Our relationship with water in Florida is dynamic, we survive on it, yet it can sometimes be life-threatening. Understanding how to design infrastructure that works with hydrology systems was the main focus of this project: A green roof system that channels a natural flow of both water and people through its design.

The design at Naya Talaab in Raipur, India cleans, educates and reconnects the people back to their natural landscape. Based on precedent, environmental psychology and history, this project examines every layer to create a sensitive, yet empowering design in an industrializing country with a rich culture.

In construction, the goal was to manipulate the existing contours for functional drainage and comfortable walkability.

Several grading techniques such as cut, fill and bioswales were used to create a landscape plan for a fictional amenity center. The site existed on moderately steep terrain, with sidewalks traversing the hilly area.

STUDENT ORGANIZATION

UnderStory is a SoLA lead publication preserving student studio work. The first publication was a zine spreading awareness on parking day, which I contributed to with a collage illustration and a physical model I worked on with Jack Taks. My other contributions were watercolor paintings to a bi-weekly zine series titled the “Everything in Between Zine”.
