotional and defining moments—and to build something that would stand the test of time. That vision has now guided the firm for more than two decades. Since earning her Juris Doctor in 2001, Justice has cultivated a career rooted in both legal excellence and human connection. Her inspiration to become an attorney was shaped not only by her education, but by a lifetime of experiences that placed her close to the realities families face. With a background in psychology from Baylor, along with time spent in real estate and owning a daycare, she developed a strong instinct for understanding of people—how they think, what they fear and what they need most when life becomes uncertain.

Her greatest influence, however, came much earlier. Justice credits her uncle—an attorney for more than 55 years—as one of her biggest mentors and inspirations. Watching his dedication to the profession and the impact he made on others helped shape her own path,

reinforcing her desire to pursue a career where she could make a meaningful difference in lives. That passion is deeply personal—and deeply rooted in the community she calls home. A Southlake resident since 1998, Justice has been an active member of The Hills Church for more than 23 years. Her connection to the community she serves isn’t just professional.

From the beginning, her goal was clear—build a boutique firm that delivers the sophistication of a large practice but maintains the warmth and attentiveness of a small one. That vision is reflected in every aspect of Justice Law Firm. Longevity in business doesn’t just happen by accident. It is earned through integrity and a steadfast commitment to doing what is right for clients. For Tracey, it also means growing alongside the community she serves. Many clients return for different life stages—from custody matters to estate planning—creating relationships that extend far beyond a case. At its heart, Justice Law Firm is a reflection of its founder—grounded, driven and personal. It’s a place where experience meets empathy, and where families find not just legal guidance, but reassurance for the road ahead. As the firm continues to grow, her core vision remains the same—to serve families with excellence, compassion and a lasting legacy.

25+ YEARS OF SUPERIOR PLUMBING

Before modern technology changed how plumbing issues are diagnosed, finding a leak often meant cutting into walls, disrupting homes, and hoping for the best. For many homeowners, it was an expensive and frustrating process filled with uncertainty. When husband-and-wife team Tony and Christie Herman founded Leak Geeks in 2001, they knew there had to be a better way—not only in how leaks were detected, but in how customers were treated. Based in Keller and serving the greater DFW metroplex, Leak Geeks Plumbing was built from the ground up with a clear mission: deliver fast, high-quality service through skilled professionals who genuinely care.

From the start, the Hermans focused on more than just fixing plumbing problems—they focused on building trust. Their goal was simple yet meaningful: to become the plumbers their customers could rely on for life. As the business grew, so did its presence in the community. After 13 years of renting, the company made a defining move by purchasing its own building—proof that Leak Geeks wasn’t just growing, but here to stay. In March 2009, they relocated to a new office and warehouse in Fort Worth. What was once a retail space was thoughtfully transformed into a welcoming, storefront-style location that serves as part of-

fice, part resource center for customers seeking guidance on plumbing projects, fixtures, and services. Behind the scenes, that same space functions as the heartbeat of the company— housing administrative operations and serving as a central dispatch hub for Leak Geeks’ team of service professionals in the field. What truly sets Leak Geeks apart, however, begins long before a technician arrives. Each day starts with in-house training led by Tony, where the team sharpens not only technical skills but also the small details that elevate customer service. At Leak Geeks, it’s understood that even the smallest things can make a lasting impact.

Over the years, Leak Geeks has built a strong reputation for precision, professionalism, and consistency. But beyond tools and techniques, it’s their commitment to people that defines them. Every call is an opportunity to bring clarity and peace of mind. Today, Leak Geeks is more than a plumbing company—it’s a trusted name woven into the fabric of the community it serves. Built on faith, family, and a relentless dedication to doing things the right way, the mission remains unchanged: deliver exceptional service, build lasting relationships, and be there when it matters most—for every home, every business, and every customer who calls.

SL greater good

Change begins long before a crisis — and when it starts early enough, it has the power to change everything. In recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month this month, Upbring is leading the way across Texas with a bold, forward-thinking approach to child wellbeing — one rooted not just in intervention, but in prevention.

