Born on the mountain, built from innovation, we’ve been outfitting communities with the confidence to experience more since 1965.

Brand History

Why is ChromaPop™ Rx better?

When you see more you can do more. Our proprietary lens technology enhances clarity and natural color to let you effortlessly see more detail. More detail gives you the advantage needed to perform confidently and have more fun.

How ChromaPop™ Works

ChromaPop™ improves our natural color recognition and gives us an experience that we cannot get on our own. It filters light waves to enhance definition, color and brightness for a crisper visual experience. It allows us to see color in a truer form.

Ride, run, ski, hike, fish or sail, the thrill is grounded in the visual experience. ChromaPop™ defines subtle features in the snow, so you can anticipate changes in conditions. It increases definition on rocky trails, so you can choose the best line. It reduces eye fatigue over long days on the water, so your eyes stay sharp longer.

ChromaPop™

Why ChromaPop™ Matters

ChromaPop™ literally enhances the visual experience by creating a more vibrant world with increased visual definition.

SMITH is one of the few players in the eyewear market with proprietary color enhancing lens technology. ChromaPop™ was developed and patented by SMITH and sets SMITH sunglasses and goggles apart from the competition.

Standard sunglass lenses simply darken your field of view, creating a dulling effect on your vision. In contrast, ChromaPop™ lenses filter specific light waves to maximize your view, offering more definition and brighter, crisper, truer colors.

Our eyes have trouble perceiving color where the blue and green and red and green light wavelengths crossover. This results in reduced definition and clarity in our vision.

ChromaPop™ lens technology works with each lens tint to filter these specific color crossovers, allowing us to see greater definition, have better depth perception, see truer colors and experience increased clarity.

Which ChromaPop™ lens is right for you?

Progressive Lens Technology

SMITH Rx Progressive lenses are designed for peak visual performance outdoors, in dynamic and fast-moving environments. SMITH Progressive lenses have an expanded distance zone and superb dynamic vision.

Advanced digital technology ensures the widest possible visual fields, minimizes peripheral distortions, and virtually eliminates swim effect. The lens can be optimized for any frame, including very wide or wrap styles, without compromising vision quality.

Benefits

Extra-wide distance visual field

Precise and comfortable focus in any direction of gaze

Near elimination of peripheral blur

Smooth transition between visual fields

Superior visual quality for viewing digital devices

Higher image stability for greatly reduced swim effect

Adapts to the customer’s chosen frame

Measurements

Please provide MPD and Fitting Height. The design uses pre-set values for Wrap Tilt, Back Vertex Distance and Pantoscopic Angle.

State Of The Art Digital Surfacing Technology

Our digital progressive lenses are created in our own optical laboratory using the latest in lens optimization technology.

Together, these technologies deliver a highperformance customized lens that is perfect for our customers’ active lifestyles.

Exceptionally sharp, dynamic vision

Precise vision at every distance and in any gaze direction

Digital ray-tracing technology ensures that the customer perceives the correct prescribed power not only when looking through the center of the lens but also when looking away or to the side.

Maximum clear viewing area

The lens calculation also considers the eyes’ own focusing ability (accommodation). Even when this is reduced, as in presbyopic patients, the intelligent use of the remaining power enables wider zones of optical clarity and reduced peripheral blur.

The lens design optimizes the range within which an object can be moved closer to or farther away from the eye without a noticeable change in the focus of the image. This ensures customers experience clear and sharp vision even in dynamic environments where objects are constantly changing position.

Dispensing Guide

Step 1

Confirm measurements and Rx

The lenses should have ink markings and the frame should be adjusted. If the markings are missing, retrace them using the appropriate centration cutout chart.

The fitting cross should be at the pupil center when the eyeglasses are on the wearer.

If necessary, adjust the frame to raise or lower the fit. Recheck frame adjustments: pantoscopic tilt, wrap angle, back vertex distance.

Step 2

Natural, stable vision even on the move

SMITH Rx progressive lenses include groundbreaking image-steadying technology which greatly reduces the image distortions that cause “swim effect”. Vision feels comfortable and natural, for complete confidence while on the move.

Explain how to use a progressive lens

Inform the patient about the adaptation period. Explain that with today’s new technology the adaptation period is shorter than with previous generations.

Provide information on how to wear and care for the eyeglasses.

Educate and explain how to use the lenses: the extent of the visual fields, the transition between fields, and side-to-side head movement for peripheral viewing.

Fitting Configuration

Digital free-form technology enables us to adjust the fitting of each lens according to the customer’s prescription and chosen frame.

Frame Fit

Our technology adjusts the lens design structure to fit the specific parameters of the frame the customer ordered.

When selecting frames, please note that the B measurement of Chromapop blanks is 55mm.

Step 3

Lens demonstration

1. Demonstrate the distance vision by having the patient look at an object at least 6 m away.

2. Demonstrate the intermediate vision by having the patient read the progressive reading card or view a computer screen at arm’s length, or about 60 cm.

3. Demonstrate the near vision by having the patient read the progressive reading card at about 40 cm away.

The fitting cross is aligned perfectly with the wearer’s pupil center

The fitting cross does not match the pupil center

It is recommended to check the location of the pupil cross when delivering a new pair of eyeglasses to your patient.

Lens Fit

We optimize the aesthetic appearance of the lens by using the optimal base curves and thinning prism, resulting in the thinnest possible lenses, even with a high prescription.

4. Demonstrate the decrease in power at the periphery by having the patient hold their head still while moving the progressive reading card from side-to-side.

Troubleshooting

Tilting head too far up to read

Possible causes Remedies

The add is too weak: Increase the add power and redo the lenses.

The PD is wrong: Very the PD measurement.

Redo the lenses if necessary.

The lens design changed: Redo the lenses to match the patient’s previous MFH.

The corridor is too long: Redo the lenses with a shorter corridor.

Tilting head to see distance

Possible causes Remedies

Undercorrected hyperope: Repeat the refraction. Redo the lenses if necessary. Overcorrected myope: Repeat the refraction. Redo the lenses if necessary.

Pupils are not centered in the DRP: Verify the pupil is positioned in the center of DRP. Redo the lenses if necessary.

The seg height is wrong: Verify the seg height measurement. Redo the lenses if necessary.

Looking to the side to focus better

Possible causes Remedies

The lenses are mounted incorrectly: Verify the pupil is at the DRP. Swap out the lenses if necessary

The PD is wrong: Verify the PD measurement. Redo the lenses if necessary.

Tilting head forward to see distance

Possible causes Remedies

The seg height is wrong: Verify the seg height measurement and make sure the pupil is at the DRP. Redo the lenses if necessary. The seg height is too high: Adjust the frame. Redo the lenses if necessary.

Tilting head forward to read

Possible causes Remedies

The add is too strong: Repeat the refraction. Redo the lenses if necessary.

Near vision is blurry
