D662- Personalized Learning for Inclusive Classrooms Task 1 APPLYING MULTI-TIERED SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT A. Complete the "Muzzy Lane" activity in the Web Links section by doing the following: 1. Explain how interventions and essential components of MTSS were applied in Tier 1 to prevent academic difficulties before they became more significant challenges. Tier 1 interventions are used as a framework in the general education classroom to ensure all students are receiving the instruction needed to succeed in mastering content areas. At the beginning of the Muzzy Lane activity, as a 5th grade teacher at GMES, in my classroom of 22 students, I was already providing tier 1 instruction using Explicit Instruction to teach comprehension/phonological decoding. Tier 1 instruction includes a direct and structured approach, one that will meet the needs of all students in the classroom. Due to my students specifically needing reading support, this small group intervention was focused on decoding strategies during guided reading practice. Based of f the weekly progress monitoring of each student, it became apparent that 4 out of 5 of my students were not progressing with Tier 1 intervention, and as a result, those 4 were transitioned into Tier 2 intervention, with one student returning to Tier 1 whole group. 2.