By focusing on what families need before challenges escalate, Upbring is creating meaningful, lasting impact that reaches far beyond a single moment in time. Their mission centers on generational innovation by developing sustainable solutions that strengthen families today while creating brighter, more stable futures for generations to come. Because when we invest in prevention, we don’t just change beginnings, we change everything that follows.

SL greater good

The true measure of a community is how it cares for its most vulnerable — and Upbring stands at the forefront of that mission. Through compassion, innovation and an unwavering commitment to children and families, this Texas-based nonprofit is redefining what child wellbeing looks like. Focused on prevention as much as care, Upbring’s work reaches beyond crisis response — building stronger families, safer communities and a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive.

A LEGACY ROOTED IN PURPOSE

In Texas, where communities are built on resilience and connection, the work of Upbring reflects a deeper calling—one rooted in compassion, innovation and a relentless commitment to protecting children. For more than a century, this nonprofit has stood as a steady force for good, evolving with the times while remaining anchored in a singular mission: to break the cycle of child abuse and to create a future where every child is safe, healthy and given the opportunity to thrive. Founded more than 138 years ago

UPBRING

Upbring is a Texas-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to child wellbeing and breaking the cycle of abuse. As warriors who are supporting warriors, the organization is redefining child wellbeing across Texas. Formerly Lutheran Social Services of the South, it provides foster care, adoption, residential treatment, and education programs. With more than 138 years of service, Upbring honors its past while innovating new systems to help children and families in Texas thrive for generations to come. Compelled by love, Upbring is determined to give all they can.

as Lutheran Social Services of the South, Upbring has grown into one of Texas’ leading child wellbeing organizations. Its transformation in 2015 marked more than a name change to Upbring—it signaled a renewed focus on developing innovative, comprehensive systems designed to address root causes of abuse and neglect.

PREVENTION AT THE CORE

At its heart, Upbring believes that child wellbeing is inseparable from family and community wellbeing. Rather than focusing

solely on intervention after trauma occurs, the organization prioritizes prevention— working to strengthen families before crises arise. This philosophy drives every program, partnership and initiative, thus creating a continuum of care that supports children at every stage of life.

By addressing challenges early—whether through education, family support or access to resources—Upbring helps reduce the likelihood of abuse and neglect, creating lasting stability for families across Texas.

COMPREHENSIVE CARE

Upbring’s reach is both broad and deeply personal. Through both foster care and adoption services, the organization can provide safe, nurturing environments for children who have experienced abuse or neglect. Foster families are equipped with resources, training and ongoing support, ensuring both children and caregivers are set up for success. For youth who have experienced significant trauma, residential treatment centers offer a new path toward healing. These programs provide not only clinical therapy but also structure, life skills development and education—creating a strong foundation for long-term stability and independence.

THE POWER OF EDUCATION

Education is a cornerstone of Upbring’s mission. Through programs such as Head Start, Early Head Start and its Schools of Arts and Sciences, the organization invests in early childhood development because they recognize that education is one of the most powerful tools for breaking cycles of poverty and abuse. Serving children as young as six weeks old, these programs foster a lifelong love of learning while also supporting families with critical wrap around services. By building strong educational foundations early, Upbring helps open doors to brighter futures.

INNOVATION THAT DRIVES IMPACT

Beyond direct services, Upbring is leading the charge in innovation and research. Initiatives like the Texas Youth Permanency

Study are helping reshape how success is measured in foster care—highlighting the importance of stable, supportive relationships in a child’s life. This forward-thinking approach allows the organization to continually refine its programs, influence policy and ultimately improve outcomes for children statewide. Upbring is not only responding to today’s needs—it is actively designing better systems for tomorrow.

WARRIORS FOR GOOD

What sets Upbring apart is its people— known as “warriors.” These individuals are more than employees; they are advocates, mentors and changemakers dedicated to transforming lives. Guided by values of service, compassion and faith, Upbring’s team works tirelessly to ensure that every child feels seen, supported and valued. This culture of purpose fuels the nonprofit organization’s impact, creating meaningful connections that extend far beyond any single program or service.

