Greetings Psychology and Human Development Alumni! We hope this finds you safe and well! The new academic year is well underway and things are mostly back to "normal" here. We had some anticipated departures towards the end of SP22 but also some unanticipated ones so once again the department had to navigate staffing issues. The only thing constant is change! With some creative flexibility we are maintaining a strong program and the ability to serve our students. Here's what's new:

We have been joined by three new faculty members: Dr. Nayantara Kurpad, Dr. Amie Severino '11, and Dr. Yu Sun Chung. Meet them throughout the newsletter (pages 1 & 6)!

Dr. Kurpad earned her PhD in applied psychology where she specialized in applied cognitive psychology at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Dr. Kurpad's research lies in the intersection of cognitive psychology and education. With roots in cognitive theories and its applications to practical situations, she focuses on investigating the why’s and how’s of student learning, with a special interest in metacognition. In FA22, Dr. Kurpad is teaching Introduction to Psychology and Cognitive Psychology.

Dr. Richard Platt retired after 29 years of dedicated service to the College. He plans to tackle a long "honey-do" list in his retirement, including work to prepare several rental properties for sale. Dr. Fernandez relocated to Virginia to be closer to family and joined the faculty at Christopher Newport University. We held a joint farewell gathering for Rich and Gina on April 28. Former department member Dr. Terell Lasane made a guest appearance. View the photos here! Dr. Enright relocated to California to join her husband on the west coast. She is continuing on as a member of the department this year by serving as an adjunct professor to remotely mentor four St. Mary's Project students.

We have welcomed back Dr. Cjersti Jensen as an adjunct professor! A developmental psychologist, Dr. Jensen previously taught as a visiting assistant professor in AY19-20 & AY 20-21. In AY 22-23, Dr. Jensen will teach Lifespan Development remotely from her home in Colorado. We miss you and hope you are off doing amazing and rewarding things. Please let us know! Connect with us, especially Angie, via LinkedIn (and join our LinkedIn alumni group). If you are on Facebook, like the Psychology Alumni page and send Angie info to post (including job and/or internship opportunities) or post it directly. If you plan a visit to campus during the academic year or summer, let us know! We absolutely love to hear from our alumni and include them in our events. And, if you stop by during the week, a faculty and/or staff member would happily join you for a coffee/tea or lunch. Take great care and keep in touch! ~ Jennifer Tickle, Department Co-Chair
