CHAPTER I

W h o S h e i s

Shavel is a stout black girl who has loved netball since a child. She grew up watching her aunt and sisters playing it and decided that’s the sport she wanted to play. In primary school, she didn’t have a lot of work load so being the smartest student and an athlete wasn’t hard. When she moved on to high school she thought it would be the same-that it would be manageable, she was wrong. Her work load was now as heavy as 2 50lb dumbbells, she began slacking off academically and putting more effort into netball because at least that wasn't hard. Later she realised her grades haven't just slipped, they fell, so now her focus is on her academics and not on her athletics, she started performing poorly. This caused her a lot of stress and resulted in her developing anxiety.

“how would i manage being a teacher and netball player if I can't be a proper student athlete?”. She has big dreams and her parents have even bigger expectations for her future.

“What will I do?” She always thinks to herself, she tries to overcome her anxiety daily and always fails miserably. She believes that she can make her dreams come through while also fulfill her parents expectations.
