The Mips® safety system is designed to provide added safety for helmets in many accidents. For certain impacts, the Mips® safety system can reduce harmful forces that might otherwise be transferred to the user’s head.

Most impacts are angled, which can cause rotational motion to the head.. The rotational motion can cause brain injuries. The Low Friction Layer helps reduce the rotational motion to the head in certain angled impacts.

Why Mips® Air Node?

When a helmet is impacted at an angle, it can cause the head to rotate suddenly and violently. This is a common source of concussions and brain injury. The Mips® Air Node system is redesigned to provide added safety inside the helmet to reduce rotational movement to the head in certain angled impacts, thereby lowering the risk of such injuries. Using a more lightweight and comfortable design, the Air Node Integrates the liner of the helmet with Mips® technology to create a lighter, more breathable fit while still providing the same impact protection. The simplified design is removable, washable and replaceable, meaning you’ll always have the perfect fit for your ride.

Mips® Air Node Technology

The Mips® Air Node system is a low-friction layer laminated onto the base of the comfort padding. It’s connected to the energy-absorbing liner with nodes of hook-and-loop fabric touch fasteners. At angled impacts, the nodes are designed to release locally, allowing the padding to slide and reduce rotational motion to the head.
