TORREY - When Diena and Mike Riddle moved from Salt Lake City to Wayne County in 2015, they never anticipated that their newly established alpaca ranch would evolve into a thriving destination for visitors. Initially, the focus was on exploring the craft of working with alpaca fleece to create handmade products for family and friends. However, word quickly spread about the ranch, and it became a

GARFIELD CO. The Garfield County Commission met Tuesday, May 26, following the Memorial Day weekend. After approving the agenda and May 11 meeting minutes, commissioners moved into board reports. Commissioners David Tebbs and Jerry Taylor both reported on recent NRCS meetings in Cedar City, where water conservation districts discussed projects and concerns across southern Utah. Wayne County Fire District responds to a fire in Grover earlier this year. Stage 2 fire restrictions have been implemented in Wayne County as of May 19. WAYNE CO. - “Exceptional drought” is a term that we’ve heard a lot about lately. What that has meant to people trying to do controlled burns this year in Wayne County is that fires are not behaving as they have in previous

years. Light fuels never got enough snow on them to pack down to decompose against the ground. Heavy fuels, including barely surviving trees, are almost as dry as kiln dried lumber. Add wind to exceptional dryness, and we

have the worst early season fire conditions that I have seen in fifty-one years of fire experience. Numerous controlled burns this year quickly Fire Restrictions Cont'd on A6