A STATEWIDE IMPACT

Today, Upbring serves tens of thousands of children and families each year across dozens of locations throughout Texas. From community-based services to disaster relief efforts, the organization meets the families where they are—offering support during both everyday challenges and life’s most difficult moments. Its expansive reach is matched by a commitment to personalized care, ensuring that every child and family receives the attention and resources they need to succeed.

BUILDING A FUTURE THAT LASTS

At its heart, Upbring’s work is about more than programs—it is about possibility. It is about rewriting stories that might otherwise be defined by hardship and replacing them with narratives of hope, resilience and opportunity. As the organization looks to the future, its commitment remains unwavering. Honoring its long-standing legacy while embracing generational innovation, Upbring continues to build systems that uplift families and strengthen communities. The work is far from finished—but with each life touched, the impact grows. Because when children are given the care, stability and encouragement they need, the ripple effects extend far beyond a single life—they shape entire communities for generations to come.

HELP UPBRING WRITE A NEW STORY

Volunteers are vital to the work of breaking the cycle of child abuse. As you give of your time, your talents, your care, and your encouragement, hope rises in the hearts of the children you serve. New stories will develop in their minds and their memories. Stories of healing and hope replace the damages of abuse. Amy started equine assisted services to help her recover. Amy's wish was to learn to ride independent of a lead line with side walkers and under Doreen's instruction and care she achieved her wish! Amy continues to flourish today in the program held at Ride with Pride Horsemanship School Southlake.

BOBBYFEST 2026

AMY’S WISH WITH WINGS

WHERE: The event takes place at the Aria Amphitheater at The Marq, located at 285 Shady Oaks Drive in Southlake. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and open-air design, the venue provides the perfect setting for an evening of live entertainment and community connection. With ample space for gathering, dancing and relaxing, it allows guests to fully immerse themselves in the experience while enjoying the beauty of a North Texas spring evening.

WHEN: Bobbyfest 2026 will be held Saturday, May 2, from 3pm to 9pm. The rain-or-shine event ensures that the celebration—and its mission—continues regardless of the weather. As the afternoon transitions into evening, the festival atmosphere builds, creating a dynamic and engaging experience from start to finish.

WHY: The purpose behind Bobbyfest is what truly sets it apart. Every ticket purchased, every auction bid placed and every moment spent at the festival contributes to a greater mission—supporting the life-changing work of Amy’s Wish With Wings. Equine-assisted services have been shown to provide significant benefits for children with a wide range of needs. Through interactions with horses, participants can strengthen motor skills, improve balance and coordination, and develop emotional awareness and confidence. For many children, these sessions offer breakthroughs that traditional therapies alone may not achieve. Horses have a unique ability to respond to human emotion, creating a powerful and nonjudgmental connection that fosters trust and growth. Bobbyfest plays a vital role in ensuring these programs remain accessible, allowing more families to experience their impact.

HOW: Bobbyfest brings its mission to life by combining entertainment with meaningful engagement. Funds are raised through ticket sales, sponsorships, donations and the silent auction, all of which directly support Amy’s Wish With Wings and its ongoing programs. Community involvement is key—local businesses, volunteers and performers all contribute to the success of the event, creating a collaborative effort that extends far beyond a single day. Attending Bobbyfest is one of the simplest yet most impactful ways to get involved. Guests not only enjoy an afternoon and evening of music, food and fun, but also become part of a larger story—one that helps children discover their strength, build confidence and experience the joy of connection through equine therapy. As the music plays and the sun begins to set over Southlake, Bobbyfest serves as a reminder that when a community comes together with purpose, the results can be extraordinary. It’s a celebration of generosity, resilience and the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive— one song, one smile and one stride at a time.

MEANS EDIBLE

APRIL SHOWERS Flowers

THE ROSE TABLE

Did you know pansies are edible? These colorful winter blooms can beautifully top cupcakes — just rinse, dry, and decorate before serving, as they’re best enjoyed fresh (you can bake and freeze the cupcakes ahead, then frost and add owers day-of).

