With Commissioner David Tebbs excused, Commissioners Leland Pollock and Jerry Taylor formed the quorum for the April 28 Garfield County Commission meeting. They announced that the Garfield County Sheriff will be appointing one of the jail staff—already POSTcertified—to the position of School Resource Officer, as discussed at the last meeting. The clerk will begin advertising for a jail employee replacement. In his board report, Commissioner Taylor mentioned meeting with school district officials the previous week regarding the resource officer. Regarding the hospital renovations, Taylor said current cost projections are nearly $6M, almost triple the initially budgeted $2.3M. So far, the county has paid out about $1.9M. With the next set of payments, the county will be able to start drawing from
in Utah. But after a federal program offering mental health support ran out of money, the state did not continue it.

WAYNE CO. - The Wayne County Commission held its regular meeting on April 21, 2025. The session opened with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by approval of the minutes from the previous meeting. First up, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office requested to relocate the metal detector at the courthouse. The current location near the courtroom entrance causes bottlenecks and lacks privacy. The proposed plan is to move it to the main hallway to improve traffic flow and create more space. The commission agreed to a trial run, with Wayne County Commissioner Cook noting, “All you can do is try it. If it doesn’t work, we can move it back.” Installation is expected around May 2.
