Preparing You for Clinical Social Work Practice As a Master of Social Work (MSW) student, you’ll develop the comprehensive engagement, assessment, intervention and evaluation skills to support client empowerment. Our curriculum draws on cutting edge research while centering the client and their intersecting identities. You’ll study with a diverse group of professionals and world-class faculty to prepare you for clinical social work in a variety of settings such as mental health, schools, hospitals, child welfare and youth justice, aging services, addiction facilities, hospice, shelters, community-based organizations and more. The UW School of Social Work in Seattle has consistently ranked among the top 10 schools in the nation. In addition to building theoretical and practical skills in the classroom, you’ll gain the relevant, hands-on field education that employers expect. As an MSW student, you’ll participate in two practicum opportunities: • Generalist practicum: begins 4th quarter; 360 hours, 1–2 days per week (weekday, daytime hours) • Specialized practicum: begins 8th quarter; 680 hours, 2–3 days per week (weekday, daytime hours)

Flexibility for Working Professionals Earn a Master of Social Work part-time while you work, in 11 consecutive quarters (including summers): • E vening (in-person) track: Required weeknight classes from 6 to 9 p.m. In the first three quarters students take two classes per quarter. Practicum begins in the fourth quarter and students continue taking one to two classes each quarter in addition to field-based learning. • N EW Online track: Starting in the fall quarter of 2026 our parttime MSW program will now be available fully online. This new option is designed to take place over 11 quarters (3 years, including summers). Classes will typically be offered on weekday evenings, virtually/remote, synchronous for about three hours (e.g., 6:00 p.m.– 8:50 p.m.). On-site practicum participation will begin in the fourth quarter and will require a 1–3 day per week commitment to working in-person. Those who have demonstrated a commitment to working with a community in underserved regions of WA are encouraged to apply.
