Vol. 27 Issue 2

Get affordable health insurance today. ACT NOW! Have you recently lost your employer health insurance or do you anticipate losing it in the near future. If so, you may be able to get affordable insurance right now through the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). Although the time to enroll in health insurance for most people is November 1 through December 15 each year, there are a few exceptions, called special enrollment periods, or SEPs . Most people who lose their employee sponsored health insurance will qualify for an SEP. However, individuals must enroll in a new health insurance plan within 60 days before or after they lose their employer insurance. Any licensed, certified health insurance agent, such as the ones pictured on page 3, can help you understand

all of the SEP details and enroll in a plan. The Affordable Care Act provides many benefits: Dependents may stay on their parents plan until age 26, (the law also states that “dependents” do not have to live with their parents, to be claimed as a dependent on tax returns, may be married and do not have to be enrolled in school). *Individuals will no longer be subject to exclusions for pre-

existing condition and cannot be denied coverage. Preventive care and medical screenings are covered innetwork at 100%, with no cost to you. *Annual dollar limits on essential benefits are eliminated. There are no lifetime dollar limits on essential benefits. *Policies may only be rescinded for fraud or intentional misrepresentation on the part of the applicant. Americans are required to

buy health insurance. For those who can’t afford it on their own, subsidies are available to people who meet eligibility criteria: *Premium subsidies will be provided to lower the amount of premium the individual or family must pay for their coverage on a month-to-month basis. *Cost- sharing assistance will limit out- of-pocket costs (i.e., deductibles, coinsurance or copayments) that would otherwise be charged at the point of service. In order to obtain health insurance subsidies an individual must be a citizen or national of the United States, or a lawfully present immigrant who files a tax return. If they are eligible for Medicaid or Medicare they generally will not need other insurance coverage.

If the Coronavirus pandemic results in a 20% unemployment rate, as some analysts expect, 25 to 43 million people could lose their health insurance . People who lost or expect to lose their job-based health insurance may be eligible for coverage under the AFFORDABLE CARE ACT (Obamacare) based on an existing SPECIAL ENROLLMENT PERIOD (SEP) provision.