Fresh pansies

For more edible flower recipe ideas—visit therosetable.com and search Garden Party Crostini, Garden Party Salad, and Elderflower Sangria

.............................................................

(1) Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two muffins pans with cupcake liners and spray with nonstick spray.

.............................................................

(2) In large mixing bowl, whisk sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt.

.............................................................

(3) Add butter. Beat until it looks sandy.

.............................................................

(4) Combine milk and vanilla then add. Mix on low until incorporated. Don’t forget to scrape the bowl as you go!

.............................................................

(5) Crack eggs into a bowl. This way, you won’t accidentally get egg shells in your cake batter. With the mixer running on low, add eggs one at a time. Make sure each is incorporated before adding the next.

.............................................................

(6) Divide batter amongst 24 cupcake liners. Bake 20-22 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.

.............................................................

7) Remove cupcakes from oven and cool for five minutes before removing them from the pan. Cool completely.

.............................................................

(8) Dunk pansies into a bowl of cold water, swishing around to clean them. Remove and set on a paper towel to dry completely.

.............................................................

9) Frost cupcakes as desired with Fiori di Sicilia Frosting. Top with pansies.

WhereLocalsGo

PARIS BAGUETTE BAKERY CAFÉ

Just when you thought the Alliance area had everything, a sweet new addition has been added to the growing Alliance corridor. Paris Baguette brings a fresh take on the neighborhood bakery café. Known for perfectly blending Frenchinspired baking techniques with modern flavors, this globally loved concept has quickly become where locals go for everything from early morning breakfast to afternoon coffee or after-dinner dessert stops.

Conveniently located just west of Alliance Town Center (and with easy parking), Paris Baguette offers a cozy chic atmosphere that feels equal parts casual café and highend patisserie. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed by the aroma of freshly baked bread and buttery croissants, along with a beautifully curated display of cakes and treats that instantly tempt the senses. Open daily from 6am to 9pm, it’s a place that fits into any part of your day—from donuts on the way to school or an afternoon meet-up.

At the heart of the experience is the bakery itself. Paris Baguette specializes in handcrafted pastries and breads baked fresh each day, offering everything from classic croissants and Pain au Chocolat to more unique creations like sweet potato pastries and cream-filled breads. The variety is impressive, with options that are light and flaky or rich and decadent—you are ensured there’s something here for every appetite.

Beyond their pastries, the café also delivers a strong savory menu, making it just as appealing for a meal as it is for dessert. Guests can enjoy items like the Sourdough Turkey Melt or a Korean BBQ Wrap, all made with fresh ingredients and designed for both dine-in and carry-out convenience. My not-to-be-missed items from this side of the menu are the Chicken Salad Sandwich or the Egg Salad Sandwich. These, plus a couple mini desserts, make it feel like a nostalgic impromptu tea party.

Of course, no visit is complete without exploring their impressive cake selection. Paris Baguette is especially known for its beautifully crafted cakes and tarts—which are as visually stunning as they are delicious. From strawberry soft cream cakes to rich ganache slices and colorful layered creations, these desserts are perfect for any celebration—or simply treating yourself on an ordinary day. My not-to-be-missed item here is the Soufflé Cheesecake. You can enjoy the taste of NY style cheesecake (also an option), but without the heaviness. It’s light and airy, while remaining decadent. And, it’s even better when accompanied by their hazelnut coffee. Speaking of the beverages—the café serves a lineup of expertly brewed beverages,

including coffee made with Lavazza beans, espresso drinks and refreshing iced options, such as matcha and chai. Whether you’re warming up with a hot chocolate or cooling off with an iced tea, the beverage menu rounds out this experience perfectly.

What sets Paris Baguette apart is its effortless blend of convenience, plus quality and ambiance—all in one beautifully curated space. It’s not just a bakery—it’s a quiet escape, where you can linger with a book, connect and savor a petite indulgence at your own pace. As Alliance continues to grow, Paris Baguette adds a sweet addition by bringing a touch of Paris charm to North Fort Worth— where everyday moments feel just a bit more refined. Régalez-vous !
